Hi,

Hubby and I have been trying to get pg for almost 2 years (and I'll be 36 this month). We've been married for almost 8 years and I have two children from a previous marriage (as does he). This would be our first together.

Has anyone successfully used a fertility doctor? It sounds so promising. I should be starting my period this Sunday/Monday then on day 3 of my cycle I will take a blood test to test my hormones, etc. Then he'll do an xray type test where they put the dye in and check to make sure I have no blockages, etc. Then he'll schedule an ultrasound (I believe to check my eggs). He may do an HI--husband insemination or have us have spontaneous intercourse 3 times in 24 hours. He stated if all goes well we can probably get going in the next couple of weeks (which would be around the time I ovulate).

I was diagnosed with a STAFF infection last week in my bladder that I believe I've had for "awhile" and just didn't know I had. (no other symptoms other than brief pain in my belly button of all places--thought I might of had a hernia!!) I was reading through the paperwork and was astonished to find out that infections can caused infertility because it may prevent the sperm from traveling through the cervix. When we first started trying I got a uti infection and was almost 2 weeks later (which I'm never late, other than maybe a day or 2 at most) thinking I was pregnant. The doctor (who is just a GP doctor) told me that the infection shouldn't prevent me from having my period nor prevent pregnancy but according to the fertility paperwork it actually can! (hmm, now that I've been taking meds for awhile this can go away and maybe help us!!)

I'm looking for advice & hope! Keep us in your prayers!! Thanks for listening.......

I remeber seeing you around here before... I wish you lots of luck!

My mother had success... ummm.... 35 years ago. :) Thankfully! ;) She was inseminated 2 x's and here I am. She never had any other children, and it wasn't because there was no opportunity.

Does the paperwork state that any infection can cause difficulty conceiving or specifically infections of the reproductive organs?

I know others who have had success. If you have any questions about insmeinations, clomid, follistem, or HCG boosts just ask. I went through 5 cycles of treatment.

You are in my prayers!

Thanks Autumn for the kind words. I think it is infections of the reproductive area that would affect it but I don't recall it specifically saying that. Did you go through treatment each time with your children?

Hi Denise,

I went through many years of infertility treatments to get my first 3 kids (2 are twins). My 4th child was a "surprise". I did just about everything medically possible - IVF, GIFT, Clomid, GnRh pump, inseminations, Pergonal w/Lupron, etc. It was tough, but definitely worth it!

Ask if you can take some ibuprofen before your HSG - sometimes it can cause cramping and can be uncomfortable.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Good luck! I hope things go well for you.

Hi Denise-

I just had an HSG in January, and I'd say definitely take that advice on ibuprofen. The doctor said "You may feel cramping." She was not kidding!

DH and I were both prescribed Clomid by our respective doctors. In my case it was in preparation for HI, and his case due to low sperm count. We were very fortunate that the first try at HI worked. (Some Tylenol after that is not a bad idea either.)

Celebrating my 40th birthday pregnant with my first child wasn't what I envisioned when we were married 15 years ago, but we are very happy.

Good luck!

Denise good luck and let us know how your ttc journey is going. It's nice to talk about our emotions so we don't feel so alone, and husbands just feel the same thing at the same time unfortunately. I hope the doc is fabulous!:)

I don't know anything about these things, Denise but I just wanted to wish you all of the luck in the world! :+

Hi all,

Tomorrow I go in for an xray test (where they put in a catheter and shoot dye in to check for any blockages, etc in my tubes, etc). I have heard it's painful but I should be okay. (the Valium they give you should help, lol) Has anyone had this done? My poor hubby--I just got off my period and the doctor's nurse said no sex until the doctor talks to me. We weren't sure exactly why but maybe someone here would make sense of it. I'm hoping that the test goes well and nothing serious is found because day 13 of my cycle (Monday) would be were he would give me a shot to make me ovulate and he'd do an internal ultrasound to check my eggs. Then day 14 (Tuesday) the IUI (intrauterine insemination) would take place. I'm so hoping that this works out that we can do the IUI on Tuesday. The IUI actually bypasses the cervix and goes right up to the tube area. The sperm is specifically washed (which makes them swim faster) prior to this. Has anyone had one of these done?

Keep us in your prayers (I'm having such a hard time, as I really want this to be successful)

I've had the HSG and many IUIs - three of my kids were conceived by IUI.

Some people have more trouble with IUIs than others. Mine never bothered me - I just tried to stay relaxed. I liked visualizing relaxing scenes and breathing deeply - that always worked for me and kept me from getting tense.

Good luck! A lot of people get pregnant after HSGs because it seems to clear up the tubes.

Keep us updated - I know it's a stressful time.

Yes, this is the HSG. (Hysterosaplingogram?) It is over very quickly, maybe ten minutes. The doctor showed me how the dye moved through my tubes on the screen, which was kinda cool! Definitely take a pain reliever beforehand, and expect some cramping and discharge afterward. It is more uncomfortable than painful. They will probably give you a panty shield, but you might want to bring one with you just in case.

Good luck!

Had the test today. Everything went well, no blockages, tubes very open (per the doctor & nurse). I had no pain/discomfort, actually was pretty easy. Now hoping my doctor does the IUI on Tuesday!!

Thanks for all the kinds words......I'll keep you all updated if I have any more stuff done!!

Hi all!

Met with my doctor last Monday, day 13 of my cycle, to get all my results. He stated everything with me is perfect, hormonally and with my tubes. My husband has great quantity (the doctor was surprised since it had been 7 years since he had the original vascetomy and then the reversal) and quality. The motility was a factor. (they aren't getting up there fast enough) He didn't do the IUI this cycle (maybe he's hoping after the tube test we would get pregnant on our own). Doc stated to increase the motility (make them faster) have lots and lots of intercourse. (hope that's not too much information) Well, I told him that since we couldn't have any for 10 days (prior to the tube exam), that we had done it 5 times since Friday night (and this was on Monday). He high fived me and stated "That's my girl, that's what I want to hear!" I'm hoping that maybe we got pregnant on our own. I've heard several people get pregnant after having the dye run through their tubes. (when I had called his nurse on that Friday after the test to inquire about having intercourse, she stated yes, by all means this is the best time since everything is open and receptive. The doctor told us that after having the test, your chances of getting pregnant increase by 50% in the next couple of months. When we met with him that Monday I told him I thought I was ovulating (I can usually tell). He checked my charts and stated that sounded about right. Well the next day I was extremely "warm" to put it mildly (my temp had risen). Hubby looked it up on the internet and stated that after a women ovulates the next day her temperature rises so I indeed ovulated that Monday. (so 5 times prior to the meeting and one more time that night & once on Tuesday for a total of 7 oppurtunities to have HIT my window!!!)

My breasts have been so sore since around last Thursday night, where I noticed a tingly feeling all around them. Didn't think nothing much of it but it has gotten worse since then. (can't stand to have my clothes/bra up against them) Either I have bad pms or .............(I've had some other really strange symptoms to but that could be coincidental--my breasts haven't hurt this bad since well I was pregnant, lol)

Doc stated if we don't get pregnant this month, then for my next cycle he'll give me Clomid because he WANTS me to release at least 2 or 3 more eggs. Then he'll do the IUI to help them have a better chance since they will be input right where they need to be. (oh my, can anyone say chance of twins???)

Has anyone gotten or has heard of anyone getting pregnant after the dye test?

Wish us luck!

Thanks ladies for listening to me ramble.......

Denise

I haven't heard that, but then again most ladies I know who have gone through a fertility doctor don't like to talk about it much. It sounds like all is going well and your doctor is encouraging. I hope this is it, or that you get pg SOON! Best Wishes, and keep us updated!:)

Denise- thanks for that thorough and interesting update! I'm glad the tests have been coming back so positive for you (good hormones, good quantity etc)!! That is very heartening.

I am so excited for you- it sounds like you're doing everything right, and very often LOL! I truly hope your soreness is the sign you're looking for, and I can't wait to hear!

My son's teacher got pregnant after her HSG. She had been trying to conceive for a long time and she got pregnant right away after her HSG. Her daughter will be 2 in October. :D

Best wishes!

Wow, Denise, this sounds promising! Especially the sore boobs part! I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. When will you test? We can start a count down!

Cheers,
Sandra

<has heard of anyone getting pregnant after the dye test?>

Denise, I am praying for you!
