Is anybody else worried about our food chain?

FDA does not have enough man power to check shipments, especially ingredients from other countries. That is so disturbing to me. Only 1% (from what I understand) of the shipments are checked. We seem to be very vulnerable. At least I grow some of my food. And I make my own dog food for my Molly. Our cats won't touch theirs. I can't grow much, but I can go over the mountains to a farming community to purchase things for canning if need be.

Be careful with processed foods everyone.

We might be doomed yet. Global warming, tainted food chain. What is the world coming to? What can be done? I don't want to just ignore it.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

I hear you, Janie. I don't think there is anything completely safe 100 % of the time. I try to buy mostly locally grown, organic food, growing my own hasn't worked well for me, I probably get a cactus to die :)

I do think as consumers we have a lot of power, when companies see their profit fading away, they will change their way, it just has to be enough people to do it, for the companies to notice. Money talks!

I don't think it is all doom and gloom yet, I think each and every one of us can make an impact, by being informed consumers and citizens, pass it on to other people.

I am very concerned that the government (which is highly influenced by lobbying from the food industry--the second-largest lobbying group in the US after the pharmaceutical companies) will find the wrong 'solution' to this problem: requiring irraditation of foods or (as they are proposing with almonds) steaming of some raw foods so they will not actually be raw.
