Intro - Hello to my fellow Cathe fans!

Hi, my name is Nancy and I am scared to death. I know that by posting this introduction I am committing to a lifestyle change which includes exercise. I recently found Cathe on FitTv and started joining her each afternoon for the workouts.
Honestly, the reason I found Cathe was that my husband said we might go on vacation to a water park. The thought of putting on a swimsuit terrifies me. I have not worn a bathing suit in seven years.
As I mentioned before, I have only been working out with Cathe for about a month. I have some equipment and am trying to buy more as needed. I will be ordering her 4 day split in the next couple of days.
Genetics are not on my side. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and my dad is battling heart desease. My grandparents have passed away from heart disease and complications of diabetes. I have not been able to conceive after assistance from doctors but that’s another story. I just want to be HEALTY and STRONG!!!
I am 27, 5’8”,160 lbs, wear size 8/10 and am pear shaped. I have taken before pictures but won’t post them until I have a during or after picture to post next to them. I drink about a gallon of water a day and I do not smoke and drink very little alcohol.
Any advice on how to kick-start my program would be greatly appreciate. Thank you.

Hi Nancy! Nice to meet you. Don't be afraid. This IS a life-changing experience for you finding cathedotcom but a rewarding one! (And, LOTS OF FUN!) I think finding a rotation that fits your needs and also works with the workouts you have would be a good start. Let me go find the guide to the workouts so you can pick & choose. I'll be back. Again, nice to have you here!!!!

Hi, Nancy
Welcome to the forums!
You're off to a good start: consistency in exercise is one part of the puzzle, make sure to add a sensible diet (as in 'way of eating,' not 'short-term program designed to lose weight fast') focusing on whole, unprocessed foods.

For exercise, it's important to have a balanced program that includes cardio, weights, flexibility, and recovery. You might be particularly interested in cardio/weight combo workouts at this point in your exercise journey,as they are effective ways of getting both forms of exercise in at once (just be sure not to work the same muscle groups with weights two days in a row, which means either doing cardio/upper body followed by cardio/lower body, or doing cardio/weights one day and cardio only the next, or working out every other day.

Here are two good books for healthy eating (which not only help with weight loss, but do it in a healthy way that also reduce risks for heart disease and diabetes):
Caldwell Esselstyn's "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" http://www.amazon.com/Prevent-Rever...6485541?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183987872&sr=8-1

Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live"
http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Live-Revo...6485541?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183988393&sr=1-1

Hi Nancy and welcome! I'm a newbie myself here and with Cathe and I've already gotten tons of great advice here. I look forward to 'seeing' you around!:)

Hi Nancy~

Welcome..You could not have found a better place for great advice and support.

I look forward to seeing you around

Teri

RE: Intro - Many Thanks!

Thank you to all who have welcomed me! I think this is going to be a great support group for me in my new journey. I am looking forward to it!

Here is my first question of many to come: Why am I always hungry? These last couple of weeks it seems like I have to eat every two or three hours. Last night, I ate a turkey sandwich about 7p and worked out about 8p. When I went to bed about 1030p my stomach was rumbling.

I am hungry ALL the time. Is this normal or is it all in my head?

RE: Intro - Many Thanks!

First, welcome to the forum. It's truly an inspiring, and fun, place! As far as being hungry all the time... I think it really comes down to what you're eating. My personal experience has been that when I eat anything with refined sugar -- even hidden sugar like that in breakfast cereals, salad dressings, etc. -- my cravings for more of the same increase. But if I stick with clean eating, and make sure I'm getting enough protein, along with complex carbs, like whole grains, I don't feel the need to eat as much, or as often.

I'm sure lots of other people on the forum can give you sounc advice here. :)

RE: Intro - Many Thanks!

Welcome to Cathe!:) As your body adjusts to your new activity level, your hunger will increase because your activity level as increased. It will all even out though, I promise. In fact after a really hard cardio workout my appetite is lessened for a few hours afterwards. Exercise will actually help control your appetite. At least that is what I found-except during PMS, then anything goes!:7

RE: Intro - Many Thanks!

Welcome!

You will absolutely love this forum and all the wonderful people here!!!

One suggestion to jump start your new program...purchase "The Eat Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno. It is very motivating! Diet plays a HUGE part in reshaping (and keeping) your body in great shape.

Once again, welcome!

Welcome aboard Nancy. You are getting incredible advice. There isn't much more I can tell you. Know that it is hard work and when you except that it is enjoyable. Have lots of fun and enjoy the process of getting healthy.
