Ipod sync to reimaged computer ~ Techie help needed!

Hi there:

I have an Ipod nano 3g, and unfortunately my computer crashed a few weeks ago and I had to completely start over from "out of the box" contents on my hard drive. I did manage to back up all my photos, docs and other important stuff, however, didn't realize that iTunes was not backed up anywhere, so therefore the only record of my entire iPod library is now on my iPod. I need to know if there is any way to download/sync from my iPod to my iTunes without having to completely download everything again into iTunes...

I have searched a bit on the internet but Google was not helpful. The iTunes help was also equally as discouraging. I tried to follow the instructions but get to a "Consolidate" instruction, but I find that nowhere on my iTunes tools. Even when I click on the iPod from My Computer, there is no data/music file to 'click n' drag' to my hard drive. I do see that there are programs you buy to make it easy to download, but am holding out that there is something that I am missing...

Anyone else have this issue and resolved it without completely re-loading their cd's?

TIA!

hmmm, I have not tried to download from the Ipod. Is there a number you could call and talk to a real person?

YEAH!!! I figured it out...

after about 4 hours of frustration... I still don't know if I could do it again, but it is done and hopefully I won't have any issues going forward!

Dani- Glad you figured it out. Itunes can be really frustrating at times. It would be a real bummer to have to start your library from scratch.

Apple does bury their info deep into their database, but once I figured out which files were being transfered, where the iTunes was looking for them it was pretty easy, but it was the 4-5 hours previously that I was pulling out my hair! :)

thanks for all the help ladies! at least I now know that there are other ways to skin a cat... my time might be worth the $20 for a 3rd party program someday... :)

Cathy or anyone,

When you used Music REscue do you know if you can use it from a PC to a mac? Last year when my pc died I bought a mac and when I plugged the ipod in to the mac it transferred all songs I bought from itunes but nothing else. Then when I went to put new songs from the mac on the ipod it would not let me because the ipod was formatted on a pc. I love apple products but loathe this nonsense with my ipod. It has been over a year and I can't do anything with it.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if or how that would work with Music Rescue, to be honest, but I would imagine there has to be SOME way to do it. I switched from PC to PC. I do know that when I plugged my iPod into the new laptop, only the purchased songs showed up in my iTunes initially.

It might tell you on the Music Rescue site or perhaps someone more savvy can chime in here. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck! I would be frustrated, too.
