Ivanko Aerobic Bar plates vs. Troy Lite Bar

I recently purchased the Ivanko Bar with the Rubimo rubberized plates, but was also thinking of adding the Troy Lite Bar to my collection. Anyone know whether the Ivanko plates are interchangeable with the Troy? I would hate to have to purchase duplicate plates to fit.
Thanks for your help.

I was just curious what is the difference between the Ivanko Bar and the Troy Lite Bar? And do the prices that people quote include plates with the bar? If not how much did you spend on the whole thing plates and bar together? I was thinking of getting one of these bars :)

Thanks,

Alison

Plate size...

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-01 AT 09:19PM (Est)[p]Jeann, plate size is pretty standard and you either have the 1" hole or Olymipic size..with the much larger hole(which the aerobic and lighter bars don't use).

I would bet my life it's the same size hole, but you should be able to ease your mind by calling the place you are going to purchase them from and ask if they have the standard 1" hole.

RE: Plate size...

Nancy, thank you for responding. You are correct, the Rubimo plates are a standard 1" and I do believe the Troy Lite Bar will accommodate the 1" plates, however I will take your advice and give them a call to be safe. Thanks again.

Alison, regarding comparisons and pricing between the two bars, the Ivanko Aerobic Bar is 44" long and weighs 10 lbs. It has a neoprene foam padded sleeve along most of it's length, which is what attracted me to it initially. I was not able to find a Barbell set with plates, so I purchased them individually from a fitness store in my area. I believe they purchased it directly from Ivanko. With the bar, spring collars and 1 1/4 lb plates thru 10 lb. plates, I paid $77.00 without shipping.
The Troy Lite Bar is 5' long and weighs 5 lbs.
I believe the Troy Lite Bar can be purchased on fitness1st.com. It can be purchased alone ($17.50?) or as a set with plates and collars (49.00ish??)
I would like to add that I do like the Ivanko Aerobic Bar, but in a few exercises, gripping the foam covered area has caused some forearm discomfort. It seems to be when I am leaning over from the waist as in Deadlifts and Rows. It's great for squats etc. with the foam cover.
I was thinking of purchasing the Troy to compensate for the uncomfortable exercises, but I don't want to have to purchase duplicate plates.
Hope this helps your decision.

RE: Plate size...

Hi Wienie,
I wanted to mention that I saw in one catalog a bar for Olympic size plates (2" hole) and the bar itself was really thick. The catalog said it was purposefully that thick to ensure forearm development.

I just got my Troy Lite set delivered yesterday (yep, standard 1" plates) and tried it out last night with Power Hour, it'll take some getting used to. Until last night I was using a Body Bar (which I'm sure I will continue to use for some things) but I noticed I had gotten just a little bit of forearm definition and I hadn't even been trying for that, not that I don't like it. It's kind of neat because when I pull my hand back you can see a meaty little muscle pop up, but no bulk at all of course. I never even considered that it was from using a thick bar until I read that in the catalog but apparently a thick bar is good for that. The catalog said that it's because the thickness makes you have to really grip the bar, whereas with dumbbells you're supposed to be able to 'hold on loosely but don't let go'.

By the way, from what store did you purchase your Ivanko bar? When I looked at the Firm site, it wasn't there. When I looked at the Ivanko site, it wasn't there either. I think I'll be really happy with my Troy Lite but I was just curious. If it doesn't cost too much, I might consider purchasing the Ivanko bar (without plates) and just use it for leg work and 'nut crackers' because I'm not using all of my Troy Lite plates that came with the set. Might as well throw those extra (for now) plates on a padded bar and have some variety.

One more thing, you can actually buy the rubberized Troy plates from the Troy website (as well as fitness1st.com), just not the Troy Lite set.

RE: Plate size...

Brinley, I know what you mean about the Body Bar, that's what I was using prior to getting the Ivanko Aerobic Bar. I never had the forearm problem with the body bar, but I think it's because I have more weight loaded on the barbell than the Body bar had.

I purchased the Ivanko through Magnum Fitness in Milwaukee WI. I believe the bar cost roughly $25.00. When I as researching this, I was able to find it on paragonsports.com. You might want to check that site out.

Because I had already purchased the Ivanko rubberized plates, I really didn't want to have to purchase the Troy's. I just wanted to make sure the Ivanko plates would work on the Troy Lite bar.
Thanks for everyone's help.
