Is this normal for a seven year old??

So, I noticed today that my seven year old son is getting little blond hair on his legs and forearms already!! Is this normal?? It seems VERY young for him to start sprouting hair already before puberty. Anybody had this happen or is this normal?? Keep in mind he has been on and off of oral steroids for several years due to allergies and asthma.... could this cause it?!?! Should I be worried??

Thanks.
Pam

I think it's normal. My 8 year old also is getting some hair on his legs. And he also has had to start using deodorant. I think that we just notice these things earlier than our parents did. :)

totally normal.

i HAD to shave my legs at 8 and it looks like my 8yo dd might need to soon too.

its so bittersweet to see signs of them growing up, isn't it?

If it concerns you ask your doctor. I think that is the best thing to do at least for your peace of mind.

Hi gals,

Thanks again for the peace of mind!! It's just soo weird to see my little boy turning into a little man!!

Thankfully his asthma is controlled for the most part. I know there is a lot of controvery in some circles about giving kids oral and inhaled steroids, but it's better than him not being able to breath!! We are very blessed that he doesn't need a daily asthma controller (yet). It just flares when he gets sick.

So, back to the growing thing, he already has stinky feet which makes me wonder how gross he's gonna smell as a tween and teenager!:p

You gals are great!

Hi Pam! I think this is pretty normal. My son started with this around 8 years old. Isn't it cute to observe how concerned we get over these things? I called the pediatrician last week after discovering/plucking a gray hair from my 10 year old's head. I was concerned he wasn't absorbing his vitamins or something. They said this is normal and some kids even have a gray hairs here and there earlier than that. Its a genetics thing. They did however say that hair loss would be a reason for concern. Thankfully he doesn't have that.

My 9 year old is already using deoderant. He takes Taekwondo 4 times a week, . . I love him more than anything but I won't get close enough to smell his feet.

Thanks, Cathe!! A gray hair? Wow! If I plucked all the gray hairs from my head, I'd be bald in front!!  I'm glad this is normal and it is pretty funny how we Mom's get weirded out about silly stuff sometimes!! But, I think it just shows how much we love our kids!:D

Oh and Janie1234, yeah, I quit going near my son's feet when I almost fell over after he took his shoes off!:eek:I have to buy new shoes quite frequently to try and relieve this but holy cow kids shoes are expensive these days!! Not the $2.99 k-mart, blue-light-special shoes we used to get growing up! :p

Have a super Tuesday!

Pam
