Just not gettin' it (Core Max)

There are a couple of the exercises in Core Max where I just can't seem to get any burn. I know I've got to be doing them wrong! Can you tell me what the secret is?

The one that really comes to mind is in the 3rd workout where you lie on the stability ball and put the medicine ball on your shoulder, then do the cross crunch (or whatever the heck you call it). What's the trick there?

Oh! And when you lie on the floor with the medicine ball held straight out over your one shoulder, then sit up crossing it over your center as if to pass it to someone on the other side of you. I can't feel anything there either.

But BOY...do I ever feel it in the one where you balance on your butt with the ball held in front of your chest and you extend your legs and bring them back in. OUCH! That one's bru-TAL!

Hi Donna,

I felt the same way about the cross-over with the ball on the shoulder. I got rid of the ball, and it was easier for me to focus on just the crunch. Hope this helps.

If you really focus your energy on your obliques in both of these exercises and make sure you are not using your arms to "pull" you and carry the ball, you will definitely feel it. Particularly DOMS. You do have to totally focus on it though, because it's really easy to let your arms and back do the work on these. On the ball it's easy to let yourself get into a motion of rolling on the balance ball, rather than just sitting on it. Focus hard, even slowing down the motion, (think slow & heavy) and you'll feel it.

Cathe's tip about putting your free hand on your hip really helped me focus on the obliques in that crossbody crunch.

I was thinking about a subject title like this earlier this week. I think they are just too advanced for me. However, I did feel it more (in the no equip one) when I placed my hands behind my head instead of by my side.
Thanks for the tips on the ball cross body, slowing down will probably help.
