Lamaze Class

Hey everyone.

Well, I am done with Lamaze. The class was very intersting. I actually enjoyed it alot. We had a great instructor and a few people in the class who made us laugh every time they opened thier mouths....they were just naturals comedians I guess. lol

I cried twice though. I'm such a mush! lol I cried during one of the films and I cried during the hospital tour when we got to the nursery and they showed us a brandy-new (only hours old) baby up close through the window...6 pound baby boy...absolutely precious!!!

What's pretty cool is that every time a baby is born in that hospital they play a lullaby (don't know which one) over the PA system. It can be heard through the ENTIRE hospital. It's played softly and one was apparently played during one of the movies we watched (I didn't notice it though). This little boy we saw was probably the one born when it was played. It's a nice thing that they do, huh?

The rooms in L&D and Maternity/Postpartom are fabulous. They are very homey looking with wall paper, curtains and the like. Not your normal sterile and cold looking hospital room. They are all equipped with rocking chairs too. Plus they just opened up 3 private rooms that are available on a first come first serve basis for a little extra money. DH and I are DEFINATELY going to request that when I go in. The thing about them (besides the privacy factor) is that the hubbys can spend the night with the moms and babies if you have a private room where in the other rooms, they can not...for obvious reasons ofcourse.

All in all, I was very pleased with the experience and I am glad that we took the class...wether or not I actually utilize the breathing, etc that we learned....

Hope everyone has a good day!

Wendy, I am so excited for you! Just a little while longer, and you will be mush-ball for your son! You will be the happiest woman alive!
I hope that you guys are able to get one of those rooms, that will be wonderful for you both. When I had DS, there was no place for Dan to sleep, so he spent the night on the chair just to be close to us. They really have come a long way with maternity wards. I am so happy that your sta will be more cozy and comfy!

Oh, and don't worry about the breathing! You will do fabulous! You are fit and you are prepared, and your husband will be so proud of you!

Here's to a quick and painless delivery (we can hope, right?)

ahhhh, i remember lamaze classes. i took them but never got a chance to use the lessons learned because i had a c-section. yet it was still fun to be in those classes and esp. the tour of the hospital where you get to see all the cute little newborns...i can't wait for my next turn.!
Wendy good luck, we are all praying for a quick, painless labor and can't wait to hear about the first time you get to hold your precious son.:)

Hi,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. My almost 3 yrs old son said "oh, sh*t" yesterday at a communion party for his cousin so that was a nice ending to the party. LOL

I have a question, why do people go to lamaze class?? I mean, 99% of the time when it comes to give birth, no one does what they learned in lamaze class. My midwife tells me stories and a lot of doctors think lamaze is kind of a waste of time. I never took a class. I didn't see the point of taking it. Please, please do not take this question as an offense or putting you down. Faaaaaaaaaaaarrrr from it. I was just wondering. Did you guys do what you learned from the class when you were giving birth or you just did what you did?

Lisa :D

Hi Lisa.

I obviously can't speak as to wether or not the techniques they teach are helpful BUT I found the rest of the class VERY interesting. The class I took went far beyond just breathing and comfortable positions during labor. She explained so much that goes on during pregnancy as well as what to expect when you go into labor and during delivery, etc. Plus we got a tour of l & d and maternity/postpartom as part of the class. I found all of this very very helpful and worth the time and money regardless of how I breathe during labor. :)

I'm glad you had a good class. I know they talked about your body and show videos but didn't know they show you around the postpartums and delivery. I had my kids at Yale and we had private rooms. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it! DH stayed with me overnight for 2 nights. I'd get a private room as well. I think it's worth the extra money. At Yale, we didn't have to pay as all the rooms were private. Here in NY, we have to share. If I have another baby, it'll be here in NY. I was thinking of home birth as I do not trust the hospitals around here.

I'm so excited for you. You're getting very close, Wendy!! Good luck and you'll be crying your eyes out when he's born and for a few weeks after. I know I cried the whole week and half after my first was born. Either I was so happy or it's those hormones. :D

Thanks Lisa. :+

Lisa,
I don't like the hospitals around here, either. Really, I don't like hospitals in general. I really don't feel like they cared about me as the patient at either hospital I delivered in. I felt like when I needed something, I was an annoyance unless it was an epidural I was wanting. I didn't want an epidural at all, but all I heard was, "are you sure? just wait after a few more contractions and you will change your mind" etc. So for #3, I decided to do a birthing center birth, and I wish I had every baby this way! Even though drugs weren't an option here, I still had the best labor and delivary ever! I felt very comfortable, very supported, and most importantly very safe. My midwife was wonderful! I wish I had known her my whole life! Instead of giving me the routine episiotomy, when Logan was descending she massages me with oils to help me stretch so I didn't tear. She also encouraged me to do whatever made me feel comfortable, wether it was walk around, rock, listen to music, or even scream. She did everything that the doctors are supposed to do, but she was also my caring friend and she only left my side when I wanted to be alone. I would recommend this kind of delivery to everyone!!! I healed faster than and got a home visit after 5 days to make sure all was well.

As far as Lamaze goes, I thought it was great for giving us an idea as to what to expect, but never did it after the first. After just one kid, you do kinda become a pro! :p

With my first kid, I lived in CT and I LOVED the hospital there. They didn't treat me bad or anything. They actually treated me as a royalty. I couldn't believe it! They waited on me hand and foot. I was SHOCKED. The day I leave the hospital to go home, they give you your own cake and they bake it themselves! It was DELICIOUS! They do not believe in drugs or epidural. They try to get you to change your mind about drugs and they even said epidural is not safe either. What I did not like was they made me "hold" the baby in until the doc came in and got ready. By the time it was time to push, I didn't really have any more fluid left so I had a 4th degree tear even though the doc massaged me as well. What didn't help was my son was HUGE. He has a big head just like his father. My second, I had him at Yale as well and it was GREAT. Nothing changed in that hospital. Even the nurses were so pleasant. They check on you very often. A little too often IMO. Also, the cafeteria there serves GREAT food. I didn't eat the hospital food. Their food is so fresh. And they had a lot of HEALTHY alternatives. I miss that place! Maybe I can still go to Yale if I get pregnant again. It's only an hour and a half away. Hee hee. :7

Wow! I am so jealous! That is hospital heaven! The midwest isn't that progressive, yet I'm afraid. At least not IN. I am sure that you will find something around you that will be wonderful, too! How many do you have, and how many more would you like? 3 is my limit. I am not sure that I could give my best to more than that.

Ta Ta,
Missy

You're in IN?? Get outta here! My DH is from Indy. Greenwood to be exact. I've been to Indy a few times since I met my DH. We were supposed to go to IN this month but couldn't go. So we might go in Aug. or Sept.

I have 2 kids right now. Oldest one is going to be 3 yrs old in 3 weeks and the youngest just turned one in March. I have 2 boys. I'd like one or two more. That's IT! :D I have a feeling I'll only have one more hopefully have a girl and probably will get my tubes tied. Although I don't know if I want a girl since boys are so much fun. What stinks is they don't have too many nice looking clothes for boys. It's mostly girls. I'm not crazy about taking BC so we'll see. How about you? What's your story? :)

Lisa

Greenwood! :7 That is not 20 min from me! We live on the northwest side of Indy, just off the border of Zionsville. Ask him if he's heard of it.

I have 3 balls of energy. My oldest, a DD (d for dramatic) is 8 in 3 weeks (24th) and DS (d for daredevil) will be 6 in 10 days. Youngest son (right now d is for dirty! He is always into something!) just turned one. We are so done. I love kids, especially mine, but pregnancy is not good for me! I hate who I am. I am mean and nasty, always asleep and forgetful to a gross fault, so we decided no more. Everyone suffers when I am pg. So DH got a vasactomy. We are SO loving it!
I have to admit, boys are so fun! And, I hate to say it, but they are so much easier too! Don't get me wrong, DD is wonderful, but man! Emotions, drama, she is mad at abc today because of xyz (and you better belive tomorow it will be efg for tuv!) Where as DS will get mad, tell them to leave him alone and be quiet and then be over it. Girls are so fun to shop with and we have lots of slumber parties here! And their clothes ARE much cuter! I am happy we have 3. I didn't want anymore after 2, but you never regret the kids you have! :7

Catch you later!

Missy
