KK's January 2010 Thread

Hope everyone had a Happy New Year's celebration. DH and I stayed home, as usual. I sat on the couch and finished the binding on my DIL's quilt.

Yesterday's workout was a Tracy Long circuit. Was near the end of it and my BIL came over to visit so I had to quit on it. Today's workout was "Step Moves" from Shock Cardio. Loved it! I repeated the challenge at the end (all three combos). It's really fun and very doable intensity wise. No dread on this one. Tomorrow I'm going to tackle Cardio Core Circuit, which I hear is no walk in the park. Hope I survive! I'm also hoping to get my bike out and go for a ride. It's been a while, probably over a month.

I've attached a picture of the quilt I just finished.

Hi to Rhea, Karen and Janie.

Hi again,
Uh, oh. I came back and everyone leaves :(. Today was Travel Fit from Shock Cardio. I liked it a lot. Cathe also posted an STS Strength and Cardio rotation, so I'll be starting that one on Tuesday. Bought some fabric today and went to visit my parents. Nice, quiet day. Didn't get on my bike like I'd hoped, but hoping for tomorrow.

Night, night.

Me again. Today's workout was Athletic Step. After that I tacked on the abs from Cardio & Weights. HRM said I burned 298 calories. Just got back from a bike ride. It was cold, temp said 40 degrees. DH and I are going to take the dogs out to run a bit. Fog rolling in. Sigh. Tomorrow iwll be a rest day. Hope to hear from you all.

Jeanette

Good Morning!

Sorry I've been gone from the forums -- I've been following Cathe a little bit on Facebook. And I am so struggling to get everything in order. It's taking me much longer than I ever would have anticipated to get back to battery.

Yesterday's workout was an old Firm #4 -- I really like the 20 questions about fitness at the end of it.

Netta, I'm so glad to see you back here -- we don't always check in every day I've noticed -- and I've been bad about it only cause my life is super busy at the moment. But I'm going to try to do this daily again. I have so missed you. When I see a bike rider, I always think of you and have been wondering how you're doing.

I had to get off new chapters and a synopsis that I've been working on all through the holidays -- my publisher didn't renew my last contract and so I am scrambling to find a new publisher -- I haven't said anything because I have been working so hard on proposals and getting them just right -- like I like them -- and getting them polished and sent off. Unfortunately for me, I am in that jobless category right now -- however, I'm starting a couple of new business's on my own, as well as shopping the new proposal around. What a business, but then publishing is struggling also -- I know that Borders has closed over 500 stores in 2009 and in 2007 I knew that they had closed about 500 stores. And then Barnes & Noble just closed the last B. Dalton -- you can't even go in a mall anymore and find a bookstore. So sad.

Anyway, am working harder than ever now trying to get back into work than ever before when I had a ton of work. The workouts help me release some of the tension I must admit.

Am planning on one of the Hiit today to work off more of that tension.

I love your posts, Jeanette -- and am so glad you're back.

Have a super day!:D

One more thing. : )

Jeanette, that's a beautiful quilt. So talented. Thanks for sharing it with us.:D

Hi all,
Today was a rest day for me. I'm doing a check-in with my sister who lives in Atascadero. Monday's are weigh in and measuring, which I was down slightly from our start last week. I've decided I was a slacker last year (maybe because I turned 50?) but will get more consistent with the workouts, and more importantly, my eating. I really didn't gain much weight, but was definitely not as lean as I wanted. In fact, not lean at all, who am I fooling :p. Tomorrow I will start day 1 with an STS strength and cardio rotation.

Karen, I missed you too. I'm sure you will get a new publisher soon. You always work so hard and see things thru to the end, so I'm confident you will be all right. I wasn't aware of the book store closures, so sad. Sure hope the economy turns around this year. The state of California is a mess. Not sure how much longer my DH will be working at the prison as projects to be funded are going to be very limited. Which HIIT workout did you do today? I haven't done one yet and am kind of scared . But really, how bad could it be? The worst thing that could happen would be that I'd have to modify or hit pause or something. Oh yes, thanks for the quilt compliment. It went fast to make and I was satisfied with the result. DIL likes it a lot too.

After my workout yesterday, I did get a bike ride in and DH and I got to go to the desert. Had some fun, hit some golf balls too. Am planning on playing some golf (not here in town) on Friday. It's a Furlough day so I'm off.

Hi to everyone,

Jeanette, So glad to see you on the forum! We've been traveling to Vegas and enjoying it's many adventures. And I found out I had GERD and boy, did it act up while eating buffets. What did I except, right? Anyhoo I see that I need to catch up.

Can't go wrong with Tracy, good job. Enjoy the new Shock Cardio's and your bike ride.

Your quilt is so beautiful. My DS, Dan, wants me to make him one. We'll be picking out patterns and material, one of these days before Joey and I leave Vegas.

I also haven't posted everyday too, will do it now if everyone else is doing it. YEAH! So glad to have you back.;)

I watched Athletic Step. I want to do it! Have to wait just a bit though until I get the GERD thing under control. Just a couple of days I think. You are doing really good on your workouts.

KK, Such a busy lady. I wouldn't know if I could keep up with that pace of yours. Wonder Woman!

Good job on The Firm, I really like them as well.

What kind of busniness are you doing?

Enjoy the Shock Cardio's, they are awesome.

Jeanette, Ah, finely you did a bike ride. Good for you. Is the weather still OK for golf? Congratulations on the weight loss even if it was slight. I'll take that any day.:D

I really wanted to start the STS and Shock Cardio, but just haven't yet. But, I will cheer you on, and when I get home, will start it. Will be leaving Vegas around the 20th. So will catch up as soon as I can. Sounds like a great rotation.

To make a long story short, we've had family problems (our children), but is OK now, My little Molly passed, (still tearing up) and to get away from it all we are now in Vegas with our doctor Dan and having fun.

Janie

Hello all!

I actually fogot to get on the forums yesterday. One of those days at work. I think I talked nonstop all afternoon (clients)
I was very good and finally got Meso 1 finished. Whoo hoo.My legs are a bit fried today. I don't know how anyone can do the "extra" at the end. By then I'm looking ahead at each exercise to see if we are finished yet.

Jeanette -- Beautiful quilt. Isn't it fun to get them all done? I'll have to post the picture of the baby safari animal quilt I made for my co-worker's baby. How did you like Athletic Step? I'm tackling that one today.

Janie - glad to see that you are enjoying Vegas.

KK - a new publisher huh? Wow, that is a lot of work. I hope that you can find a new one soon.

Well, back to work for me.

Hi all,
Today's workout was Disk 1 of STS, chest, shoulders and biceps. A goodie. Tomorrow will be one of the HIIT's. I haven't done any yet and I'm a little apprehensive. Oh well, shouldn't kill me. I did get a walk in today during my break too.

Janie, nice to see you on here. Hope you are having a good time in Vegas. I've never been there before. Thanks about the quilt. This one was pretty easy and went very fast. My DH has GERD and takes omeprazole. Has to watch eating and drinking too close to bedtime. Sleeping a bit elevated helps him too. Know you are missing your little Molly. Our newest little one rolled in something really smelly today so I had to give her a bath in the garage sink. She smells very nice now. Why do they do that? Hope you enjoy Athletic Step. I did it for the 2nd time on Sunday and didn't even have to rewind it once. I wouldn't say it's her best cueing (no one beats Christi Taylor, IMO), but I memorized it fairly quickly. Good workout. Step Moves is even more fun, probably less intense too. Our weather here is too cold for golf, plus there is still snow on the golf course. However, DH and I are going over to a neighboring town on Friday to play with a couple of friends. It should be around 50 degrees so not too bad. I'm hoping the scale moves downward next Monday (weigh day). TTOM finally started for me today so bloating should be over.

Rhea, can't wait to see a picture of your safari quilt. I sure love seeing pics of other ones. My next one is a kaleidoscope quilt. Just need to press the fabric and get it lined up. I've never done one like it before so I'm a bit tentative. Great job on getting Meso 1 done. I did pretty much a full 6 month rotation of STS the first time, then did another rotation, only doing Mesos 1 and 2 recently. This time, I'm not sure if I'm doing a 3 month or 6 month one, but probably won't do Meso 3. To me, it's kind of boring. I got the most results during Meso 2, plus it's not so frantic. My co-worker Laurie Tice and I were talking about you and your new house at Bailey Creek. That is sooooo cool, having a house there. I'd love to play there sometime, but right now, I'm such a hacker. I did get a Players Club membership at D'Andrea in Reno and am looking forward to the course clearing and weather warming up so I can play there with a girlfriend who plays there all the time. I played there once last year and really liked that course.

Hi Karen, hope you come up to breathe soon.

Sheesh, I'm chatty tonite.

Night, night.

Good Evening!

I'm going off to bed too. Just wanted to check in before I go.

Gee, it sure is good to see you all here. I've been following Cathe a bit on Facebook. That adds about another hour on line. Whew!

Jeanette, so far I've done 40/20 and 30/30 -- I love them both. You won't have any problem with them I know. You'll do fine. I love those quilts you and Rhea are doing. My daughter gave me a hand knitted scarf this year at Christmas. It was beautiful. Makes me want to get right in there and do it, too. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I'll just keep working as best I can and as hard as I can and hope that it will all come out in the end. Yes, isn't California a mess? Goodness.

Janie, so nice to see you back here. Thanks for your compliments. Don't know if you saw my post a few days ago, but you'd mentioned that you thought Cathe's abs weren't as defined as usual and after doing that old FIRM, I'd listened to the 20 questions about fitness and noticed that they mentioned that working the obliques with weights thickens them. I'm wondering if that might be the cause. I could be wrong. Just a thought.

Rhea, you asound busy as ever. I"ll look forward to seeing your quilt, too. Are you enjoying the STS Cardio. Must admit I'm loving it.

Today was a strength workout -- still doing the short ones -- so it was going heavy on the Sculpting workout.

Night, night. Have a great day tomorrow.

Good evening,
Today's workout was Shock Cardio's 30-30 HIIT. It was a good, short workout, and not as tough as I'd imagined, but it was tough. I modified to take out the impact. After that I added on the abs from CTX Kickbox. Total calories burned 198. Didn't get a walk in today at work as I had other things going.

Karen, so you spend time on Facebook with Cathe? I haven't checked anything with her on there. I'm trying to keep my computer time down some. Thanks for the vote of confidence for me with HIIT. I did fine, but was glad I didn't have to do 40-20 right off the bat. Next week, maybe.

Hi to Janie and Rhea.

Good Evening!

Hi Jeanette!

Yeah, when I got back from Florida and after not really doing as much promoting as I usually do, I really needed to get onto Facebook and do some more growing for my books and so I have a page. It does take about an hour a day, which I don't like, but when Matt is here (he stays with us and is a computer whiz), he often will do the Facebook entries for me. Trouble with me is that I get so interested in other people's sites that I spend more time with it than I should.

I did think 40/20 was a more difficult workout -- I was sore after doing that -- and I like and do anaerobic workouts every week... It's the more difficult workout, I think -- cause those 20 seconds go by so fast...

Today was CTX, cardio only from Power Circuit -- I still love those CTX workouts. Yeah, I follow Cathe a bit on Facebook, but I really spend way too much time being interested in other people's sites and what they're saying and doing...

Sometimes I walk the dogs at night and then get in an extra workout -- because it's really runningthe dogs, not walking them. They like to run -- I swear if we lived in Alaska, they'd be perfect dog sled dogs.

Hi Janie & Rhea! Hope you are both doing well.

I did get my synopsis and chapters to my agent -- so, now it's off to read, read, read and do a bit of research and submit another proposal -- and then another, etc. : )

Have a really super day tomorrow everyone.:D

Mom

I've read all your posts, and you all seem to be doing great!

Yesterday speed walked for 45 min. and when I got back to the house I did the Travel Workout. I enjoyed that so much and it was an intense workout for me. Thank God for Cathe, is all I have to say. Woo Hoo!

As you know, My mother has Alzheimer and has been under it's control for 15 years now. All of us has thought for the last 3 years that she would pass anytime now. A couple of days ago her body isn't allowing her to eat or drink anymore. My sister Teresa, is her caregiver, and called me last night. She wanted to know everyone's opinion whether or not Mom should have a feeding tube put in. They also found a document from 1994 that she signed not wanting extra measures taken to prolong her life. I told Teresa, that I think we should abide by her wishes. Someone in the family has a hard time with Mom's wishes, and wants her to have a feeding tube.

Today, I'll be calling to see what they all decided and if Mom will have a tube put in. If she does she will survive a little longer, and I will stay here a longer. If they all decide to let her go naturally, then I will take a plane back to Seattle connect to Winatche Airport and rent a car to get to Tonaskit, where my Mom is. All her children will be around her with love and respect and prayers, so she won't be alone when she passes.

I know this is overwhelming and it seems to me that "enough already" with my problems. I should probably not spill so much to you all. But, if it's alright with you, I'd like to continue to vent. It does help me. You can just ignore it. Believe me I've never had so many downs in such a short period of time in my life. I know I won't be able to post everyday while this is happening, but I still need the support you all give to continue to exercise. That, right now is so important to me. Especially when all this is happening.

Reading about all your new exercises, doing them, rotations, routines...that is where it's at right now. My body has a little inconvenience (GERD) and I normally don't let that interfere with exercising. Mentally, well, it's hard, but along with venting and continuing to exercise will be key for me.

I'm going to speed walk before I call my family so, I better do it.

Talked with family and they will not be using the feeding tube. Will fly out tomorrow for this sad reunion.

See yas,

Janie

Good Afternoon!

Oh, Janie, my heart goes out to you. Of course my opinion is that if your mother took the time to put something like that in writing, that's her wish. But how hard that would be to make that decision. What a sad time. You might try to take lots of walks and look at lots of things. Sometimes walking helps -- just to get some space.

Today was 1/2 of Cardio Core -- I think that's the name of it -- I'll do the other half day after tomorrow. My goodness! What a workout. Goodness! Loved it, but it really kicked my butt. Wow!

Hi Rhea and Jeanette! Got on a little early just to log in cause the rest of my day is probably going to be super busy. Have a great day, everyone!:D

Janie - ((((HUGS)))) to go with you to your mom. I'm glad everyone decided to abide by her wishes. Hard times, we're here for you.

I did Disc #13 yesterday. I have to say that I think I like the Hypertrophy part. Tough, but easy workouts if you know what I mean. 60 seconds between seems so long. But now I know why the workouts are so darn lengthy, its the rest times we have to take.

I think I'm going to try an HIIT today. Hmm.

Hi,
Janie, big (((hugs))) from me too. Such a tough time. We will be thinking of you. I lost a friend a few months ago to Alzheimers, only 54 years old, so sad. Her DH is still so very devestated. Anyway, you can vent, share, commiserate, whatever, anytime. Don't ever, ever worry about that. I did Travel Fit the other day and liked it too. Yep, Cathe is a genius. I like that there is something for everyone in this series.

Today's workout was Disk 2 of STS. Worked triceps and back good. Tomorrow will be some kind of steady state workout before leaving to play some golf.

Karen, I haven't tried that Cardio Core Circuit yet, but I hear it is tough! I'll tackle it sometime.

Rhea, which HIIT did you do? I've only done 30-30. 40-20 is supposed to be harder, maybe I'll try that one next week. I think my favorite Meso of STS is #2 also. Less equipment and scrambling.

Must run,

I ended up doing 30-30. So glad that I did, not much rest between, but its a short workout. I'm not particularly fond of the air jacks, tuck jumps and the thrusts. I had to modify by the time I got to the thrusts. In fact, my HR gave out and froze during the routing!! I guess it did not like the workout. LOL 40/20 will be next HIIT for me to try, just not sure. Today will be Disc #14, which is legs, along with real fast aerobic housecleaning!

Good Afternoon!

Checking in a little early today also.

Janie, I agree with Rhea and Jeanette. Vent, get angry, cry -- we are here for you.

For both Jeanette & Rhea: I hadn't thought about rotating the STS cardio with the STS strength, every other day or so. That's a good idea. Of course, I don't have the STS strength and may not get it because of the cost -- but I have other strength workouts I could sub.

Today was again FIRM #4 -- total body workout -- only cause I needed the total body workout and the time on that one is only 42 minutes. Tomorrow, I plan on doing the rest of the Cardio Core. Tough. Tough.

Still working hard to get working -- so to speak. : ) Yes, interestingly, like other industries in this country, the book business is hurting. Borders closing over 1000 stores in the last 3-4 years hurts, there are almost no more Waldenbooks left in the country -- then there's Barnes & Noble closing the last B. Dalton as well as Book Star and Books Galore (I think that was the name of the chain). And the distributors also have had major cuts and changes. Guess we'll eventually get the hang of it, I only hope it's sooner than later.

But like the old saying goes: When one door closes, another opens. Maybe we'll see the return of the independent booksellers, who were almost wiped out with the Barnes & Noble and Borders stores -- they simply couldn't compete. Or maybe more new/used stores -- or maybe even the internet. We'll see...

Have a super day everyone.

Hi all,
This morning's workout was STS Step Moves, then tacked on the abs from CTX Power Circuit. After that was shower and then got ready to play golf. Had a good time with my friend, although it sprinkled some, but was not miserable. I didn't play too poorly for not playing in a while. Looking forward to nicer weather coming someday.

Rhea, I don't like air jacks or tuck jumps, especially tuck jumps. I take most of the impact out. It was doable. Probably on to 40-20 on Sunday. Either that or Core Cardio Circuit. What HRM do you have? I had to go to a Timex as my Polar would freeze when I got with 5' of the TV. In fact, it would freeze if I rode under electric powerlines on my bike. Too sensitive.

Karen, I certainly hope times change for the better. We've driven so many jobs overseas, and driven businesses from California. I don't even want to talk about what our Governor wants to do to our wages.

Must go, tomorrow will be Disk #3 of STS, probably Legs. Ouch!

Night, ladies.
