least favourite workout - abs!

>We all have a six pack it just may be under a layer of fat.

My six pack is covered under the Michelen Tire Man marshmallow suit. But I look forward to doing ab work. I get on the floor and it turns more into nap time than ab time and I look so forward to the floor after a Cathe workout. :p

My eight year old step daughter is also a gymnast. With ripped little abs and muscles all over her body. (She's very muscular for eight.) But I don't envy the ab work and condtioning work these young gymnasts do. Adri be proud of your abs and biceps I know how hard you work to have them and the work isn't easy. Good luck with your gymnastics.

I can think about Cathe's abs but I'm not gonna get them.

Jen, that sounds like me!! LOL!! After a good workout, the only thing I want to do on the floor is nap

Hey Adri,

Come back to us in 15-20 years and let's see your abs THEN! I'll bet that six pack won't be so visible!:p

Seriously though...you should be very proud of your hard work and accomplishments. I NEVER could have been that dedicated at such a young age! HECK! I could never be that dedicated NOW! LOL :7

I work out about 60 mins a day/6 days a week and that is PLENTY! ;)

Thanks everyone! I guess I don't think about being proud that with my abs, even though I know I should. And trust me, in 15-20 years, your right you won't see a 6 pack no more.........you'll see a 12 PACK!!! LOL:p . Well maybe it might happen. I mean that 45 minutes of ab work alone at the gym should pay off big time!

Good Luck w/ your working out,

~Adri;-)

>I hate ab work too, but for me the worst thing about it is
>the way my neck feels. I don't mind ab work so much that
>doesn't involve straining the neck, but unfortunately,
>crunches seem to be inevitable and they make my neck hurt BAD.
>x(

Have you ever tried using a towel, holding on to the ends and letting your head rest on it (just be sure that when you crunch, you aren't pulling on your head with your hands, just letting your head still rest in the towel and pulling up through your shoulders)?

No, Kathryn, I haven't tried that. Do you think it might help? I know they have these contraptions at the gym that work well (ab roller?), but I don't have room for another piece of equipment in my apartment. I'm going to try the towel thing.

I blew off the most of the abs section of ME today - I'm right there with ya!

I would love, though, to find a standing abs routine. I think the dread factor wouldn't be as bad. I remember back in The Firm days, there was an exercise where you hold the bar across your shoulders and do side/oblique crunches. Or those knee smashes in KPC where Cathe says, "Come on, work your core!" Those are the only types of ab exercises I *like*. ;-) I wish there was a non-traditional workout where I could at least get SOME kind a benefit! I have a feeling that if my core was stronger, I wouldn't mind the exercises so much.

>No, Kathryn, I haven't tried that. Do you think it might
>help?

I think it could. At least it's worth a shot, especially since it doesn't require buying any more equipment!

And also try holding your tongue on the roof of your mouth behind your teeth when doing crunches. I have a couple of workouts led by Physical Therapists, and they both recommend doing this. It supposedly helps support the neck muscles.

Kelly Coffey-Meyers does all standing ab work (she calls it "waist" work) in her "Get Ready, Step, Go." And Tony Horton alternates between standing and lying ab work in the "Power Half Hour" ab workout. "Core Synergistics" is a P90X core/ab workout that doesn't have one crunch in it and combines standing and floor core work.
