I received my "Terrific Trio" DVD of Christi Taylor's today, and quickly previewed it. It looks like so much fun!!! I can't wait to try these three!!

And, I finally ordered Tracie Long's new DVD - Functional Foundations - the "Yorktown" workouts!! They're called Core Cardio and Core Strength. DVD madness strikes again!! LOL!!

Hey Carol! I got Christi's 'Terrific Trio' at the same time Cathe's High Step workouts came out and have really enjoyed mixing things up with these DVDs. Christi's style is very natural and I am enjoying her choreography (I like the learning curve, it keeps things fresh and my over taxed brain nimble:) ).
Enjoy your new workouts, let us know how you like them!

Congrats on your 1000th post. YAAAY CAROL!!!:) :)

Take Care

Oh wow, Laurie! I didn't even notice that was my 1000th post!! LOL!! I was going to do Gauntlet this morning, but instead I'm going to try Stepping Zone! I feel like a nice complex step workout this morning! I've done a lot of weight work this week (just did S&H/C&B last evening with hubby and daughter!!), so I think step is just what I need today. I'll let you know how I like it!!

Well ... okay ... let's see ... the choreography is complex. And, it jumps around a lot more than what I'm used to from Cathe. Does that make sense? I'm not even sure the sides were balanced out evenly - LOL!! She lost me more than once. My daughter did it with me, and she was quite frustrated. Of course, bear in mind she's 13 and just mastered "knees around the world" this past week, so I knew this would blow her away. Heck, it blew ME away!! I'm the original step klutz though, but I'm just used to Cathe and her style. Spoiled by it, is more like it!! :) Cathe is still the best as far as cueing goes, IMHO!! I'm sure I'll do it again, and I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. It's a fun workout and I was really enjoying it - when I could figure out which side of the body she was working and which leg she was on now - LOL!!

Oh well. It wouldn't be any fun if we couldn't try new things!!

By the way, my daughter has been working out consistently this summer for the first time ever! She's done an average of 5 days a week - alternating cardio and weights - and just recently started doing Body Fusion and Basic Step for her cardio instead of always riding her bike. She is SO hooked on Cathe now!! She loves Basic Step because it's broken down so much, and that is exactly what she needed. Nik hasn't really committed to changing her diet (I'm slowly working on that part with her!), but she has done a great job working out, and the first 9 weeks now she's lost 5 pounds and almost 7 inches! I think now that she can SEE the results of her work, the eating habit changes she needs to make will come as well. We're working on a plan for her so she can keep working out when school starts. She may have to get up at 5:00 AM with me some mornings because of her music lessons after school, but she's already said she'll give it a try! She doesn't want to go backwards. Thanks Cathe!!! You really helped motivate my couch-potato daughter!!!!!! LOL!!

Carol, I think that is amazing that your daughter is working out with you! You are obviously setting a great example for her! Lucky kid!

Like you, I just started exploring Christi Taylor's workouts, after years of sticking with Cathe. I agree with you that the cuing is very different. I've spent a bit of time in the past couple of weeks learning "Totally Cool Step", and "Totally Hot Cardio." The music is terrific in them, IMHO, but the choreography is quite complex. These two workouts have "Move Master" segments, where she goes through each combo very slowly and lets you see exactly what she does. This has reduced the frustration factor quite a bit. Does she have this with the workouts you purchased? These two workouts also have a really fun (but easy, relative to Cathe) ab workout, to the music "Tequila".

Happy stepping,
Sandra

Hi Sandra!

Nik has worked out with me off and on before, but this is the first time she's taking it seriously, and since she's actually seeing results in her body because of this, I think the light bulb finally went off, you know? LOL!! It's so much more fun having here there with me, because she's a kid and she has such fun doing it, even when it's challenging for her! She keeps me from taking it so seriously I stop having fun.

No, unfortunately the Christi workouts I purchased don't have such a wonderful thing as Move Master segments!! If they do, I haven't found them on the DVD. Maybe I should explore it a bit more?

Carol,

I'm glad you decided to take the plunge into Christi's stuff. From your post I get the idea that you like her, but maybe the frustration factor overrides that! I have a few comments:

Christi's cueing is very different than Cathe's. Combined with her more complex choreography, this makes learning a Christi workout quite difficult for many, especially when you are used to Cathe's style.

If you watch the videos of both instructors, you'll notice that Cathe actually cues during (or hardly a beat before) many of her moves. You are used to this, so it works for you. Christi cues several beats before a move, so one who is used to Cathe's stuff will automatically start doing that move when Christi cues it, even though they should wait a couple of beats. You will get used to this change in cuing style. I actually prefer Christi's cuing.

I would highly recommend watching Christi's workouts in their entirety before doing them. Not just the previewing/fastforwarding/doing-laundry-and-catching-snipets sort of previewing, but really watching and even walking through some of the moves. I'm sure this would help.

Good luck. I hope you will keep giving Christi a try!

By the way, there is no Move Master on the Terrific Tri DVD.

:)

Thanks, Wendy! I couldn't find the Move Master on the DVD, but thanks for letting me know it's really not there so I didn't keep looking for it, because you know I would have - LOL!!

You are so right about Christi's cueing! She does it ahead of time compared to what I'm used to with Cathe. Also, I've done Cathe's workouts so many times now, I don't need the cueing - I just know them!! I won't give up on Christi - thanks for the encouragment! I really like her personality and the workouts are challenging, and I'm sure I'll figure out the choreography in time. Hey ... I figured out Rhythmic Step and that third combo of Step Blast, so I can do anything!! LOL!!

I "grew up" on the Firm and early Kathy Smith and Denise Austin, where there was not much need for cueing. They did the same steps over and over and over again!! (Kathy and Denise - not the Firm) LOL!! The early Firms didn't move very fast, and you always knew what was coming next. I never did the whole step craze thing in clubs, and I wasn't buying too many step tapes back then once I discovered the Firm, so I never got used to the kind of step tapes that Cathe's and Christi's are. It's like a whole new world for me everytime I try a new instructor, but it's fun too!!

Thanks again!!

Carol

Hey Carol! Keep trying with Christie's workouts. You ordered some of her earlier ones. The ones she has more recently made are cued better. Just try to relax (well sort of) and let your feet go the flow. Eventually, you will end up on the right foot. And never try to add in all the flips and turns she does until you are very comfortable with the workout. I can see why your daughter would get a little crazy trying to keep up with Christie's feet! You are doing a good job with her. I have been trying to get mine to stop rolling her eyes at me and join me! Maybe soon. :D

Thanks, Renee!! She sure does put a lot of extra moves in there - LOL!!

My daughter has seen me workout from the time she was born, and she's 13 now. It's taken her this long to stop that eye-rolling thing and join me - LOL!!

No Move Master on these early videos-only on her last couple. Stay with her though, she's a blast!
