It's so wrong...protein powder rant...

I bought pretty expensive protein powder that I had been using for a while....
It was almost gone when I went food shopping last week and I didn't feel like spending the money on replacing it around the holidays so I picked up a jug of it at the foodstore for about 1/4 of the price. I am drinking the "cheap stuff" right now and it tastes BETTER then the stuff I paid 4x as much for! What's up with that!?

I guess it's a good thing though as I can save myself a bunch of money from now on! :D

I don't know, I guess the question is going be what's in it? Some protein powders are made with very cheap ingredients and you might as well flush the money down the drain because it is useless and sometimes outright unhealthy.

That's not to say that the more expensive the protein powder is alwyas the better.

ITA!
You have to be careful and buy from a reputable source. I've read some do not contain the protein amount the label claims.

Ofcourse I understand your point, ladies but it still ticks me off that the cheap stuff tastes better!!!! :p

I am glad you found one that tastes good, Wendy. It's quite rare. In fact, until I found the one I am using now, I thought protein powder is supposed to taste like wallpaper paste - YUCK!!! :p

The only way I can truly enjoy a protein shake is if I make it into a fruit smoothie.
Frozen pineapples, bananas, and strawberries can make anything taste better. :p

I thought a part of the draw to the more expensive powders was the taste though??

Carola, What powder are you using now if you don't mind my asking? I could use suggestions!

ROTFLMBO at the wallpaper paste comment!:D

I use Jay Robb, both the egg white protein and whey protein. I am kind of boring, I love vanilla. DH's favorites are tropical dreamsicle and pina colada. I like both of them on occasion but they are almost too sweet for me, but I am odd, I don't like any sweetener or sugar in my tea or coffee either  Jay Robb protein powders are sweetened with stevia but it is not overpowering.

I know the vitaminshoppe.com used to sell it at a reasonable price but now my local Fry's grocery store caries it. I am sure there are some online retailers who offer better deals. HTH

I love adding pb and bananas to a chocolate protein shake. I used to do the all fruit thing but got tired of it. On the other hand, I don't think I'll EVER get tired of peanutbutter!;)

Taste shouldn't be the most important factor in a protein powder.
Cheap ingredients and sweeteners and artificial flavors can make something less healthy taste better than something healthy.

I just finished a glass of Nitrofusion protein powder, which is very nutritious, but has an odd, fine-sand-grit texture (though the taste--if you can separate it from the texture---is good).

I agree. if it tastes like garbage drink it anyway!

LMAO! :D:D:D

Well I looked up Jay Robb and can't find a deal on it anywhere so I guess I'll just bite the bullet and give it a shot for the price they are asking and take it from there.
