iPod workouts!

Can someone explain the iPod workout concept to a poor, electronically challenged oldster? I don't have an iPod, Zune etc and really don't have a clue how these workouts, well, work out.

Hi Robin! An iPod is a great investment these days. There is such a variety of ways to enjoy them, besides downloading your favorite songs onto! WWW.iTrain.com has great workouts you can download, for example. The downloading is a simple thing to do really! I'm definitely not technically gifted but even I can do it, so you definitely would have no problems! iPods come with pretty simple to follow instructions. For the most part these workouts are verbal instructions with music accompaniments.

Awwww, don't feel electronically challenged! iPods are quite easy to use, and if you bought one right now, I guarantee you'd get the hang of it super fast. :)

An iPod-based workout is basically someone coaching you on how to workout, with musical accompaniment. For example, Cardio Coach workouts involve Coach Sean guiding you through a warmup, various "Challenges", and cooldown. He'll say stuff like "Okay, set your speed at a Level 3 effort" or "Only 10 seconds left - you can do this!" And during the whole workout, there is energetic music to get you pumped and ready to work.

All you do is listen and follow along. It's that easy! :D

It's really pretty simple after you do it once. There are two main types of files: MP3 (audio only) and mpeg4 (video and audio).

Let’s examine mpeg4 files first:

All of our DVD’s will be encoded in mpeg4 and available for download from our digital web site. You will download the file first to your computer. Next, you will transfer the file to your IPOD or Zune. At this point you could watch your Cathe DVD on your IPOD, but it would be kind of hard to follow the routine since an Ipod screen is so small. We don’t really expect people to workout to a Cathe video while watching their Ipod screen. Instead, you will need to purchase a very inexpensive video/audio cable that will plug in from Ipod to your TV. You then just select the Cathe video you want on your Ipod and then workout to Cathe on your TV. It is actually easier to use your Ipod than to use your DVD player. The picture quality will be almost as good as DVD. If you have Apple Tv or Tivo the picture will be as good or better than DVD and best of all – no layer changes.

MP3 Audio Files:

You would do everything as above, except you would not hook up your Ipod to a TV since these are audio only files. Workouts designed for this format will include Gym Workouts, Treadmill Workouts and outdoor activities and sports training videos. One of Cathe’s first releases in this format will be targeted for people who workout in Gyms. Just strap your Ipod onto your arm, plug in your headphones and let Cathe be your personal trainer at your gym.

Don’t Worry:

We realize that a lot of our customers have trouble or are not interested in learning new technology. This is our biggest concern in developing this new format for our customers and a lot of time is being spent to make all of this as simple as possible. We will have several online video tutorials that will take you step by step on everything you need to know and we will have support forums to help answer any questions you have.

Robin, thanks so much for asking this. I had just read the fabulous workout announcement and then started searching for info on how I could use...or would use...an ipod workout.
Then I saw your post.

You read my mind, well, that's not much of a challenge lately :7 ...but anyways, thanks for askin'!

I'm bettin' we ain't the only ones wonderin' this same thing...and thanks for snm for giving a solid answer.

It is my understanding that to use your video ipod w/Apple TV you need a widescreen TV. Apple lists these requirements:

Apple TV works with widescreen, enhanced-definition or high-definition TVs capable of 1080i, 720p, 576p, or 480p resolutions.....

I got my IPOD for Valentine's Day and just sat with the instructions and they were step by step and easy! I just love it! I bought an iTunes card and songs are 99 cents. You can also download your personal Cds on them.

kims, I'm glad I'm not the only one. LOL. And thank you all for the explanation. I guess I'll have to wait and see if these will be something I can use.

You don't really want to use your Ipod with Apple Tv. These are really two seperate systems. With Apple TV you just stream from your Computer.

SNM,

Does this mean that eventually Cathe.com will phase out dvds, and sell everything as a download from the website?

Thank you for all the great information. I'm trying to get my head wrapped around it, but am very excited that I now have a good reason to go buy an Ipod!

Sandra

Eventually nobody will sell DVDs anymore, but when this will happen is only speculation. We just recently were at meeting at one of the nations leading cable companies. Their executives told us that they feel the life expectancy of DVD is anywhere from 2 to 5 more years. That is only their opinion and nobody really knows for sure. It does seem logical that digital download technology will be the replacement to DVDs, but technology changes so fast nowadays it is hard to say for sure what will happen. We will keep making DVDs as long as enough people keep buying them, just like we did with VHS tapes. The new digital download technology is truly amazing. Once we finally reveal to you everything we have been working on I think most people will really start to love and embrace the new technology. But don’t worry; we will still make DVDs for sometime to come.

Oops, my bad. I think that you still need a wide-screen, enhanced definition or high-definition TV to stream the videos on your computer through the Apple TV.

Thanks for asking the question and thanks for the great answer now the light is brighter to me on this subject. Interesting that they think DVD will only be around for another 2 - 5 years.

I'm also rather technologically challenged. I do have an ipod and cardio coach is on it - so I do use it. But I have 6 separate cardio coach workouts on it. I know about the itread, i climbs, iscuplts, etc - but can someone who is more techno-savvy explain how she can do 400 workouts? TIA

Lorrie

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. To view my webpage or make a donation go to:

I am guessing like they do the premixes. She could do 50 different moves and shuffle them around in many, many ways...just a guess.

Okay I don't want to sound stupid but...we keep talking ipod workouts, will they work on any mp3 player. I don't see an ipod in my near future.
