Kickboxing & Strength training in the same day..good idea or not?

Hey My Cathe fan Gang!!!
I have a question for you guys. Tomorrow I'm taking a kickboxing class in the morning at the gym. I also have planned shoulders, calves, shins, and abs too. (gatta work shins for gymnastics) I heard somewhere here that if you strength train then do something like kickboxing it stops the muscles you worked from growing. Is that true? One more thing. Would it be better to strength train after the class, or another part of the day?

Thanks for all your help guys!! I don't know what I'd do without you all;-)

Hi Adri. I have never heard that your muscles stop growing? That sounds weird to me. I think just see how you feel. If you are super fatigued from kickbox then it wouldn't be a good idea to tackle the weights in a half ooomph manner, if you know what I mean. If you feel okay, then go for it. I took kickbox Monday morning and before that I did some pretty heavy lifting, a little for legs, too. I was fine.

Thanks for your help Boybert! i should have worded it better. I meant that is you kickbox then lift or vice versa it stops the muscle you worked from growing that day. I heard it just fatiques hte muscle. Hey I guess I'm totally wrong or something. I got help from someone else too. I think this is just a false statementx(

Thanks!

I think you might be thinking of people who want to build muscle who reduce cardio to a minimum because too much cardio will work against muscle growth (the energy/calories that would go into growing the muscle is/are burned off by the cardio, so it is counterproductive to muscle growth).

We had a similar question recently about doing kickboxing and upper body weights on the same day or on consecutive days. I think it's best to not do intense boxing/kb the day before or after upper body work, but doing it on the same day would be better, or sandwiching a lower-body focused weight or cardio routine in on the day between the two.

Ok that sounds good too Kathryn. Thanks for your help:)

Take Care!
