Did you see the news? 8.9 earthquake with aftershocks as strong at 7.1!!! I feel so bad for them. There's nothing to prevent that from happening, either. Last I read the are having trouble with cooling at 2 of their 4 nuclear plants as well. Something was damaged. Right now they say there are no leaks, but how horrifying for everyone who lives there. There is a tsunami on it's way to Hawaii as well, and my brother lives in Hawaii, so I am concerned for him.

What awful news to wake up to!

I heard about this on the way to work this morning. How sad and scarey.

They last reported (that I heard) a 5 foot wave moving rapidly towards Hawaii. I know of 2 people who live there (one is a Cathlete!) and I am concerned as well. I hope everyone stays safe.

They are also concerned about parts of coastal California. :(

So much seismic activity in that area lately. First Australia and New Zealand, then China, now Japan. Very concerning...

I've been watching TV in order to get updates on the disaster.

I feel so horrible that they have to go through this.

My heart goes out to them!

I was in the Loma Prieta earthquake wayyyy back when in Northern CA. (the World Series earthquake). That one was big and seemed to last forever... I can't even imagine how this must have felt. My sister used to live in Japan - they were evacuated after many days of denial by the Japanese government about the same nuclear plants "not really" leaking after a moderately big earthquake.

I pray for all of those families and for their recovery.

What is frightening and tragic is the fact that we probably have no idea to what extent this disaster has done in terms of damage. It is only a matter of time before we discover how many lives this earthquake/tsunami has really taken.

In addition, I think we should all be worried about the nuclear problems going on over there. I've heard some say that this could potentially become another Chernobyl.
