Lasik Surgery

I was reading back through old posts but it's been awhile since they were posted so I thought I'd add some questions and get anyone's old (or new) experiences.

I wear contacts but have a pretty strong prescription and I'm pretty far-sighted and also have astigmatism. My eye dr told me yesterday that all surgery would do would be to give me the same sight I have with my contacts. I was under the impression it would make it better. Is that how it works? When I get to the age where my focusing problems are age-related, I'm afraid I'll be stuck in glasses because contacts won't help. Has anyone had this surgery who was legally blind? I just needs thoughts, experiences, and opinions. I don't really know anything about it.

Also, if you read my "thyroid" and "hormone" posts, gyn told me hormoes were low because of BCP and thyroid scan was normal. Guess I'm done unless I should see someone else because of a 1 point low T3??? Thanks!

I was legally blind, nearsighted, couldn't see the computer screen clearly....with Lasik, I am now 20/15.......that being said, I"m also 46 and need reading glasses, but can still see far away...its a miracle...I also have astigmatism and it still worked. Its been 7 years.........

I plan to get lasik this year myself and I'm 44. I'm nearsighted (legally blind in one eye and pretty bad in the other). I can't go underwater while wearing contacts because my eyes get so irritated. I have to keep a spare pair of glasses in my car in case I lose a contact while rubbing my eye, otherwise I wouldn't be able to drive home. I can't read the clock across the bed or the scale at my feet. I can't exercise without my contacts because I wouldn't be able to see what Cathe's doing and glasses bounce and slide off my sweaty nose. Yes, I'll need to wear reading glasses soon, but I'll need them anyway with my current contact lens prescription. I haven't done it sooner due to the high cost.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I was just hoping to get my prescription down some. I would be ok with having to use glasses for reading as I age, but I'd hate to have to use glasses AND contacts at the same time. Does Lasik work for far-sightedness?
