Is it the darker mornings that are making drivers bigger jerks these days?

I don't know what's going on this week, but the drivers that have been out while I'm on my morning runs have been real idiots! I live in the town, not the village, so I have no sidewalks. I run way over on the shoulder, and when cars are coming and not giving me an obvious wide berth, I'll move into the grass a few feet.

I had some woman in a van come SO close to sideswiping me the other morning, I could've punched her side panel. I settled for flipping her off.

Yesterday was one of those "move to the grass" instances and I got a horn blared at me. No WAY that guy couldn't see me at least 50 yards in advance because #1) my dog wears a very bright headlight on his collar and #2) I wear reflective clothes. And I WAS IN THE GRASS, SO WHAT DOES IT MATTER? I flipped him off too.

This morning was the worst. Guy actually crossed over the white line onto the shoulder and nearly hit me. I flipped him off with both hands.

Are they out to get me because I'm up enjoying the morning while they're grumbling along? I always pick up my dog's poo, so that can't be it. They did have a house in their neighborhood busted as a meth lab a week ago.... maybe they're on withdrawal from the fumes?

Anyway, I hate flipping people off that early in the morning. It's bad for the soul. Maybe I should just smile because I know they're miserable and I'm loving the morning.

Up here in New England, they're like that all the time for no reason whatsoever! I think it must be genetic. I would say it was something in the water, but I drink it, too, and I'm not like that! Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with that on my early morning runs!

You be very careful out there!

Tomorrow I'm taking a bat and will smash their windows. Lol.... Just kidding. Could you imagine?

Umm yeah... I would definitely stop flipping people off! Seriously! You don't know how people are going to react, and you're out there by yourself on foot.

I know what you mean though... drivers can be so inconsiderate. I don't have the problems you mention, but I do experience drivers that speed by me without slowing down a bit, and not even moving over just a little. It's like they think I shouldn't be out on the road because I'm on foot.

Be careful!

I shudder to think what would happen if they stopped to mess with me after I flipped them off. My Aussie is very protective. Actually, I think just his bark would make them think twice.

I wouldn't bank on being protected by a dog.

But that's just me.

Like I said, you need to be careful.

ITA!
A dog isn't much protection against an unstable person with a gun, or someone who decides to drive back and try to hit you.

Yes! Those were my thoughts exactly!

I just wouldn't be out there by myself on foot, purposely antagonizing strangers by flipping them off.... no matter what they do to deserve it.

Just a word of caution for safety's sake. :)

Ok, I'm not banking on it, I'm just not worried about it. Its not that type of neighborhood. I'm actually more afraid that someone would stop and get bitten. I don't need that drama. Anyway, it was a good morning today. No honks, no people driving too close. I stopped at the runner's store on the way home from work today and got myself a light to clip on my jacket. I'll put it on flash when I go down that road. Both of us will be all lit up then.

Do you own a taser? That might be easier to carry than a bat! Much more useful if someone decides to stop and get out of their car!

Lol! You all would see how amusing this is if you saw where I live.

I'm glad you find it amusing.

I live in a nice, safe place too. The idea of someone bothering me is just absurd. HOWEVER, there is no way you can predict the behavior of others. You just can't. To laugh and assume that you are safe no matter what, is dangerous. You should always be aware of your surroundings and be careful in situations that could be unsafe. That's just good common sense and self preservation.

You've already admitted that the drivers are "jerks" and are "almost sideswiping you" and "blaring the horn" at you. That's not kind, friendly behavior no matter where you live.
