Jazzercise

Hey ladies...this question is just out of curiosity.

Several years ago...I'd say about 10 years back...I took a Jazzercise class that was being run local to my home 2 x per week for over a solid year. I LOVED it! It was the ONLY time I stuck with a program that was not home-based.

I only left because the original instructor left to have a baby and shortly after a new one took over they stopped holding the classes so close to me.

A few years later I tried another class a couple towns away but did not like the instructor so I didn't go back.

So my question is has anyone else tried it and what did they think of it?

I haven't done Jazzercise in years - literally like 15, but I used to really enjoy it. We have 2 in town, but it's just so expensive that I can't justify it. I know they've got lots a good classes - I work with a girl who is a part time instructor at one of them - but I'd rather workout at home in private without paying an arm & a leg for it. :D

i have never done jazzercise but i am a major dancer in country western, ballroom, swing, latin, and some line dancing. i have been there for over 5 years and will continue as long as i can. its a great way to meet people. i wish i had started earlier.

I justified it because I really enjoyed it and I actually stuck with it! :)

I have joined atleast 3 gyms in my life and didn't go to any of them for more than 3 months on a full years membership...what a waste.

But now that I have been an avid home exerciser for almost 3 years now I am hard pressed to ever join a gym or take any kind of fitness class again.

I went to 2 Jazzercise classes last year and did not like them at all, and they were very easy. I actually prefer Jacki Sorenson's aerobic classes (which I used to teach), but there are no classes offered in my town, so I decided to try Jazzercise. I went to 2 separate classes to see how the instructors were. The workouts were so repetitive that I actually wanted to stop, but I would never do that in a live class. I asked if all classes were choreographed that way and both instructors said they were. Each song literally had only like 4 separate type movements which you repeated throughout the entire song. It drove me crazy. The instructors looked terrible. One instructor was a little overweight and I know she has been teaching for over 15 years as she taught at the same time I did. The other instructor while thin was very soft. No muscles whatsoever and she taught the sculpting class. Go figure.

On a positive note, the music was excellent and it was so much fun to be in a group/class setting again. Both instructions actually asked me if I would like to teach for them as I caught on so quickly and had no problems. I told them that what I normally do at home is much more advanced than what they teach. I literally had to add power to everything to get a good workout. The lady behind me couldn't believe how well I did, and of course I had to tell her about Cathe. :)

Hi Kelley-

When I was going to Jazzercise I was hardly advanced...I may not have even been intermediate. lol I did great with it but it definatley wasn't TOO EASY. My instructor looked fabulous too!

When I tried to go back to it a few years later, it just wasn't the same...I blamed it on the instructor at the time but who knows what it really was...

Sorry you didn't like it but then again, I don't think it's meant for the advanced...there certainly were no Cathe's in MY jazzercise class! lol ;-)

After working out with Cathe, I'm sure a Jazzercise class today would be a big let down for me as well...
