KK's January Check-In 2008

Good Evening!:)

Let's see. Today was IMAX2 -- all except interval 9 -- just time factor -- and then tonight was cardio only from IMAX3. It's a great cardio only workout, as it's only 30 minutes. Perfect for the evening workout.

Jeanette, I gave my Turbo Jams to my daughter and so I don't have them anymore, but I remember loving them so much and how much fun they were. The Black Walnut right now isn't doing as much to my metabolism as it is detoxing -- however, I'm finding that my weight is at least stable -- which is an improvement.

Janie, I got this Black Walnut mixture from a place here called the Rabbit Hole -- an organic restaurant -- they sprout their grains and such, as well. The flier on it has been sitting here for days, but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it. Let me see if I can tell y ou some things about it from memory. Black Walnut is supposed to help with Infections, Impetigo, Metabolism, weight gain, hypothyroid, parasites, moles, warts, athlete's foot, tumors and cysts. I originally got it because of the metabolism and cysts -- I'm just fighting my weight so much -- and it put me into a detox. When I went to my chiro/nutritionalist, he found that I was detoxing parasites. So... What it does is help to create a far "too healthy environment" so that the unwanteds have ahard time surviving.

If you're interested, I can email you more privately and the place where you could go to find out more. Actually it's the Black Walnut Hulls, is what it is -- it's high in potassium and iodine.

Anyway, I had the blog to write today and other things and so my writing suffered. Am planning on spending the day tomorrow doing nothing but. Georgie is doing well. He's getting bigger and bigger and is nice and healthy (knock on wood).

Hi Rhea! Hope you are doing well.

Have a super rest of the evening and a sparkling day tomorrow.:7

Good morning,
Today was Cardio & Weights, always fun and I did the whole thing. Went heavier on the back work and felt it good.

Janie, the bread sounds good. I have a recipe that uses 1/2 wheat and 1/2 white flour too. Love making bread but haven't done it in quite a while. I'm thinking STS will be great, but I really want to get the eating down before spending that kind of money. I didn't see the results with P90X this time and it's a great system too. Just don't want to spend the $$$ on STS and then still not having the eating right. I'm purt near 50 this year and find the pudge is around my waist and sticking.

Karen, glad the weight has stabilized. Sorry that you have to do 2 workouts though. That would not be fun for me to have to do. When do we quit worrying about weight? Bet Georgie is a cutie. Love beefy cats.

Rhea, hope you are okay.

Jeanette

KK,
Yes, do send me some more info. I'm looking forward to it. My sister once had a concoction of Black Walnut Hulls. She also said something about parasites along those lines.

Jeanette,
Cardio and weights is my all time favorite. Good job, it is not an easy one.

Rhea,
Stay happy and healthy.

Last night it snowed about 5". I will be able to use my snowshoes today. Yeah!

I've got to run, they are reporting rain in the forcast.

See yas,

Janie

Good morning, err afternoon!

I'm actually quite back....yippeeee!! I worked out yesterday to Cardio Party #1 (thanks Jeanette, you actaully gave me the idea do do that one) Had no problems with the head and was able to put my all into it most of the time. Had to take a few breaks and catch the ole breath. So my cardio capacity has suffered a bit. But I'm back to the workouts. Finally. Today I will do an older Kathy Smith step tape. It is usually too easy for me, but I bet it will get me going pretty good right now.

I buckled and bought the STS. I need to get the eating down too. I think the menopausal stuff might be kicking in a bit as my pudge is sticking around the middle and having the cold has actually delayed my cycle way beyond normal.

Boy, I can tell when I have a food that gives me a bit of a problem now. I tried to have chicken yesterday and today I feel like a bloated whale. I really bummed about the chicken though. I love chicken, but I guess it doesn't like me.

Karen - that black walnut hull sounds interesting. Helps detox huh? I might have to try it too.

Well, must run to court. Hope everyone has a great workout today. I'm looking forward to mine.

Good Evening!:)

Am posting a little earlier tonight so as to hopefully go to bed earlier -- we'll see...

It was Supersets for me today. Have noticed that Cathe's new series -- the 4 day split -- has helped me a bit. That last biceps exercise usually gets me -- and I often have to drop down my weight -- but this time I did both sides. So I guess I'm making progress and this is good, I think. Tonight, I plan some cardio from CTX as these are usually short enough for me to do in the evening. Still don't have the Cathe DVD that I ordered -- I'd sent a check -- I guess I'd better check up on that.

Jeanette -- I love Cardio & Weights -- did it last week. Yeah, I remember getting that pudge as I went into my 50's as well -- unfortunately for me, I'm beyond that age. There's another thing I might recommend if you think it's hormones -- and that's www.whitewing.com -- they have products that are plant based only -- I used their products when I was going through menopause -- I refused to go the route of artifical hormones because of the trauma that they put the horses through -- and just general dislike of drugs -- so their products are all plant-based, herbal formulas and really helped me. You can go and read about their women's section. I don't need it too much anymore, but boy, when I was going through menopause, it was wonderful!

Janie -- I'll email you on the Cathe site -- the thing I have is copyrighted, so I don't want to post it here -- but yes, it is a good detox for parasites and cysts, etc. That's so cool about the snow.

Rhea, it's so good to see you on doing well again. Yea. Please do keep it up. That's great that you bought STS -- the price is keeping me from it right now. I would really have to save up for it and at my age, I'm not sure how much good it will do.x(

Oops. Gotta run to class. I'm late. Have a super evening and day tomorrow.:7

Good morning,
Today was a steady state cardio so I did Christi Taylors CIA 9801 hi-lo. Really fun and I have all the steps down pretty good now. Tonite is a bike spin with the Garage Boys.

Janie, did you get to go snowshoeing yesterday? Hope it was nice out. SSing can be a pretty good cardio workout.

Rhea, glad you are back to the workouts. Know you will get that cardio capacity back in no time at all. So you buckled on the STS? I'm thinking that way, just holding off. Does the chicken itself bloat you? I retain so much water with the seasonings that DH loves to put on the chicken. I have to eat it plain and then no problems with water retention.

Karen, great job on Supersets. I know about that last bicep segment in it. It's a killer! Great job on finishing it! I know it's tough. Thanks for the link. I'll have to check it out. I really don't have any other symptoms from menopause yet, except more pudge in stomach and slower metabolism. Wonder if those products help with that?

Got to run,

Jeanette

Snow shoeing was a blast. The weather awesome! Mostly sunny (could see all the shiny crystals in the snow) and then it snowed more. I was out there non-stop for an hour working my buns off. It was a great workout. Today the snow is melting but planing on doing it again anyway.

Jeanette,
Don't you just love it when the step work is smoothly done?

Was there another person on here besides the four us? Am I missing someone?

Take care,

Janie

Good afternoon...

Janie - you are probably thinking of Becky. She has not been on since she started that third year of med school. She probably hasn't come up for air since she started.

Well, lets see, yesterday I did that old Kathy Smith workout. It was pretty funny since it was such easy steps and really simple. But it was good for a change of pace and I really didn't mind the fact that I didn't have to think much. Today I ended up doing a firm dvd, Jiggle Free Arms and then I tacked on 1/2 of the Turbo Jam Ab Jam. My shoulder is a little sore, so I had better get it all stretched out tonight and ice it up more.

Not sure what I'll be doing tomorrow. I have a physical therapy appointment in the morning, that is if the roads are okay. I'm not going to travel if everything is still icy.

Well, back to work. Have a great rest of the day everyone!

Good Evening!:)

Today was cardio (BM2 1st part only) and then tonight was CTX Intervals. Didn't get the stretch in due to time constraints. Also production on writing was down -- something I need to fix in myself. Deep breath...

Jeanette, I like the steady state cardios -- am hoping to get in that simplier Cathe soon. How was the bike spin? Those products should help with the extra flab around the middle, but let me tell you a little something that I learned from my 1)chiro and 2) a book called Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. When you go through menopause, the adrenals pick up the activity of the ovaries as far as manufacturing the hormones, etc. and the flab around the middle is part and parcel of part of this -- some of that fatty tissue (or something like this -- don't quote me) helps to maintain that hormonal balance once the ovaries have ceased doing their part. It's something like that -- again, I'm not a doctor, I just read alot. I'm past menopause and so I do have a little flab around the middle, which I'd rather not have for looks, but I understand why it's there -- my waist line is about 1-1 1/2 inches bigger than it was when I was in my 30's and 40's, but hey, it's still in line with my figure -- so I don't have that straight figure. I just keep it in line (even though that's a little tough to do.) It's why it's not advisable for older women to drink too much coffee because it stresses the adrenals, which is again what is picking up the hormone load once one is through menopause. At least this is my understanding of it.

Whew! A long post again.

Janie, I didn't know you went snowshoeing. What fun! I used to live in Vermont and I used to like going cross-country skiing -- I wasn't in great shape then -- wonder if I'd do better nowadays. How is the bread doing?

Rhea, I love those old firms. Don't have any Kathy Smith workout tapes -- I guess I just get into these grooves and tend to stay there. Haven't decided yet for myself on the new series -- it looks a little beyond me, actually. But you never know. Cathe's new series, the 4DS has really helped to improve my overall strength, so you never know.

Hope work is great!

Well, have a really super evening! And a great day tomorrow. :7

Good morning,
Today was Cathe's Pyramid Lower Body (up premix). Legs are feeling it a bit, especially after last night's bike spin session.

Karen, hmmmm, interesting about the caffeine and menopause. I really haven't started menopause yet so wonder if this pudge will get even worse! Yikes! My periods are still pretty regular (finally started yesterday).

Rhea, hope the roads are okay for travel today. Wonder if we'll get snow. I'm tired of it for sure. The sun came out for a little while yesterday and it almost felt warm. Just been such a cold stretch here it seems. Hope the shoulder is better and you can get the PT in. Glad you are enjoying the workouts again.

Janie, I'm envious that you got out for the snowshoeing. Ahhh, maybe someday when I retire I can spend more time doing those fun activities. Right now, in winter I have a hard time doing much else after work.

Got to run,

Jeanette

Mornin,

Today is cardio for me. Like you Karen, I'll be doing two, one in the morning and one before dinner. Only because I want to, and feel like I can. This doesn't happen very often.

I bought snowshoes a couple of years ago and made a few 3 1/2 hour trips to Hurricane Ridge with a couple of friends. They were enablers. They were fit and in their 70's. They've since slowed down and it is now too expensive to travel that far with the price of gas these days by yourself. I took advantage of the snowfall in my area. It doesn't usually stay very long here. The snow stays maybe one day or so, sometimes not at all. It might happen a couple of times a year, and that's it. So I was lucky and grateful to be able to do that.

In April I'll be 57 so in my minds eye I see myself going for at least 20 more years. Then maybe I'll slow down.

Sounds like everyone is doing well with exercising and cardio. Take care.

Janie

Good Evening!:)

Let's see -- it was SJP for me today -- almost did the entire thing -- except for the last blast -- got a call in the middle of the workout from a friend and so I was anxious to finish the workout -- and then tonight was CTX All Step. Weight is doing okay right now, but I, too, need to watch my eating. Instead of losing weight with the extra workout, it seems like I know I can eat more and so...x(

Didn't get too much written today -- about 3-4 pages -- I don't know for certain cause I forgot to check where I started at. But at least it was something.

Jeanette, I love those Pyramids. Gotta admit that SJP kicked butt on me today. Yes, the thing about coffee and the adrenals I find fascinating, as well. Something I hadn't known.

Janie, I'm round about your age -- I never tell my age, but I can say that my DH is about 54. I'm hoping that I don't ever have to slow down. I know that in other countries where people live very long lives, they are active (usually very active) right up until they die of natural causes.

Hi Rhea! Hope work isn't too horribly busy.

Again, it's late and so I'm rushing off to bed. Have a super day tomorrow!

Good morning,
Today was The Gauntlet. Great workout, but wish I had more time in the mornings as I had to leave off a little at the end. I have a bike ride in the valley planned for Sunday, but looks like rain down there so will probably have to bag it. Instead may do the Garage Boys spin workout tomorrow.

Karen, I love SJP, music, everything. Don't think you will ever have to slow down. You have so much vitality!!! Hope the course is going well.

Janie, good job on the cardio! My cardio capacity is getting better, especially since doing the Garage Boys workouts. The Gauntlet was great today. I hope to be going and going for a long time too.

Hi Rhea, hope the shoulder is loosening up and feeling better. Think we are getting more weather this weekend. Boohoo.

Jeanette

Good morning!

Well, I took yesterday off since I had done three days in a row. I was supposed to had PT yesterday, but it was snowing too much to go over the hill. Oh well. Today will be back to some cardio. I think it will probably be a Christi Taylor, just not sure which one yet.

Can't believe it is already February. Wow, superbowl this weekend. Tracy over at my other forum said that there is a "puppy superbowl" on Animal Planet this weekend if you want to watch it instead of football. Something about cats in a half-time show. I might have to check it out, sounds cute.

Well, I'm going to try and get this motion done before noon. So I'll be sitting at the computer writing with you Karen and Janie! But my stuff is very boring.....I can fall asleep while writing it! hahaha!

Have a great weekend and even better workouts.
