Juicing For The Health Of It

Greetings EveryBODY :)

I just bought our first juicer, and can't wait to get started. I'm planning on using organic fruits and vegetables and gardening our own vegetables for harvest this summer.

Does anyone have experience in this area? I know of the health benefits but am concerned that it is so calorie rich that there might be potential for weight gain.

I would really appreciate your opinions.

Have a Great Exercise Day.

There are benefits to juices, such as the more rapid assimilation of nutrients by the body. But you're right about being concerned about drinking too many calories, IMO. It's much easier to drink a lot of calories than to eat a lot of calories because juices have no fiber to help regulate the appetite.

Get a good book on juicing that also shows the calories in each type of juice to help you make decisions about what type of juices to focus on, and what types to limit.

Some juices, like carrot and other sweet juices, are also rather high sugar. It's good to have some 'not-too-sweet" mineral-rich ingredients in your drinks, like cucumber, celery, parsley, and especially leaf lettuces (not iceburg!) and kale.

A good 'green drink" is to take a head of kale, a head of romaine, a whole lemon (organic!) and an apple and juice them. The lemon cuts the "green" taste of the drink, and the apple adds sweetness. It is also lower in calories than some other types of drinks.

Some people recommend not drinking some of the sweet juices 'straight,' but diluting them with water.

One mix I always used to like (but it's rather sweet!) is carrot, pineapple, winesap apple, sometimes with celery.
