****Kettlebell Thur. July 9****

Good Morning

I never got back to t he thread yesterday, but we accomplished so much around the house!!!:):) I painted the trim and ceiling yesterday of the playroom, and we went to home depot and bought all the stuff we needed to do projects around the house. We also moved some furniture around to make more sense in the house. All that and I did 3 loads of laundry!!**ha ha** Today all I need to do is paint the walls of t he playroom. I'm hoping to do it 2X (once in the am and once in the pm, but I think I will only have time for one time today!) The men are coming today to measure the playroom for a new rug, so I may have to be content with one painting!!

Melissa::: I do my deadlifts at home. I started by watching alot of videos on you tube and crossfit (will try and transfer the info at the end of the thread) I also started with 65# and worked my way up gradually. I highly recommend them. I feel like I stand straighter and I know they work my entire body!!
I am a vegetarian, but I don't do protein shakes. In fact, I don't eat a lot of protein at all. Usually around 60/70ish grams a day. Obviously I have high carbs: there are days I don't eat any bread and all my carbs are from fruits and veggies, and some days I do eat bread, all depends. Of course my bread is whole wheat/whole grain;) I do dairy once a day, maybe,.... I like cottage cheese and yogurt (chobain). My family eats meat, and if they ask for it, I make it for them. I make steak or chicken, but only the chicken breast and thin sliced, otherwise I am too grossed out! Does your family eat meat? what do you do about dinners?? For dinner usually I end up making 2- one for me and DH, and one for the boys. If DH and I have fish, I will make pasta on t he side for the kids, same with beans, I will have it with rice for the kids, but they also end up taking yogurts or something from the fridge. Like tonight we are having black beans and tortillas; the kids will eat tortillas with cheese in them....The kids can eat some thing different, but they can't cook anything on their own, I don't want to be cleaning too many pots and dishes!!LOL! They usually find something and I do have deli meats for them (I know, I know, they are full of chemicals!!) but they need something!! YOur vacation spot looks beautiful!!! I hope you have a great time!! Wow! can I write anymore??!! Hope this made sense, I am not proofreading today!! :p

Gayle::: glad you are feeling better, how'd the workout go last night?

Jane:::Enjoy your workout

Rhonda::: Hope all went well with your flight! Have fun!!

Marcy::: great workout!

I did death by kettlebell swing today with my 24kg! I got up to 20 swings and then tried for 21, but only got 13 in! My goal was 20, but secretly I was hoping for 25!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning!

Last nights workout went well...it was tough, but it went well. Do problems with the back. :)

AMRAP in 20:00

  • 12 DB hang squat cleans (55#/35#) 20# dumbbells
  • 9 pull-ups - 50# assisted
  • 6 burpees
Score - 7 rounds + 5 cleans

Deanie - OMG! Fabulous job with Death by Kettlebell! 20 rounds is awesome! Can I yell anymore!! :D

Sound like you had a really good productive day yesterday...I love days like that. :)

Waves to Missy, Marcy, Jane, Andilynn and Rhonda! :)

Tonight I'm going for a run with a friend. We're both signed up for the VT/NH Susan Komen 5k Race for the Cure at the end of the month. My friend has committed to doing the run with me, but he hasn't run since high school, so we're getting him out today.

Have a good one ladies!

Hi Everyone!

Last night's workout was great. It was very, very sticky outside and I was covered in sweat by the time it was over. Those 50 slam balls with my 25# ball were tough!! I'm still feeling it a little in my shoulders today.

Here is today's workout:

The Filthy Kettlebell
Do 50, 40 or 30 reps on time through

1. Step ups w/kettlebell
2. Jumping Pull ups
3. Swings
4. Mountain Climbers
5. Walking Lunge w/kb
6. Sit ups w/kb
7. Kettlebell Thrusters
8. Burpees  or Squat Thrusts :)

I think I'm going for 50 reps tonight. I may have to change the pull ups and walking lunges if it's raining. It's been rainy all week.

Deanie ~ A BIG WOW for the Death by Kettlebell Swing Workout!! I did 20 rounds back in April but I was only using my 35# bell. You ROCK!!! Now I feel like I need to try it with my 44# bell.

Gayle ~ Enjoy your run today! Will this be your first 5K race? They are so addicting. I'm not doing another race until September and I'm going through severe withdrawals. I just have so much fun racing even though I'm not that good!

Rhonda ~ Thinking of you in San Diego!!

Melissa ~ Are you ready for your trip? You'll have a great time!!

Waves hello to Marcy, Andilynn and Laura.

Deanie, I don't eat that much more protein than you do, I think (actually, my eating in general is very similar to yours!). I kept track of what I ate for a week in fitday a while ago and I came in somewhere between 15-18% calories from protein, 25% from fat and 60% from carbs. (I actually feel better on a high carb lifestyle, I have way more energy and feel much less sluggish) The only thing I do differently is the hemp protein smoothies (which isn't a mix, it's just ground hemp plant and I add soy milk and fruit, maybe some cinnamon or vanilla) and a very small portion of meat for dinner. My DH is a meat and potatoes man, so everything I cook I have to keep him in mind or make something completely different for him (which like you already mentioned is no fun to clean up!). I have been experimenting since this winter (I used to just make something diff for me), though: I will cook Cuban rice and some beans with a side of steamed veggies, but grill a portion of carne asada for him and it seems to be working... I think as long as there is either a) red meat b) mashed potatoes c) something grilled or d) something good with beer in a meal he seems to be happy... at least so far. He hasn't complained about anything, so I am hoping to make the change gradual enough that he won't notice how healthy he actually is eating. He really has come a long way, though; he was raised on McDonald's, Stauffer's frozen meals and Hamburger Helper and I can actually get him to eat all the meals that I cook that are made directly from the rawest source, so YEAH!

The like that you liked didn't work, but I watched the second link you sent. The instructor said that DL's were, IHO, "the second best exercise you could ever do"... I am wondering what the best is now! :p Thank you for the links. Do you alternate your hands with the hook grip? I don't know if that question made any sense... And I'm sorry that you weren't able to do 25 swings; I know that you will do it - if anyone can it's you! :)

Gayle, you mean "no" problems with the back? LOL; it took me a second to figure that one out. :D I am very happy that you are feeling better!

I have to take a nap before I can do anything else. Everything is packed, I just went grocery shopping for our trip, now all I have to do is clean... I love to come home to a clean house! :D I don't think that I will get a workout in today, and that's just fine with me. I am using vacation as an active rest week and will be doing lots of activities with the kids. I will post some pictures from our trip while we are gone... actually, do any of you guys have a facebook? I will be loading everything up there. Hmm, it sounds a bit presumptuous of me to even ask it, but hey! I am excited. This will only be my third time to a beach in 14 years.

Have a great day, all!

Melissa

Melissa - Doh!! Yes, I meant "no" problems with the back. :p I totally agree with you on coming home to a clean house. I do the same thing before going on vacation. I hope you have a great time. I'm on Facebook.

Jane - This is my 2nd 5k. I did the Komen run last year, too and it was fun. Hope the rain stays for your torture session tonight. ;)

Hi again =)

Melissa::: sorry the link didn't work. It is a crossfit video of Mark Ripletoe explaining how to do deadlifts. Maybe check the crossfit site.? I do the grip with one palm facing me, the other palm facing out: hope that makes sense:confused: It seems we do eat similar! I love fruits and veggies, so being a vegetarian is easy for me! My DH mostly eats like I do. Not sure if its because he wants to, or he just feels its easier than making his own dinner!!LOL;) just kidding, I'm sure he'd only eat like me if he wanted too! I hear you on the clean house and vacation!! I'm the same way. Not sure when you are leaving so....

Have a very fun/happy vacation!!!

Gayle:::
Great workout last night!! Glad your back is feeling better! Have fun running with your friend.

Jane:::Enjoy your torture (um, I mean your workout;)) today!! You are my new hero if you can do 50 reps of everything! I saw that on the jersey shore crossfit site!! (notice I saw it, but didn't do it;)) I know you will rock it!!

thanks for the kudos on my workout today gals:):), I was feeling bummed I couldn't do more.... now I'm good:)

Do you gals read the womens page on AOS? I think todays articles were really good! Since they have Stephanie and Lorie writing I find them very informative!! Melissa, Lori is also a vegetarian.

I painted one coat of color on my playroom walls (really happy with the color!!!:D) and at 4 I will finish with the second coat! I love getting my projects done in a timely manner!!..... next week I have to paint the little powder room on my main floor, then I think I am done for a while. (Have to paint the front door, but not sure how to do that, so I am procrastinating!!)

have a good one!!
waves to everyone else!!!

PS- I am not on facebook

Melissa ~ I'm so jealous of your vacation. I haven't had a proper one in almost 3 years. Have fun!!! BTW....I'm on facebook.

Deanie ~ I read the Women's Page on AOS. I love it! Great articles, information and recipes.

Hi All!

I did Tracey Staehle's Strictyly Upper Body from her Parts Series minus the abs:

Renegade Rows - 10#
1-arm rows - 20# KB
Concentration Curls - 15#; dropped down to 13# for last set with 2-2 count
Upper Cuts - 10#
Standing Bicep Curls facing out - 8#, hammer curls - 8#; dropped down to 5# for crazy 8s
1-Arm Chest Press - 15#
Chest Flies - 10#
Rotational pushups - 5#
Kickbacks sitting on ball - Sets of 1-8; on every odd set, holds for 3 counts
Tricep Overhead Extensions - 13#
2nd set of tricep kickbacks palms forward, elbows back - 5#
Shoulders - 5# went down to 3# for second set of flutters

This one has a wide variety of rep counts which make it interesting. Sometimes it feels like Slow & Heavy and other times like Squeeze.

Deanie - Good job with the painting! And, of course with your Death by Kettlebell! Yes, I did read the Women's Page articles which I thought were really good.

Melissa - Enjoy your vacation!

Waves to Jane, Rhonda, Andilynn, Laura & Gayle!
