Cathlete
Getting us started this morning! It's a slow start here... VERY cold out there!!

Hi All! I'm sorry for everyone who's cold right now -- I have a sort of guilt about the crazy good weather we are having now. I do hope we have a month of rain in February, Hottie. We need it, and to be honest, I like the stormy weather too.

I did CLX burn intervals this morning. It's a fun workout, but it just doesn't seem as tough as what Cathe would dish out -- know what I mean, Joanne? Oh well -- it got me going. I really was excited to do it again this week.

I feel kind of out of touch with you guys -- I think everyone's been a little busy, maybe. Joanne, how are things going with your parents?

Thursdays are my crazy busy days so I probably won't be around too much. Hope you all have a nice day and the weather isn't too bad!!

-Beth

Hey Beth!

And everyone who drops in today too!
dancegirl2.gif

I just got done with my "45 minutes of Cardio". Didn't feel "Drill Max premix" in me, so I did Turbo Jam's Kickin Core workout and then added in the floorwork abs from Ab Jam. Let me just say, my abs are "done".

Beth: You guys in CA sure have your share of weather issues (droughts and fires), so I guess we'll let you have nice weather! I would also think that it might get monotonous. For a little bit, i don't mind the excuse to stay in , huddle under blankets and cook comforting warm meals , teas and hot cocoa!

. The Burn Intervals sound like a goodie! Is it not as long as a Cathe workout? Sometimes I think it's the length of Cathe's that make them more intense. You and Joanne made me  about Burn Circuit 2 yesterday!! Do you have DOMS today from it?

Joanne: FF's weight work IS super tough in this rotation. She puts just enough in for me to just about reach failure every time. I hadn't been doing that in the past. Hope you and your family are keeping warm there too!!

Hottie: 4DS BC *is* hard! Some moves I just can NOT do and really push my HR up there. One is the alternating feet going up and down the step. I can do maybe one or 2, and then I just stay on the back end. It's amazing that 30 minutes can be that intense! Holy moly on you losing 8.5 inches off your waist!! That is AMAZING!! THAT must feel awesome!! ... thanks for the recomendation for Yoga massage. I'm not really too keen on a 'stranger' touching me, if you know what I mean. It kind of creeps me out! LOL! But it SOUNDS nice! Maybe a good roller would be a good thing... Doesn't someone here have a roller they use to stretch?

So I have to psych myself up for getting bundled up and going out for groceries. It was bad enough waiting at the busstop with the boys this morning!!! I like the idea of hibernating better!

BBL!!

P.S. I asked the other day if anyone has a Step Boxing video and what they think of it. It was late, so maybe you guys missed it. Does anyone know about it and what would they recommend? Thanks!

You guys won't believe what happened last night. I tell my husband that I want to leave an hour earlier than originally planned (since we usually carpool, I pick him up at work) because I was so super productive at work, I wanted to start at home. So, I was going to get home early, prep dinner, stick it in the oven, do 4DS LIS, pull dinner out of the oven, Joe would get home, we'd eat, he'd workout and then I would do car errands, specifically filling up the tank. I get home...not a volt of electricity in my apartment. AND ONLY MY APARTMENT. The landlady was like, did you pay your bill? (I actually wasn't too offended by that, but I always pay my bill!) Kept on flicking switches, nothing. Have to wait ~3hrs before the Power Department sends out a guy to flick a switch I don't have access to before I get anything. I can't leave because I'm worried if they guy needs to come into the house. I took a shower in the dark with a flash light on. I managed to talk to my mother on my cell phone (because our landline are all electric cordless phones..we do have a corded one someplace but my husband moved it and I couldn't find it in the dark), because get this: I could still get power from the outlet on the rooftop sundeck we have access to! Needless to say, I was super grumpy and it screwed up everything I wanted to do last night. And you know what's even more annoying? The power turns on right as Joe walks up the steps to the apartment building! So, he didn't have to deal with any of the crap! I am glad that I got to call him though so he could at least stay at work longer before getting on the bus so we both didn't have to be grumpy in the cold, dark apartment.

I *did* end up doing LIS in its entirety because I wasn't going to let momentum crusher stop me! DH did shoulders and calves and core work with me too. It was cute because we basically handed our dumbbells to each other as we went up the pyramid. But yesterday's KB class clearly has affected my quads...they are KILLING me right now. Hopefully, walking around and some blood flow will help!

My hope is to drop by the preview Muscle Conditioning class today at the school gym. If my quads are doing better by the evening, DH and I will do 4DS Kickbox in its entirety. If I can't move, I'll just probably double up Friday evening. I really like doing all this weight work this week. Even though I am reminded how weak I've gotten from not having a consistent discpline about weight work, I feel like I'm taking the right steps to incorporating it back into my routine.

Beth -- then I hope you guys get that rain! It's sad, both Joe and I actually love the rain (he's from the midwest and I'm from the east coast), but we really don't care for it in LA. It's mostly the drivers but the town isn't really built for it either. Hope your Thursday isn't too crazy. Its good to know about the other workouts compared to Cathe, btw! I'm going to start a netflix trial in the next day or two and I was thinking about putting some of the workouts you guys talk about on the queue.

Chris -- Sounds like you had a great workout! I still am trying to improve my core workouts. I'm doing more but its still like, how can my abs be so out of shape!?!? You know what's weird about the fast feet/straddle taps in 4DS BC? I can do the travel up and down the step but I have a hard time transitioning to the back! I have to same problem in HSC too. Joe, who never seems to get Cathe on the first try, got it immediately! The 8.5 inches does make me feel good though I wonder if I'm taking my absolute worst and subtracting from my absolute best so far. Oh well, it's something! I felt a little down yesterday because being in that studio with all their huge mirrors around and a bunch of cute undergrads, made me feel super chunky for a bit. I probably want to lose another 10-20lbs to get to that comfortable "look" which is a fine goal, but sometimes I'm like, wow...I managed to pack on ~65lbs that I didn't need??? What's wrong with me!?!? (And I don't have babies as an excuse!) But then I try to stop the downward spiral and focus on the positive's like trying to be healthy and changing my lifestyle etc etc. Oh, and the weather out is here IS monotonous...until you go back to a state where they just got 20 inches of snow or has freakishly high humidity. Then, I love that monotony. :)

Joanne -- how is your father doing? Is your mother taking everything ok? I imagine you did something CLX-y. How was it?

Waves to Vilma, Kathy, and Ivy!

It's quiet here at work so a quick check of the forums for me! So much to reply to.

Chris, it may be that the workout is shorter (45 min.), but, I'm not sure. I'm so glad you asked about the hurl factor, because doing CLX is the first time I've ever felt like I wanted to puke from doing weight work. It's so strange because it just doesn't feel like it's *that* hard! And funny you asked about doms -- no! Not at all. My hamstrings have been sore since I started, but more a tight feeling than doms. And it's me with the foam roller. I was having an awful time with my hamstrings/glutes when I started doing more cathe workouts all the time, and I had to do something! Someone recommended the foam roller and I've found it really helps. I'm not good about using it on a regular basis, but when I feel it more, I do it, and it definitely helps.

Straddle taps -- I can do them, but they're in slow-motion compared to Cathe and crew!!

Hottie, crazy about the power -- did they ever tell you why? That's so annoying -- it's amazing how dark things can be even in the daytime!

Yes, the weather gets monotonous! It's even more so in San Francisco, but there you just expect it, so you kind of forget about it. Where we live now we actually have some seasons, and both Larry and I love that (it's just not as intense as the seasons you get!).

Back to work!!

-Beth

Hi ladies!!

Hottie, how frustrating!! Good for you for getting in your workout despite the calamities! Don't get yourself down about gaining the weight, congratulate yourself for taking it off! That's a huge accomplishment!

Chris, I forgot you had asked about a stepboxing video. Kelly Coffey Meyers has two. They might be at collagevideo.com. She also has a website: www.coffeyfit.com. I can't remember the names - I think they are just called "StepBoxing". The first one is shorter, but she moves really, really fast. It's a good workout, but I'm worried I'm going to trip over myself. The second one is longer and a more normal pace. I love that one. It does take a few times to get the choreo - it's not super tough, but she doesn't always cue that great and she goes right into the moves without alot of breakdown. But once you do it a few times, you appreciate that it's not broken down so much. I'm like you - I don't feel comfortable getting a massage 'cause it would be a stranger doing it. DH has suggested I get one a few times and I'm like, ew, no!! I'm sure it feels great, though.

Beth, don't feel bad about your weather! Enjoy it for us who are popsicles! I felt the same way about Burn Intervals. Good, but not as tough as Cathe. I forget who asked, but it was about 45 minutes. There were a few cardios that were pretty tough, though. I'm definitely feeling something today - don't know if it's left over from BC1 or new from BC2! I did get the 7th DVD, so next week I'm going to sub in those cardios.

My parents are doing OK. My dad now has some kind of bacterial infection that has left him even weaker. He's being treated for it, so we're hoping he's at least back to where he was when he goes home on the 22nd. My mom has a caregiver coming for 7 days a week, 4 hours. She's hoping to be able to cut out some of the hours. I told her let's just see how it goes, take it one day at a time. My dad is really excited to come home, though.

Last night was interesting dinner conversation. Ian, who is 11, told us that the school nurse came into their class and told them all that they stink and needed to shower everyday and wear deodorant. Now, I'm sure it was much more subtle than that, but that was Ian's version. ;) I had deodorant for them, but no one was using it, and honestly, they're not there yet, I haven't seen a need for it for them. But now, they all want their own - NO, we can't share one! So, that was our lovely dinner conversation!

Yep, it's cold here. About 10 below this morning! I had so many layers on I was almost sweating on my mile walk from the train to work. The school called last night with an automated message that the schools would be closed last night. The kids were thrilled. DH, not so much! He sleeps during the day - today, not so much! So, this morning, I'm working out and the phone rings. It's Ian's teacher telling us school was closed. OK. I start the workout back up and it rings again. Caitlyn's teacher. She called during the burpees, so I didn't rewind and do them over! ;)

Gotta run...

Joanne

Oh yes, forgot about the stepboxing question..... it's so funny you ask about this because I just this week did a trade on vf for a KCM stepbox dvd. I'm not sure which one it is -- haven't got it yet. I'll let you know -- from what Joanne said, I hope it's the second one! :)

Joanne, too funny about the deodorant! I know they are having that stinky issue in my older son's class (he's in 4th grade). Even last year, toward the end of the year when I went in there -- phewwwy ! it was stinky. I haven't noticed Travis having a problem with it yet. To be honest, I think it may have been some of the girls!

Let me know how you like the bonus dvd! So far I've been telling myself I don't need it, and really, I don't. :)

Hi ladies..

Checking in today with Drill Max..Yesterday was a rest day. It was a crazy, busy day. I took my sister and niece back to the airport and then we had to get over to CCD at church. I had no time to squeeze in a workout. So, rest day.. I am missing my niece something awful though. She is the sweetest baby ever!!!

Oh it is cold here too...Brrrrr!!!

Talk to you later!!
