"Is my bloodwork better or worse this year?"

mamads

Cathlete
I had my bloodwork done the other day and compared it to last year. Can any of you tell me if it's better or worse than last year? I am 64 years old and weigh 119#. I'v tried to clean up my eating and I exercise 3 times a week for 1:45 min doing step, weights, pilates, etc.

2006 Total Chos. 170, Triglycerides 69, HDL 52, LDL 104
2007 Total Chos. 167, Triglycerides 57, HDL 48, LDL 108

This is all greek to me but I thought my HDL should be higher with all the exercising I do.
I appreciate any input.

Thanks, Darlene

Darlene, I'm a lab tech, but my specialty is microbiology, not chemistry, so I'm in no way an expert. That said, if I was looking at your results, I have to say they are essentially the same as last year.

RE:

Robin, thank you. I was trying so hard for them to be better this year so I was disappointed but I'll just have to keep trying. Do you think they are pretty good for not being on any cholesterol medicine? Darlene

RE:

The goals are for your total cholesterol to be below 200 and your LDL/HDL ratio to be below 4. Your ratio is 2.25. Your numbers look just fine!

RE:

Jessica, thank you for your input. I didn't know about the ratio so I'm glad to see mine is where it is. Darlene

Darlene,

I'm no doctor, but I watch my numbers pretty closely and I must say that for your age (or any age) and no medication your overall cholesterol is FABULOUS, your ratio is AMAZING and your triglycerides ROCK!!! Have you taken this to your doctor or did you just go to a local blood draw (we have a company that offers them around town monthly)? If not you should take this info to your doctor because I bet you will get a big pat on the back for your efforts! Keep up the good work.

Hey, I like your answer :) . I had my bloodwork done at my doctor's office but they mailed the results to me so I didn't get to talk to her about it. Thanks, Darlene
