Keli Roberts in fitness magazine

Hi everyone

Has anyone else seen the interview with Keli Roberts in one of the fitness magazines this month? (I think it is Fitness - mind and body, the one with Christy Turlington on the cover). In the interview she says that she has suffered from Bulimia even up until a year ago, and tried to commit suicide several times. I was really suprised to read this considering how fit and healthy she looks in all of her videos

Eating disorders can follow you through your whole life, and I can see where she would be especially tempted to fall into that trap given her line of work. She is expected to be thin and look good, after all! I had an eating disorder when I was a teenager, and it's resurfaced a number of times but not to the same degree. There is such pressure on us all to look good and be thin, that it becomes a big focus. I still fight it! I'll have to drag that out and read it.

I am surprised by that too. Like Honeybunch said, eating disorders are such a painful disease that anyone can suffer from them and they are hard to beat. I just got my first Keli Roberts video (Body Bar Workout) recently and I really like her personality--she seems so sweet! It is so funny how she says "Ughhhhh!" right when it starts to get really hard! It makes you feel that she is right there with you. I hope Keli has all the help and support she needs!

The L.A. Times did an article on exercise bulimia & the high incidence of it in fitness professionals. Keli was quoted several times as she is one of the few high profile professionals to admit that she'd struggled with it. Keli does look fabulous & is now at a healthier weight than she was a few years ago.

I was impressed

It takes a lot of guts to admit you had a problem in the fitness industry. I have been through an eating disorder, too, and felt comforted to know that even these fitness pros are not perfect. Now I am thankful that I can move each and every day no matter how much extra poundage lies on my frame.

Kathy Kaeler...

...has also shared about her experiences with eating disorders (check out the beginning of her tape with all the celebrities, or maybe it's at the end). It's great that she's so vocal about how dangerous eating disorders are, I think she really offers a lot of encouragement for people trying to overcome it.

It's interesting that Keli is associated with Hollywood, where body image is worshiped. No wonder it's been so hard for her, it must take an inordinate amount of guts for her to talk about it! I think it's a huge step towards getting healthy, so I'm glad to see her dealing with it.

yes...

I absolutely noticed the article because I do quite a few of her tapes--and I was stunned. I say: good for her that she has acknowledged and overcome (struggles) with the problem.
