Just had a 5.6 earthquake here in the Bay Area

Nothing even rattled - so I doubt there's any damages. We're pretty close to the epicenter.

But it was weird because someone on another forum was mentioning that her cat was acting really weird. My dogs - slept through the quake. So much for them as indicators...

Wow Christine....that was a good size Earthquake. Glad things are okay at your house. Funny about the dogs sleeping thru it...I have not felt any like that since I moved from L.A.!!...:)

I still have electricity, internet connection and cable tv. It did shake - and it was weird. Think of stepping on one of those jerky rides at the amusement park. Felt like someone was moving the sofa back and forth.

Funny you mention that link....I pulled it up after your post and told my DH to come look...he said "what?" I said check out the big red square!!....I used to check that site a lot. We have some small ones here, like 3.0, but nothing much more than that. I was in that nasty one in LA in 1971 (I think it might have been a 7.1)...scared the YKW outta me...:)

It is a huge red box, isn't it. But a 5.6 is nothing like a 7.1. That would scare the heck out of me too! The big one that hit the Bay Area in 89 was a 6.9. A 5.6 is conversation - just kind of floored me as I never felt one before.

I was wrong, the LA one in 1971 was 6.6 with 65 fatalities!! I was watching the World Series for the 89 one....what a mess, especially the bridges collapsing....very sad.

>Funny thing though - DD14 was on the John when it happened...

I was watching that game as well. My cousin lived in San Francisco at that time and I remember the panic in our family until they heard from him. I also remember thinking I could NEVER live in California... Funny how things turn around...

Yes it is funny how things turn...:)...In the 89 one I was supposed to go to SF the next week to get my manicuring license...I said....NO WAY!!! I postponed until Dec...:)

Ironically, when the Seattle quake hit, I was supposed to be there, but I cancelled at the last minute. I don't blame you for postponing. The kids are fine. Everyone is saying that they grabbed kids and stood in doorways... I spent most of the shaking trying to figure out what I was feeling!

SF was still a mess 2 months later, but not nearly as bad as the next week would have been. Lucky you missed the Seattle one. I am glad the kids are fine. They always say to stand in doorways. Earthquakes can really be scary, especially to anyone that has never felt one.

OMG!!!!!
That just scared the crap out of me. I actually still feel sick and shaky. I was home alone with my 3 girls and I was walking down the stairs and the chandeleir started shaking and I was terrified. My 8 yesr old was yelling that we are going to die and my 7 year old was crouched in a corner and my 5 year old had no idea what was going on. I have to say I was shaking and I ran outside with my girls afterwards. I really don't handle stuff like that well. The funny thing is my dog Katie was barking for no reason for the past couple of hours. She was driving me nuts. Smart little dachsie;-)

Well, I am just glad it is over. I am suprised that there were no after shocks though.

Hey! It was my first earthquake experience and the description of it being like an amusement park ride is right on the money! I just sat and watched everything sway--I was on a chair with wheels what a ride! Funny thing is that I had just worked out to Cathe's new kickbox workout--if it had happened during it I think I would be thinking that it's time to hit the diet a little harder--Actually, I think I may have caused it with doing the Cathe workout--too many jumping jacks Cathe!

Christine, Carole, Susan, and all our CA Catheites-

Glad everyone is OK!!!

A few years ago, we had a small earthquake one day while I was in the middle of teaching class. It was the weirdest thing. Felt like the floor "rolled." That kinda stuff NEVER happens in Jersey!
