kickbox frequency?

Hi,

Just wondering how many times per week I could be doing kickboxing... step seems to be bothering me more and more these days, sadly. I know kickboxing doesn't quite get the heartrate up there, but, well, this 46 year old body needs some trade offs I guess. I'm looking to do cardio three times a week, so wondering if 2 or 3 times of kickboxing is too much.

thanks,

-Beth

Beth,

I am no expert and you have to listen to your body but as long as you give it a day's break in between each cardio session, I don't see why you couldn't do k/b 3 days per week! If you start feeling like you are over-doing it then throw in a different kind of cardio as needed to break it up a bit.

HTH!

I think kickboxing is fine 3x per week. It seems my achilles tendon acts up when I do step so I haven't done it in a while (that plus I broke my toe a couple weeks ago! :-( ). Just watch your form and enjoy!!

There are times when I kickbox 5 times/week, and that's all that I do.

The reason they tell you not to do it everyday is that it's "hard on your joints"...but that's only if you're not using the correct form.
With the right form, kickbox should be very low impact.

So if it feels good to you, kick away!

I firmly believe in cross=training, and in mixing things up from day to day. 2-4 kickboxing sessions a week should be fine, as long as you leave a day in between each one. You still have to be 'your own personal trainer," and if the number you choose to do ends up being too much for you, don't be afraid to back off.

(I love KB, and it's sometimes hard not to do it every day, but I follow my own advice and limit it).

I probably do KB about 2-3X a week. And as far as getting your heartrate up.... KPC does the job for me. And Tracey's cardio sweatfest... that workout blows me away.

According to the manual I used when I got my KB certification, no more than 3 non-consecutive days per week. Like Kathryn, I find it hard to keep to that schedule, but I know it's what is best for me!
