I've given up every being allowed into the Yayas forums, have tried and failed to register so many times!
Anyhow, can you describe briefly what intermittent fasting is? Is it maybe fasting one day a week? Or more like doing a 5-day fast every 6 months or something? There's also a new theory, based on a book I think, of eating normally every other day - so for instance, you'd eat 2,000 calories on Monday, then on Tuesday you'd eat 400 calories of a special protein-rich supplement. This supposedly helps dieters because you do lose weight quickly, and every other day you can just eat as you please. It's also supposed to be healthy because every other day your cells get to rest and rejuvenate.
I'm really intrigued by the concept of fasting, it's one of those divisive issues! Many are very opposed to it. There's the BFFM theory that you must rev up your metabolism by eating every few hours and never missing a small meal or you will go into starvation mode and catabolize your muscles. OR there's the holistic health theory, which makes more sense to me, that an occasional day of fasting, or skipping a meal if you're not hungry, is healthy for the body. I know Beachbody says a couple of days of fasting here and there should pose no problems for most people - we all have enough glucose stored in our muscles that our muscles will not be used for energy. I have fasted for a day here and there and always felt like it was a good healthy thing for my body, once I got past the mental preoccupation with food I wasn't hungry and the next day I felt light and healthy and rested.
