I've been bitten....

Cathlete
...by the running bug that is :7! You know, I kind of thought you all were crazy but I guess I can count myself in the crazy bunch.

You see, this summer, my motivation and diet had been faltering and I was not too happy with myself. I decided to join the RT folks for Cathe's Friday step class. It was so, so incredibly motivating and talking with Cathe, one on one afterward, was exactly the kick in the a$$ that I needed! Since that day I kicked the diet and workouts into a whole other gear. I also added running to my rotations twice a week starting the following week.

Well, my neighbor convinced me to run a little 5k with her this past weekend. My only goal was to not make a fool of myself. Well, I was first in my age group (25:25)! Unfortunately, it wasn't the biggest field but man, oh man, did I have a blast! I can't wait for the 8k in late October. I think I'll have to start pestering the Cheetah ladies to let me join their group }( :+.

Anyway, long story short, I know it wasn't the few weeks of running that allowed me to accomplish this little goal in such a short period of time. I have to give credit where credit is due...and it's all due to Cathe! If it weren't for her workouts I NEVER would have even thought that I could finish a 5k, let alone enjoy it so much. I think I may have a new passion...

Wendi...1ST in your age group!!!!.....wow....http://bestsmileys.com/signs16/19.gif[/img] I am so happy to know the running bug bit you...:)...I will agree that Cathe helped a lot...Good luck in the upcoming 8K. And I can't wait to talk to you more in the Cheetah check-in...http://www.emotihost.com/glass13/22.gif[/img]

Oh, thanks guys! BTW, Carole I MUST find out where you all get those adorable smilies :7.

Phyllis - Hi there! Yup, all outside, around the area I live, which is VERY hilly. I really don't think I could take it on a treadmill...boring! BTW, I know your situation at work sucks right now but, if you're available, I'm trying to aim for another live class Sept 28th, Oct 5, or Oct 12...care to join me? I'd love to catch up with you.

Have a good night,

Hey Wendi!!! Great to see you! How are you?

I am glad to see you have been bitten by the running bug! It is addictive. The iTread workouts are great for the treadmill and have really helped me to increase my speed. Also, they make running ont the treadmill fun and not boring at all! I am also doing HIIT work, which seems to be helping as well. For an 8 mile run I did the other day, my pace was about 8:15 a mile-that's really good for me!

About the smileys...I get mine form www.smileycentral.com. I know people also use www.bestsmileys.com.

Anyway, welcome to the incredibly addictive world of running!!!

Yay for you Wendi! I almost wish I liked to run so I could join the Cheetah's. All the one's I met at the road trip were amazing.

Wendi, I use a program called GetSmile and it lets you add any smiley to the program. So I collect them from all over...:)

Hi Wendi! Awesome job on your 5k!!! That's a really impressive time for your first race:eek:  I'd like to join Carole in really encouraging you to join us at the Cheetah check in! It will really help to keep you motivated.
Congratulations!!
I was at that Friday step class, it was terrific wasn't it? Susan (aka Singing Goddess) was also there, another fabulous Cheetah!

Wendi, Congrats from another Cheetah on placing 1st in your 5K. Great job! Feel free to join us on the check-in.

You just started running and you ran your first 5K in 25:25? WOW! I bow down before you. Well done and welcome to the wonderful addiction that is running:)

I agree, that is a really remarkable time, especially for just beginning running. Sadly, I can't run a 5K that fast yet, but one day... :)

OMG, thank you so much you guys! Again, I wouldn't have been able to do it if Cathe hadn't whooped my arse into such good shape!

Now that I'm all pumped to run you would NEVER believe what happened today. This past Sunday one of the young horses deposited me rather hard. Okay, sore shoulder, rib cage, neck, etc., nothing new. I'm reaching to put a bridle on a young sale horse today for some potential buyers and I feel this sharp "POP" in my rib cage followed by a sharp, excruciating pain. I didn't let on to anyone until after I got off the horse (who was absolutely wonderful and made a very good impression). Well, luckily there's nothing broken but I did seperate the rib from the cartilage...YEEOUCH! Sooooo, I don't think I'll be running for a little bit ;( ;( ;( !

I'll still stop in and say at the check-in tomorrow. I have no doctor imposed limitations so I'll try to do as much workout-wise as I'm comfortable doing.

Take care everyone!

Yeah, but you've got a HM under your belt, Kristi. I can't even imagine that one yet!
