Kitty Question

Hello smart ladies..

I won't carry on with the lack of sleep ive gotten over the last few nights worrying about my darling little angel, so Ill just cut to the chase..

I took my kitty into the doctor the other day to get some blood work. Tonight I noticed a little (well, large I guess comparing) soft bump on his leg where they put the needle... is this to be expected?

Its too late to call and ask them tonight.. and now that I think about it I was a little apalled that the doctor took the blood and touched him with his bare hands! They didnt look clean and his nails were visibly dirty!

I should have said something but I didnt, and now its going to keep me up all night (again) wondering if its ok for this lump to be here seeings I dont know what to make of it!

Please tell me what you think and if I should be worrying or not :)

Hi there,

I'm a vet tech and it sounds like your kitty has a hematoma (a bruise, essentially) at the blood draw sight. These are common and usually go away on their own.

However, it is a little weird that she still has it if the blood draw was the other day. Does she have an actual illness (or suspected illness)? How is she behaving? If she is behaving nomrally (no vomiting/diarrhea, is acting energetic, is eating, is using the litterbox as usual, etc.), I would recommend calling the vet in the morning to have them take a look tomorrow. If she is actually acting sick in any way, I recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight.

If it really will keep you up all night, it is never wrong to take her in immediately for a look. They may look at it and it may be nothing major, but then you would know.

Give kitty a snuggle for me!
