Slimming or building might also depend on your body type. Some mesomorphs build very easily. If that's your case, then go lighter on the weights, and follow the workout as-is.
I don't have problems with 'bulking,' so I put longer breaks between sets (actually, I'd recommend putting a longer bread before all the deadlift sets, no matter if you build easily or not, because it's safer for the lower back, IMO) and go heavier than Cathe and the crew.
