Kettlebells

Hi Educated Crowd!

In the July 2003 issue of Oxygen, there was an article about Kettlebells. In the current issue (November 2003), there is a full page advertisement on the back cover about Kettlebells with videos and a book. The article and the ad tout how much better than dumbbells these Kettlebells are.

Now, I can see that maybe the concept of lifting a weight that is slightly off the natural center of gravity/balance would be a good idea for a change to your routine and adding variety. But, I would like to know if anyone has any experience with these Kettlebells and what are the true advantages.

Also, if you look at the ad in the November issue, you will see they say you only need 20 minutes per day with the Kettlebells, which is clearly hogwash, but I am still curious about these things!

Looks interesting, but it also looks pricey. It seems like you use one kettlebell for every exercise, and in order to increase intensity, you'd buy a heavier kettlebell.

I've seen something that MIGHT sub for a kettlebell. At power-systems.com (I think!), they sell what looks like a medicine ball on a stick, that you can swing like a golf club and do other dynamic strength movements with.
