Labor & Delivery with Second Child

Is it a myth that with the delivery of your second child labor is cut in half? I've heard that from a few women I know. If that is the case then my next labor & delivery should be around 2 1/4 hours. How in the world would my inlaws, who live 2 hours away, get to my house in enough time to pick up my son and me still get to the hospital in time? DH and I are trying to establish a backup plan. Maybe my obgyn will induce me like she did with DS.

Are you talking about TOTAL labor time, transition, or ...? If you had no contractions until 2 1/4 hours before your baby was born, are you lucky or what!!

Sorry for the confusion. For me I am including from the moment the Pitocin was given for my induction at 8 a.m. until I delivered at 1:30 p.m. From the moment I was 10 c.m and began pushing until the time DS was born took about 45 minutes. Hopefully you all can shed some light on what part, or if the whole process, is normally shortened.

The second labor and delivery is usually shorter, but every woman is unique. My first was 15 hours... only an hour of strong, REALLY uncomfortable contractions. The second was almost 9 hours... but more uncomfortable for a longer period of time.

I must be an exception. My first was 5 hours long and my second was 7 hours long. My third was c-section because he was a month early and breech (we knew that ahead of time so I didn't have to go through all the contractions etc. If fact they tried to stop them.)

Interesting question. With my son I was admitted at noon, dialated 3cm and I had him at 9:35. My labor was fairly easy too. So I am anxious as to what this time will be like. My mom said with all 3 of us her L&D got shorter. As a matter of fact, with my youngest brother (her last child) she barely made it to the hospital.
