Jogglers April 2012

I forgot to post?? wth?

Yesterday was a jog/hike + stretch max w/band, burn was 530 cal. Today, I'm doing a mish mosh: 20 min. of Taebo (lols!), 20 min. of Kathy Smith Time Saver Cardio; 50 min. Personal Training with Jackie: Power Circuit Training.; and then my Kathy Smith cool down (one of my favorites.) I just had a protein shake so I will wait another 15 minutes or so.

Here is next week's rotation (subject to change without notice :p)

Sunday: Mish mosh Buns of steel 6/Cathe's new LIC; Gary Bromley Yoga
Monday: Jog/Walk + Desi AM Yoga
Tuesday: Cardio Supersets + Belly Dancing
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: BM2 Cardio only premix; Shiva Rae Yoga
Friday: Shred it with Weights (Kettlebells) + Kathy Smith HI/Lo
Saturday: Rest

It is finally warm here. Its sunny. The flowers are in bloom (reminds me: I need to neti pot before I go out.) After my workout I will go into town for the Sacramento Orchid Society show. This evening my Mom and I are going to the Camelia Orchestra, a friend of ours plays cello with them and gave her tickets. I miss playing in orchestra, it was fun.

Tricia- Those Zombies sound like fun! Has peanut had any more phantom smells? Do you think zombies stink? How is the wine thing going?

Jane-That looks like a great workout. The most important thing I learned about sugar was that fake sweeteners cause more damage than the real thing because its the sweet flavor in your mouth that causes the insulin to be released and then you have the issue of the insulin floating around and driving your blood sugar down and ultimately leading to insulin resistance (which I had!). If I had only known that as a teen person I could have avoided a lot of weight gain. :(

Hi Alisha!

Wow! Nice calorie burn on your workout today! If I could burn that many daily, I wouldn't have to watch what I eat so strictly! lol

Your weeks' schedule looks intense! Lots of good yoga in there, too!

Glad it's finally warming up for you over there! My allergies have been horrendous this year! I can't remember the last season that had me this messed up! Rain is supposed to start tonight and I can't wait! Beat all that pollen down! The only bad thing is that it's supposed to be a torrential one into Monday. I don't mind a nice hard rain, but when it's really heavy, I get nervous. I'm never happy with the weather!

Enjoy the orchestra! I miss going to things like that.

Peanut has not had the phantom smell thing again. I hope she never does! Yikes, that was annoying! I have been getting them with my allergies a mess. All I smell is cigarette smoke. I've read that's a symptom of sinus issues. Who knew? I never had it until last year.

I'm giving the wine some time to settle. I stirred the lees up and put it in a warm place last weekend. It's still not at the right specific gravity, but I'm going to give it one more week, then I'm just going to go for it and keep my fingers crossed! It's only off by .002. They say that could keep it from clearing properly, but we shall see.

Have a terrific evening!

Almost forgot! Played golf today. It was beautiful out and we had a lot of fun!

rested instead

I was sore yesterday and took a rest day. My workout pants are in the dryer. I might want to eat a small snack before my workout. I will do my step workout from yesterday today. Its weird, I feel like life is good even though I'm between day jobs. Sometimes, I worry that I shouldn't feel good in spite of everything, but I figure thats the Cathe effect. :D I will get some yoga this afternoon. Tomorrow will be a joggle.

My mom accidentally killed my digital food scale. I will go out tomorrow to buy a new one. Its tragic because we really don't have money but I can't go without it. She was almost in tears because she was unco-ordinated and spilled water, and then my brother took it all apart to try to fix it, now its drying but I don't think there is hope for it because they took it apart without asking me (should have asked.) Mom was afraid to tell me (I wasn't mad at all, its totally replaceable.) so they tried to fix it, but I actually have some experience with electronics. If she wasn't sad it would have been funny I am secretly laughing cause its completely easy to spill water in a kitchen. I mean really, who designs a kitchen tool that can't tolerate a little water?

Tricia- Hug Peanut for me, I'm glad she hasn't had that weirdness again. A round of golf sounds like fun.

Jane- How was your weekend?

Alisha

Happy Monday!

I'm sorry I missed the weekend again. My weekends are so busy.

I did the following workout on Saturday.
4x 15 secs work/10 secs rest of Mountain Climbers
Then
3 Rounds of 10 reps of jumping pull ups
Then
3 Rounds of 10 reps of Swing Progression at 35#, 44# and 53#
Then
5x Round of 6 reps each of Dumbbell Complex
Bicep Curls
Rows
Upright Rows
Presses
Thrusters
Then
3 rounds of 100 jump rope

Sunday was a 8 mile run

Today will be an upper body workout that I am writing up. It will involve Rope Slams at least. It is still a work in progress.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you had a good day golfing. Every other year my allergies/sinuses give me real problems. Remember my bleeding ear last year? My sinuses also give me tooth aches. I didn't have these problems up north but I did get more colds so I guess I am better off down here.

Alisha ~ I like your workout schedule for this week. I really want to get the nutritionists take on "real" sugar versus the artificial stuff. She is having my mom test her glucose for the next week. I helped her with it on Saturday and Sunday. So far she is doing well. I don't think she had diabetes. She has already lost about 9 pounds on her no sugar diet. She still feels good and actually worked outside in the yard yesterday. She was so excited.

Jane- I'm so glad that your Mom is doing well. They say that getting off sugar is really effective for starving cancer cells. I have a cousin that works at the American Cancer Society and is a leukemia survivor. Rope slams sound like fun to me!

Tricia- Had a run in with any zombies today?

Last night I did my step mish mosh and then 25 min. of yoga. This morning, I went for a jog/walk this morning and then I did 10 min. of ab work from Jackie's Power Circuit. I plan to get some yoga this evening. Tomorrow will be a rest day because I have a seminar to attend. I'm looking forward to it. That reminds me, I need to cook food so I can bring my lunch.

Alisha

I took a rest day yesterday.

Today will be a 4 mile run.

Here was my workout from Monday. This was a good workout. The rope slams added some cardio to the mix.

2 rounds
15x seated halos
15x strict press
15x rear flys
15x push press
50 Rope Slams
15x bicep curls or triple crush
15x rows
15x renegade rows
50 Rope Slams
15x pull-ups
15x floor Press (Chest Press)
15x push-ups
50 Rope Slams
15x H2H Swings

Alisha ~ Enjoy your seminar today. What did you make for lunch?

Rope slams are lots of fun. It's a great cardio workout but also works the arms and abs.

Mom's sugar was elevated a little on Monday so I told her to get some exercise yesterday. She did and her sugar level was back down again. I hope this will get her exercising. Still she has had almost a month of feeling really good. I think this is the longest period she's gone through where she has felt really good. I believe is she going to work in the yard a little bit this morning.

Hi Tricia!

This morning I did a Salsa dvd and then Kathy Smith's Fat Burning workout. I also applied to Michael's. I'm feeling productive:cool: I'm planning on some low intensity yoga this evening.

Jane- That looks like a great workout! You know what, the main reason I started to exercise was to treat insulin resistance and I kept it up because it is better than SSRIs (like prozac) at treating depression. Just tell your Mom if she wants a smile on her face all she has to do is lace up some walking shoes. The cool part is that now I get my workout and I can have a little bit of cake or ice cream without blowing my blood sugar:D

Tricia- So, just what does a zombie look like anyway?

Sorry about missing so much ladies! Last night I realized I hadn't chatted in a while! Where do the days go?

Alisha - Sorry about your food scale, but I agree with you. Everything in a kitchen should be able to tolerate some liquids! lol

Jane - I'm so glad your mom is doing well! I'll be sending her some exercise vibes!

No Zombie runs lately. I started the Cathe LIS rotation finally! I did Afterburn on Tuesday and could barely move yesterday! Tonight was Cardio SuperSets. Loved that one! Stephen is bringing home Panera and I'm sticking to vegetarian at least. I'm hoping to get back to the running in the mornings starting next week, if it warms back up a bit. It's been really cold this week! Brrr!

Peanut got your hug,Alisha! Thank you! I'm still smelling cigarette smoke and it's driving me crazy!! Can't wait for that to stop! Never had that before last year unless someone was really smoking.

Sigh.

I got my water kefir grains I had ordered! The came in yesterday, but I need organic cane sugar and good mineral-rich water to start them. Have to wait until tomorrow. It's supposed to improve digestion and help increase your flora. They're loaded with probiotics, too. Hope I like it because it gets carbonated like soda and you can flavor it however you like! I'll let you know how that goes!

That's all my news for now!
Have a great night you two!

I missed yesterday. I just did a very light workout for about 30 minutes of abs, deadlifts, bicep curls, presses, and bear crawls.

I'm taking a rest today as I have a 10K race in the morning. My BIL is coming into town and since he is coming back from an injury he is going to pace me. He is a 9 minute miler and I am more of a 11 - 12 minute miler so we will see what happens. I don't think he has ran more than 3 miles and he has spent the last week or so traveling so I'm not sure what kind of shape he'll be in. He might be finishing behind me. Anyway I am looking forward to this race because it is in my town and I don't have to drive. Mom is coming to watch and the town is all festival and happy. :) There is a lot of support. The high school band is out at the 3.5 mile mark and there is a DJ that plays music and motivates you to get up our version of "heartbreak hill". It is a course I know well. I run a portion of it every week.

Alisha ~ I am hoping that will be the same with my mom. She does not want to be on another medication so maybe this is what she needs to push her to start walking. I wish I could be there in the mornings to get her walking but at least she has started to work outside again. I told her to walk her driveway and up and down her stairs at the front of the house.

Nice workouts yesterday.

Tricia ~ Give peanut a hug for me too. Hope you get to run next week. We had a couple of days of cool weather but we are back to 60s in the morning and high 80's during the day. No humidity yet though so it still is rather pleasant.

Have a great Friday!!

I plan on doing low max and then some yoga this afternoon. I have been cleaning out the garage all morning and I need a rest. Tomorrow will be a jog/walk.

Tricia- I like the Kefir I've purchased at the store. I liked in smoothies with strawberries. I like Panera's salads. Cardio Supersets is one of my favorites.

Jane- That sounds like a super fun race. I played 2nd trumpet in marching band in high school. Whats a 'bear crawl'? I know what a bear claw is, but I'm guessing its not nearly as good for the waist line:p

Alisha

Jane - How did your race go this morning? Hope you PR'd! :D Thanks for the hug for Peanut! She loves hugs!

Alisha - Hope you managed some relaxing yoga last night and got to go for your joggle!

I haven't worked out today and ended up missing last night. We didn't get off early (I know, hours are 9-5 and expecting to go early is silly), so I ran errands first. I had to go to 3 stores to find 8 cup mason jars, but didn't find a single plastic handheld strainer or a flexible, but strong plastic spatula to scrape coconut meat out of the young Thai coconuts. Ended up finding the jars at Michael's, but came out empty on the others. Have to hit the Job Lots or Dollar Store tomorrow. I need plastic for my kefir grains.

After all that, I still had to go to Whole Foods for the sugars I needed for my kefir and a few groceries. I ended up getting dinner there for us. Got Stephen some lasagna and I behaved and got a veggie blue plate special.

It's so cold here! I'm fighting the urge to turn the heat back on! Thermostat has just reached 65 in the house. It was 63 this morning. We have another 2 nights in the 30s, then we should start warming back up a little again, thank goodness! This is what I hate about spring! Up and down, up and down, warm and cold! Ugh! Anyway, my hands are like ice now. I've been working on the computer for about an hour while Stephen plays some Assassin's Creed. At this point, it's 5 p.m. now, I don't know if I'll get that workout in. Typically, if I don't don it by 3 p.m. on the weekends, it doesn't get done. I still have to go test my wine again. Can't believe it has cooled down so much too! Either way, I'm stabilizing it this weekend and putting in the clarifier. I'll just have to hope for the best at this point. It's been too long in the carboy.

Have a great afternoon you two!

I don't think a photo hike counts

Ok, so I guess I forgot to post. Sheesh.

Saturday was my jog/walk + Yoga with Desi. Sunday I went for a 3 mile photo hike at the Davis Arboretum. I'm leaning towards a Shiva Rae yoga day. I need to get out in the yard and do some weed eating. I'm a little tired from yesterday. I did about an hour of weed eating. I earned some blisters on my hands.

When I do a mish mosh I only do one warm up and one cool down. I'm not counting yesterday's miles as a workout, I didn't even work up a sweat.
Here is my tentative rotation for the week:

Sunday (yesterday): 3 miles photo hike
Monday: (today)Rest, Shiva Rae Beginner's Yoga (70 min.)
Tuesday: Salsa (40 min.); Shred it with Weights (20 min.) + Taebo (20 min.)
Wednesday: Jog/Walk + Cathe's Yoga Relax (short premix)
Thursday: LIC (original) cardio premix
Friday: Jog/Walk + Kathy Smith Yoga Basics
Saturday: Jillian Micheals No More Trouble Zones + Kathy Smith Fat Burning (Hi/Lo)

Tricia- If I haven't done my workout (or started) by 4 pm, it doesn't get done. I seem to lose energy and the idea of just standing up to go put on my workout clothes seems like too much  I hope you find those jars. You might try online if its just not available locally.

Jane- How was your race?

Alisha

Hi!

I'm sorry I missed the weekend again. I swear they go by so fast.

The race went well. I did not set a new PR but I did better than last year so at least I'm improving. My BIL stayed with me the whole race. There were times that he was bugging me with too much talking. I am used to running races by myself and I wonder if I would have done better on my own. He did push me at times especially at the end but he talked so much and of course I had to talk back even though I was trying not to. I told him that I may not answer him but then he kept asking me questions. Ugh!! Anyway it went well. I'm glad mom came too.

After the race, I went to mom's house and worked in her yard for 3 hours. Then had dinner with my BIL and that was it.

On Sunday I did swings mixed in with running. So it was 100 swings, 400m run, 80 swings, 400m run, etc. down to 20. Then I wash my car because it had tons of mashed love bugs on it and some bird poop. Birds must know what new car look like.

Today will be a mainly upper body workout with some squats mixed in. It is still a work in progress.

Alisha ~ A bear crawl is where put your hands on the ground and walk like a bear. Your knees are off the ground as well. It's not very attractive but it is better on the waistline than a bear claw.

Nice workouts you have planned for the week. Love seeing Taebo in the mix.

Tricia ~ I hope it's gotten warmer by you. We are in the high 80's now and the a/c is cranked. I hope to go swimming tomorrow night. Humidity is still low so that is nice.

Jane- I love the taebo. It cracks me up but it also seems to help my tushie. I don't think I would want to talk during a race. Birds always know what new car looks like! I think they don't like the shiny surface and 'fix' it.:p Once upon a time when I was working in a theme park, one tagged my head. Of course, I had to just wipe it out with a paper towel, I couldn't just leave.

I missed yesterday's yoga. I had some blisters from the weed eating. So, I have now purchased some gloves. I hope that takes care of it. I might tape up.

Tricia- How is the coconut and kefir saga coming along? Is the wine making working properly? How is Peanut? Did you get a workout?

Alisha
