Good morning ladies...

Starting out the day for us...Today is plyo legs and yoga based abs.

Be back later to chat...

Morning Kathy and those who follow -- up early (went to bed early)...not a full 8 hrs though (I wonder what that feels like). Trying to cool the house for free right now...have no clue what I'm going to do. 40-60 minutes of cardio followed by pc1. I'm thinking about doing cardio power...that said, I'm also thinking about a circuit too. So, I'm not sure of anything! :) I have a pathetic guard dog though. She didn't wake up for 20-30 minutes after me futzing around and now she just wants to kiss me to deaht. But she's being good waiting for Joe to walk her politlely....

Good morning! Kathy, way to go on plyo legs!

Hottie, she's probably a fine guard dog -- she just knew it was you!! :) Wow, you are into those double workouts, aren't you? Would you do a circuit plus clx?!

Chris, let me know when you want to do another round of STS. I'm really really really loving what I'm doing now, but I know I need to get back to STS again eventually (soonish). It'd be fun to be in sync with more people this time, if anyone else is game! (hint, hint)

I made chili for dinner last night, too! And, my boys didn't eat it, either. They frequently don't eat what we have.

I did Angie Miller's Core Strength & Fusion, I think it's called. It's on netflix if anyone wants to try it -- it's a total body workout with a good cardio factor. I didn't feel my upper body worked as hard as I do with Jillian or lalo though -- don't know if I should have gone heavier with weights or what.

Yikes, I've got a busy day..... gotta go......

Hi everyone!! I missed you all!! We got back late Friday night, but I've been busy with unpacking, laundry, more laundry, even more laundry, and getting back to normal stuff. Saturday morning Caitlyn came down with a fever. She's been really sick - fevers close to 104. She keeps saying her head hurts. I took her to the doctor yesterday and left feeling a bit frustrated. I love three of the four doctors there and of course I got the fourth one. She's fine, but she's younger and I don't think she's as thorough or precautious as the others. She did a strep test which was negative, but Caitlyn does have white spots on her throat. She said it's just something going around. Except we haven't been "around" for two weeks - how would she get it? I'm giving it another day and taking her back in if she's not better. She's just so miserable - I feel bad.

Today is my baby boy's (Colin's) 10th birthday! Wow - how did that happen? This is my first day back at work, so I'm having working mother's guilt that I'm not there on his birthday. But, I made a cake last night (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting -mmm!) so we'll have that tonight. Saturday is his party/sleepover/campout in the backyard. I think eight boys are coming. So far the weather looks good. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Vacation was good, but I was so glad to be home. Two weeks was just too much. I think I'm the only one who felt that way, but I had enough! The weather was actually pretty cool most of the time. Nice, but not good for swimming or boating really. We were right on a lake. We did have a few good days on the water, though. Kids had a blast. Their cousins came up for a few days and one stayed with us for the entire second week. Bringing the dog was not such a good idea. She was fine, but she couldn't be left alone in the cabin. She'd cry and try to get out. She went through the screen one time. Luckily, it popped right back in. ;) So, we had to take her everywhere.

I turned into a total slug and didn't workout at all until yesterday. I feel like a big squishy potato. I did run with Tully a few times on vacation, but that was it. Yesterday I did Tonya Larson's Step Surge which was perfect for getting back into it. Not too hard. Today was Amy's Kickbox Surge - I only made it through the first four combos. Now I need to figure out what rotation I'm going to do and stick to it!!

How is everyone? I haven't had a chance to look at the threads I missed. Hope you are all doing well! Anyone ordering Insanity? I'm seriously thinking about it. I need to do a month of a Cathe rotation, first, though. I think I'd kill myself if I just jumped into it.

Hottie, are you still doing CLX? Are dogs the best? ;)

Hey Kathy. Plyo Legs sounds good. Are you doing Cathe's July rotation? How did you like it? I got the DVD in the mail from you yesterday - glad you liked it.

Lots of work stuff to catch up on...

Joanne

Hi Beth! Just missed you! What rotation are you doing now? I like that Angie Miller workout. I really feel it in my legs the next day. But, like you, I usually feel like my upper body could use more. I don't think I'm up for another STS rotation just yet. But, I'll be cheering you all on. ;)

Hey everyone!!

Got up kind of late this morning (7:30!!), so my day is behind. Not that it's huge on a summer day, but we do have a busy afternoon. Alex has a dentist appt and Jake has his "Martha Speaks" Book club, and they overlap. So I'm trying to figure out how to manage both. Going to have to bring all 3 boys with me to do it (have Zach wait with Jake at the library while I drop Al off at the dentist.).

It's again, hot , humid and sunny out. I've talked myself into being ok without the AC. I grew up without AC in our house, fans only. And I slept upstairs, where it was stifling hot, with only a fan. I survived. I will survive this until Friday!

I'm changing up this last week a little from the rotation I was following. I really feel like I need to do more/concentrated weight work. I found a rotation with a week I like, it goes like this:

Mon…..Intense 50 minutes of your favorite cardio….(I did RS)

Tues….Pyramid Upper Body

Wed….Imax 3 any segment of Core Max

Thurs…..Pyramid Lower Body

Fri…….60 minute cycle workout (or sub a cardio that is weight bearing)

Sat…….Muscle Max

And then I think I want to go for a month of "heavy", I'll see what Cathe puts out for August, if not I'll do 4DS/GS for a month. And THEN I definitely want to do STS again. Is that waiting too long, Beth? I'll start earlier if you really want to, but I feel like I do need to work on my strength a couple of weeks before I do STS.

Kathy: Plyo legs!! WOOT WOOT! yOU GO!!!!

I hit some button and my post posted! At least it didn't erase it, like it usually does!

Okay NOWWWW I hit a button and it just erased a paragraph!!!

So now I type Over: lol!!

Hottie: Evee sounds like a good poochy!! You must have enjoyed your 30 minutes this morning of "alone" time. that's how I feel when i get up before the boys do. You do have a fulll workout planned today! Can't wait to hear what you picked!!

Beth: Yes, i definitely want to start STS too soon. Let me know what you think of my 'plan'. ... Funny you had chili and your boys don't eat it either. Yep, I'd say about 1/2 of the time I'm cooking something different for my boys for dinner too. ..... Sounds like you are having fun with your workouts. I've never heard of Angie Miller, is she good?

Joanne: Hey!!! Nice to have you back! 2 WEEKS was a long time for you to be gone!..Missed ya!..LOL!... Your vacation sounds fun though, and I'm sure it was nice to get away . SOoooooo sorry to hear about Caitlyn being sick. the poor thing! Does she have a bad sore throat? I would bring her back, Joanne. Not panicking here, but high fevers and sore throats are generally the Flu lately. And they should put her on Tamiflu if that's the case! ..... Sounds like your vacation was like mine, very little working out. It's hard when you're away and having fun to fit it in. I bet you were active/busy the entire time though. You are getting back into it, those 2 are goodies to start with , anything with the word "surge" in it sounds tough!!.... I've decided that Insanity isn't for me and not going to get it. It sounds like it's alot of repetive moves over and over and I never got into that kind of stuff, like with Tony horton's Power 90 cardio. High knees, fast runs, football drills, etc. I always thought Cathe makes it more interesting and fun. So since I pre ordered STS cardio, I'm just going to go with that.

So hopefully this isn't eaten, I better hit "submit" now!!

Joanne!!! We've missed you! So glad to see you back. Sorry to hear about Caitlyn..... they did the quick test for strep in the office, right? Did they also do a culture to send out to a lab? They should have, it sounds like. We have at least one time had the one in the office be negative, and then they call me in the next couple of days because the lab one is positive. Poor thing!

Two weeks is a long time to be away from home, and I'm sure it was hard to think about doing any kind of "workout" there. You'll get back on track! The rotation I'm doing now is a huge mix of things -- I've started getting into barre work, so it gets some of that in. Let's see if I can remember..... roughly:

Day 1: cardio coach
Day 2: total body weights (I try to pick out something heavy, but have been enjoying things like Squeeze Stronger, Jillian, lalo)
Day 3: cardio barre & maybe add on a short cardio like one 4DS
Day 4: circuit
Day 5: barre
Day 6: kettlebell
Day 7: stretch

I think that's right -- for some reason I have a hard time remembering it when I'm not staring at it.

Chris, I'm not in a big hurry to start STS, so you let me know when you're ready. If I get ready, I'll let you know. I did order Cathe's bar thing and I hope to have that before getting to meso 3 again to help with chest press and the like.

Re: Angie Miller -- it was her kettlebell workout I did last week that I liked so much and felt for so long. For her weight work today, I would say it's a so-so thing. I didn't feel super worked, and I hope no one takes offense, but she has the slightest midwestern accent that got to me after a while. She sounds like maybe she's from MN or WI but that she's tried to get rid of the accent. Larry came in. listened to her very briefly, and did his "yah far sure, yumpin' yimminey". He's from Madison -- he loves the midwest, really, but on my end that accent gets old. ;) But, it's worth trying if you have netflix. I did like the cardio factor. Lately it seems like I think a weight workout is hardly worth doing if it doesn't have the cardio factor. I'm crazy, I know.....

P.S. Joanne, forgot to comment on Insanity...... I got a preview disc and did not like it. He jumps right in to intense stuff without a build up to it, and there is a lot of the "signature BB" repeating of drills -- three times. Personally, I get really tired of that repetition, so it was a pretty easy decision for me -- especially with Shock Cardio on the way.....

Chris, sounds like a busy day with the boys! I, too, grew up with no AC in Chicago. I can still remember laying underneath my bedroom window with the fan blowing hot air on me eating popsicles and ice hoping to get cool enough to fall asleep! We don't have central air now, but do have a few window units. Not the best, but better than nothing at all. If we ever win the lotto (ha!) the first thing I will do is get central air. The weird thing about Caitlyn's throat is she never said it hurt. I asked her and she kept saying no. And she's not shy about telling you what's wrong. ;) I thought about the flu thing, too. Is tamiflu effective if it's given after you've been sick for a few days? I thought it was best to take right away? They did send the strep test to the lab, too, so maybe it is strep afterall. We should find out tomorrow.

Beth, that looks like such a cool rotation! I was eyeing those Physique 57 DVDs. What are you doing for the barre workouts? I know what you mean about Angie's voice. There's some type of accent there. I'm from the midwest, but don't think (at least I hope I don't!) sound like that. I think it's the fact that she never stops talking throughout the whole workout. It doesn't really bother me, though.

OK, I'm a sucker - I did order Insanity. I keep reading all these raving reviews. I need something different. Hopefully I won't kill myself trying it!

Back to work...

Um, I go to India during the summer without AC and I still can't survive without central. Though I was lucky to have not dilly dallied too long to do my workout before it got too warm -- 4DS KB with the SB Challenge as an add on (I'm REALLY liking doing that -- just adding it onto 30 minutes workout to just surge my HR) and then did PC1. But it sorta drained me a bit so I was a bit sluggish around the house afterwards. I made some lunch for me/dinner for Joe and I felt an omen. I cut off the flowers from the broccoli I was stir frying and chopped it up and put it in my dog's bowl. She went to the bowl put one piece in her mouth, chewed, and the promptly dropped it to the floor! I swear I did this -- I then took a piece I chopped up for her and put it in my mouth to show her that *I* would eat it. She eventually chewed threw it all but rather begrudgingly. I hope my kids like broccoli. I love broccoli!! My mom convinced me if I ate a bunch of them I would grow tall. She lied. But I still love it.

Kathy -- how was Plyo legs? Can you stand? ;)
Joanne -- WELCOME BACK!!!! Yeah, I'm still doing CLX though I'm adding a fair bit of cardio to it. I sort of can't stand her warmup...I never feel warm so I try to do 20-30 minutes at least if not more before diong the weights. Its definitely been interesting to lift heavy weights but I think its just gotten me more excited to do STS. This has been a good primer. Thanks for the warning about bringing dogs on vacation! Joe had an idea like that and I'm not sure if that really is going to work...I hpoe Caitlyn feels better - it sucks to be sick in the summer time.
Beth -- yeah, double workouts. I've been a little bit more motivated because Joe has been dropping weight as fast as I've been gaining and my mom is coming tomorrow so just a little worried with how I look. I really don't want to be at work today because there's so much to do at home but I have to be around since my boss just came back. They do this all the time to me too -- I tell them when my boss is gone for some time and try to schedule it while he's gone and they always schedule it right when he comes back. I really wish sometimes I had a real job with real vacation hours so I could just fill out a form like Joe and not have to deal with anything else. There used to be a postdoc here that would tease me about how I would work like crazy when our boss wasn't around and then be gone when he'd come back. But I'm stuck here until past 7p today most likely so whatever...
Chris -- you guys make me want to get STS sooner so I can do it with you! I was planning on getting it for Joe at the end of the month but with all these expenses coming on us, its been put off even more (chimney -- at least that's only going to be a 1K to shut the city up, my insane electricity bill, my dental bill, etc etc -- oh yeah, my MIL asking us for four figures -- but that's not happening). STS even seems like a small purchase against all of that but still I feel guilty...

Let ME hit submit before this gets delayed even more!

Hey girls...

Beth: I'd like to get at least 2 weeks of GS/4DS in , but if you (or *I*) can wait until Sept, that'd be even better...Yep, those are the moves I just don't get into for Insanity. BUT.. maybe if Joanne LOVES it (I'm selfishly glad you ordered it though! LOL!) I'll give it a second look! What the heck is "Cathe's Bar thing"? Maybe I want "cathe's bar thing" (if I knew what you meant! LOL!). Yes, I knew someone who was from MN, and she could talk with that accent "on demand", she usually did it to be funny. Like the characters from "Fargo", remember? I could see where constant accent could grate on your nerves!

Joanne: no, that's GOOD her throat doesn't hurt. I wouldnt think it was the flu than. And yes, the tamiflu is usually effective if taken 48 hours of symptoms onset. I always thought the doctors were extra precautious with her because of her surgeries? .... OMG, I sweltered in the heat growing up too. My dad used to LOVE the heat. He'd sit in the sun in the middle of a 90+ degree, hot & Humid. I may have a "little" of him in me, since I'm not doing too bad so far.

Hottie: GOOD workout today, YOU!! That's a great idea to add on the SB challenge! I might steal that idea from you soon. I hope EVEE doesn't get a tummy ache from the broccoli!! ... Dangnabit on all those bills and you not being able to get STS! Grrr!! Hey, I read this "money saving trick" recently. It said to save EVERY $5 bill you get, Put it away and save it. maybe you could do that for STS?

Oh buggers.. the grill ran oout of propane, so now I have to grill in the house! :p

I grew up in Michigan without A/C. That's all I'll say. I need my coastal fog!!!

Joanne, you'll definitely have to give us the play by play on insanity -- just don't make me want it. ;) For barre workouts I did order cardio barre and exhale core fusion, and from long, long ago I have the old bar method and lotte berk. So, I have variety, but they aren't very tough. I'm really excited about P57!

Chris, I can definitely wait until Sept -- that'll be quite easy -- the weeks are flying, and we're supposed to have a road trip in here somewhere. I could even wait longer. I was thinking about trying to work a week of 4DS in myself. The Cathe bar thing is that thing that's not a squat rack -- you know, the bar they use in STS to hold their barbell and do pullups on. I really need it for my barbell in meso 3. Maybe even meso 2!!

Hottie, Travis is taking a 2D game programming class -- I gather it's like scratch but better (they charge for it). I can't remember the name of the s/w, but he really wants to have a copy at home. Little geek boy in the making......

Oh, and yeah, the midwest accent -- the Fargo thing -- that's exactly what Larry does and it just sort of drives me crazy when he gets into that mode. Really, Angie is not that bad at all -- she does talk a lot through it though. I guess I just liked her kbell workout better.

I am headed to SF tomorrow and getting really excited to be back in the city. Too bad it's going to be such a quick trip, but I only have so much time......

oh, Chris, we are having parallel dinner things..... the other night I was grilling and when I went out to check, the temp was down to like 50 degrees -- out of propane!!! I just finished it in the oven....... I'm grilling again tonight on the second tank -- hope that one doesn't run out!!
