!!!!!!!!!!~~~KETTLEBELLERS WED~~~!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all! Just getting us started. :)

I am not working out today. I am absolutely exhausted. We have had an incredibly busy start to the week so I am laying low today. :) My dogs also woke us up around 2:30 - they were going crazy about something, not really sure what it was and when we investigated we didn't find anything but two proud girls, wagging their tails. I am very glad to have two huge dogs with persistent and deep barks!

Have a great day all, I will be back later. :)

Rhonda, forgive me for asking again (in case I already did) but what do you teach? :)

Melissa

Melissa: enjoy your rest day! what kind of dogs do you have? My kids want a golden retriever, which I love, but I can't have animals, my allergies are too bad!!:( I love that you homeschool. I looked into in way back when, before my ds, now 13, started K, but his nursery teacher really felt he needed to be in a more social atmosphere. She was right, but I still would have loved to have done it. We lived in a great house, but the schools were not good. everyone in our community moved as soon as thier kids hit 3 or 4 years old. so we followed suit. I didn't think I could find a home/community I liked as much as where we lived, but I was happily wrong. We moved into our present community and we love it. there are boys my boys ages all up and down the street (unusual in an older community) I open the doors in the am, and the kids are out all day with their friends (happily mostly in our home/front yard) I'm pretty sure Rhonda teaches 10th grade.

Rhonda: enjoy your last trip before school starts!!

Jane: hope your rest day was good. What's on tap for today?

Marcy: Glad you are still enjoying Slim series. Yea to upping your weights:)

Waves to everyone else!!
Have a great Wednesday!! We are doing some back to school shopping today!!

Deanie, we have a golden retriever and a Doberman/pit bull mix. I think that your oldest may be like my oldest. We tried home schooling one year for her and that was it! She couldn't stand it. Academically, by the end of the year she was way ahead of the other students in her grade but she was so incredibly miserable. We did field trips, outings with other groups and girls her age but it wasn't enough. She is a social creature and she thrives in the traditional school environment and constant interaction with other children. I think that my youngest may end up in the traditional school setting eventually, but we just joined a home schooling coop that has over 150 families and there are tons of classes for kids his age so he's okay for now. I just feel like 5 is sooooo young to be sending them off! DD was ready and is great at drill and memory, but older DS hates school because he is very logically minded and wants to know why things work, and how, and all they really teach in school (where we are) is drill and memorization. Youngest DS is very mechanical; he takes things apart and puts them back together to figure out how they work, he has to use his hands to figure things out - just like my husband! - and the system that we are a part of isn't set up for a kid with his curiosity and energy level. There is no way he can sit still and look at worksheets all day. He would really suffer and probably be labeled a problem child. For right now, every single one of my kids is where they need to be. :) I love that your neighborhood is like that! I feel VERY blessed that ours is as well. :) It is hard to get kids to want to play outside, though. I am pretty sure that everyone thinks that I'm the difficult mom because when their boys want to play with my kids I make them play outside if it's nice when all they really just want to play video games. :p

Well, back to school. :)

Good Morning Everyone!

Yesterday was one HOT run. I think it was 105 degrees but the humidity was under 50% so that made it bearable. I ran for 40 minutes.

Here is today's workout:

Get in as many rounds as you can in 30 minutes.
100 Jump Rope
20 Swings
15 Mountain Climbers
10 Kettlebell Thrusters
5 Burpees or Squat Thrusts

I don't have kids but I enjoyed reading about the homeschooling/school issues. It's great that you guys are doing what is best for your kids. I often think that in the beginning homeschooling would have been better for me because I had learning issues when I was younger. I should have started a year later (probably would have if I was born now). My twin sister and I were premature (by 1960's standards) and born in late August. My mom wanted us held back in 1st grade but the school wouldn't do it. I finally caught up but it killed my confidence and I just thought I was dumb so I didn't study as hard as I could have. I turned out fine though ;) so I guess it worked out in the end. Good job ladies!!

Melissa ~ enjoy your rest day.

Deanie ~ Great workout this morning!! Sometimes the short ones are the hardest.

Rhonda ~ Enjoy your trip.

Gayle ~ We miss you!!

Waving hello to Tammy and Marcy!!

Melissa!! You and I must be kindred spirits!! I am the same way. The kids know if they come to our home there is no "screen" time during playtime. We've actually had some kids leave and go home because they couldn't play on the game cube!!! Love your dogs! ... wish I didn't have allergies! Your home school situation with all the other families sounds great!

Jane: Great workout planned today. I copied it for future reference, even though it has thrusters in it;)!! My DS13 was reading over my shoulder and wanted to know where you live that its 105 and why you were running; I told him you were running because you can!!!LOL My ds9 is a december birthday, and he is older than most kids in the class and I agree, being older as opposed to younger in your class gives you a BIG advantage and confidence.

Gayle: Miss you hope your having fun!

Just got back from shopping, went to Target and saw an amazingly cool denim skirt (long, hippie/bippie style) in the jr.'s dept. and tried on the size 5, it was too big:eek::eek: and they didn't have a 3, so I grabbed the size 1 thinking it would never work, but it did!!!! I even have room in the waist!! What crazy sizing they have at Target. The funny thing is, since I started menopause (or perimenopause, or whatever you want to call it) my wedding band and engagement rings went from loose to tight and I just got them resized a full size larger ( from 4.75 to 5.75) so it was weird to be a size 1 in Target after I am feeling huge with my rings!!!:p

PS- I love the skirt!!!:):)

Later gators!

Good Afternoon!

Today I did Mix It Up. I feel like I keep improving each week with this workout.

Lat pulls, alternating lunges/hammer curls, (10# - up 5#) bent-over rows, crossover lunges/bicep curls, double rows (RB), squats/bicep curls (RB), jogging, half jacks (also 10# - up 2#)

Shoulder presses, pliés, pliés/front raises, rear delt raises, reverse lunges/side kicks, arnold press, pliés/lateral raises, rear delt raises, squats/side leg lifts,
alternating shoulder press (RB), jogging, half jacks (10# - all up 5#) except no double time reps on the Arnold Press

"Midsection series" -- punches, reaches, uppercut punch, crossover punch, upward reaches, side crunches, crossover reaches, side bends, downward reaches, chair pose, plié pose, side stretch (2#)

Standing chest flies (8# - up 3#), one-arm french press (RB), c-sweeps (for chest 8# - up 2#), supine french press (8# - up 1#), pelvic tilts, push-ups (20), kneeling tricep kickbacks (8# - up 1#), bent-leg lifts (first time using 5# ankle weights), chest press (10# - up 2#), rotating chest press (10# - up 2#), rib cage pullovers (started with 10s and had to go down to 8s - I guess the chest work really exhausts me), tricep press - 8#

Abs -- reverse crunches, alternating oblique crunches, standard crunches, double crunches

Deanie - Great workout! Sizing is crazy everywhere. I'm anywhere from a 0 to a 4 at Ann Taylor. Target is size 2 jeans. I'm a size 5 ring and they're loose on me now. I guess you let me in on what I have to look forward to. I have allergies but I can't live without a dog. We're on our second Pomeranian. The first one never shed but this one does. We recently got him cut short for the summer and he hasn't been shedding for awhile.

Melissa - I think it's great all your kids are getting the exact kind of education they need. I fought for years to try and get my DS the education he needed. It's too bad most schools are one-size-fits-all types when kids have so many different types of learning styles.

Jane - Maybe you should think of signing up for this ultramarathon:

Your workout looks great today. It's actually an easy one to figure out. I've copied it for future reference.

Gayle - Hope you're enjoying your time off!

Waves to all!

Deanie ~ LOL about what your DS said! :D

I hate shopping for clothes because I have to pull 3 sizes of everything I try on because I never know how it's going to fit. I always love when I can buy the smallest size!

Marcy - OMG!!! Those people are insane. I admit there is something appealing about it but I don't know if I can run 135 miles!! There is something about mind over body that interests me though. If I ever did it, I'd want you guys to be my crew! :)

Jane - I'll be standing by with water and towels! It almost reminds me of my Bikram yoga class - 105 degrees for 90 minutes. I can't believe I'm saying it but I actually got used to it. I never sweat so much in my life. But running in 105 degrees - fuhgetaboutit!
