I ate alot of salad yesterday and today I gained 2lbs. but I feel bloated, do you think it could have been the lettuce?
 
I personally would not blame the lettuce, especially if you are talking about iceberg which is basically water.
What else did you put on your salads? Any gassy type of veggie? That could cause bloating temporarily.

I've always wondered about this...Does gassy bloating cause you to weigh more?
 
The only thing on the salads were carrots, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and chicken on one salad. I also ate a protein bar I bought at wal-mart that contained 12gm of sugar alcohol and 20gm of protein I wondered if this could be the culprit it is called think thin.
 
I will bet you that protein bar contained on of those nasty sugars that cause gassiness! Look out for that 'sugar alcohol" deal. Most times those "sugars" wreak havoc on our digestive systems...I have a sorry story about a bout with a bag of sugar free gummy bearsx( Lets just say I spent the night on the "throne".:7 The veggies you mentioned should not have caused this, although some are sensitive to peppers--they make me burp.:p
 
Large amounts of vegetables will cause you to bloat, but gas doesn't weigh anything. I'd be curious how much sodium was in the bar, it may have caused you to retain water (from the vegetables).
 
Hey Tneah - same thing happened to me. DH stopped at a candy store and knowing I'm a fan of gummy candies got me a small bag. Over the course of a few hours I munched on the whole bag and sure enough was miserable the whole night. Turns out (he never thought to tell me) they were sugar free --- UGH! Those sugar alcohols are NASTY!!!! Beware them. I'd think the culprit was indeed the bar and not the lettuce!

I honestly don't believe that gas makes you weigh more. The culprit in salad that puts on temporary poundage is the dressing. Dressing is usually loaded with salt, which causes your body to retain water. Just limit your dressing somewhat, and you'll be fine. But keep eating those salads! There is nothing better for your body in the long run. :D

Tneah, sugar-free anything will always wreak havoc. The culprits are called sorbitol and manitol, and they should be avoided at all costs. Whatever you do, don't even go near that ice cream called "no sugar added". It means that only the natural milk sugars are real, and the rest is pure sorbitol. Guaranteed to ruin your evening, to put it nicely! ;)

Sugar alcohols cause digestive disturbances (as can too-processed protein, like protein concentrates and isolates).
