Lifting weights when sore?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search and didn't see anything.

I know you should wait about 48 hrs before working the same muscle groups again.. but what if your still sore 48 hrs later? is it "ok" to workout with weights again? or does that mean the muscle is still repairing and needs more healing time? Since its workout time I'll wait for a response and just do cardio today. But I often wonder this as sometimes I really push it and get sore for like 3-4 days. Not TERRIBLY sore but I can feel it esp if I lift a weight or stretch. I did a great total body two days ago so I'm kinda sore all over still. thanks! Jessica
 
As long as the DOMS isn't really intense and as long as I know I've waited the 48 hours then I've always gone ahead and worked the sore body part if it was on the schedule again. Never had any problems...perhaps I've winced a few times :p but that's it...:7
 
K I just read somewhere if you workout the muscle while it is still repairing you won't get the same results... so I wanted to be sure that was enough time and the soreness didn't mean anything. thanks for responding! :)
