I need help making a decision. My powder room has 2 windows side by side, but they don't match. One window has a frosted pane, the other has a pebbled pane. I'm going to take both of them out & bring them to the hardware store to have them match, but I can't decide if I should have 2 pebbled or 2 frosted.

I think the pebbled might be more appropriate for the age of the house (built around 1910). On the other hand, I think it might be too institutional. I don't want my powder room to look like the restroom in a public school. :p

But then I think the frosted is more contemporary?

I think either would look nice, I'm just having trouble making up my mind. I'm posting a poll so you guys can decide for me. :)

I vote pebbled, actually. Frosted is just frosted. Plain, flat, nothing interesting about it. I've always loved the texture and interest of the pebbled surface. I also think if it's an older house, I would keep with feel of the house. As much as I love contemporary, I like those older features of homes. That artisanship is missing from most modern structures. You can keep it from looking like a school by going with a contemporary decor and color scheme - I can totally visualize the pebbled surface with some linens from West Elm or Crate and Barrel. Just stay away from institutional green or blue. Go with something deep and inviting.

OK then, pebble it is! I think NY25 is right about it fitting in with the house. I can tell the pebbled window is the original & the frosted was a replacement (now why did the morons who flipped my house not bother to take BOTH windows with them & get the right thing???????). It's been bugging me for years. I've tried to commit myself to one home improvement project a month, but other than this I'm down to the really big, pricey stuff. I'm glad this is a pretty cheap project. :)

Ditch em both and replace em w/ stained glass! :p;):D (I stink at this too! lol)

Oh man, I would so love to do that! But that would turn a cheap project into a rather expensive one! :D There are a lot of houses around here that have original stained glass windows. Most of them are in hallways. Very cool stuff. I love the old housing stock in my area. :)

I think pebbled is "richer" looking for lack of a better word. Frosted kind of comes across as less than classic for me. I associate it with less upscale construction.

Good luck!

Ohhh I LOVE Gayle's stained glass idea. Is there a local art school by you? Sometimes you can engage young artists on a project like this for very cheap.

I really like the idea too! I think the closest art school to me is in NYC, so that's not really an alternative, but I'll check my local Us & see. That would be so cool!
