I know there are a few of you out there and I am wondering... do you include the classes you lead in your w/o rotation?? I know you are coaching up there ,but must still be getting a workout; so does this count for you?Or do you do cardio/ weight training in addition to get your 3-5 days of cardioand whatever your resistance training goalsmight be. Ihope this question makes sense.I am very interested to hear how others handle this. :-jumpy

Hi, Momincharge! I instruct two high-intensity aqua classes each week, and work out at home 3X per week, and yes, I DO "count" my classes as part of my workout program, because I am in the pool doing everything I'm cueing! Mine is an 80-minute format, with 45 minutes of hi-intensity shallow water aerobics + muscle endurance conditioning, about 5-8 minutes of targeted leg conditioning with flutter kick and vertical suspended long-lever drills, 10 minutes of suspended supine abdominal work, 5-8 minutes of upper-body conditioning, and an 8-minute stretch.

My other 3 workouts are usually Cardio A La Cathe, and then total body leg, abdominal and upper body strengthening with barbells and dumbbells. My strength has shot up since I started devoting more time to my workouts and less time (in terms of # of classes taught each week) to others'.

I teach two hi/lo classes a week with light toning at the end. I count the hi/lo in with my cardio, but not the toning. I then do 3-4 other cardios and either 2 full body strength or a 3 tape split. My classes are not killer Cathe workouts, but since only doing 1-2 killer cardios a week, I've actually seen improvements. Sometimes less is more.

Along with the others, I teach 4 BodyPUMP classes a week which DEFINITELY count as my strength training. I teach one step class a week and depending on the number of new participants, I may or may not count it as cardio for myself.

Yes!

I teach the same program as Andrea and I do count the cardio segment during the week because I am working very hard up front calling the routines and dancing right along with my students. It's a solid 40 minutes of cardio. We are breathing!!! Our toning segment involves using between 2-5 pound weights because the students have to bring their own weights back & forth to class so we can't expect them to lug heavy dumbbells and barbells in every class, so like Andrea, I don't count it as weightwork during my rotation. I come home and do my Cathe tapes for that the same day or the days I am off. Hope this helps!

RE: Yes!

thanks for the input.. and yes it does help. It is just as I suspected. You all listen to your bodies (there is that phrase again!) and if you feel as if you have gotten a good workout it counts. If not, off you go! I am just having trouble juggling the time instructing, learning new material to keep classes interesting, and reaching my own fitness goals. Don't want to overtrain and waste my time!!! It was much easier when I was just working out for myself!

Yes!

I can relate with juggling the extra time it takes when I am choreographing my new routines every 10 weeks. I used to TRY to work on them and then on the SAME day, try to do my Cathe cardios also. (I just hated to not do my fav tapes!!:7) I was burning myself out to the point I didn't even have the proper energy to practice what I was making up for my OWN classes. Soooo, now, I just work on my routines at that 10 week point for a couple of weeks just adding in Cathe cardio on my days I don't practice my own stuff and then I also add weight work 3X/week and I feel great. I have not seen any backslide in results either! That is a GOOD thing! ;-) Your body will tell you when to slow down and not push THAT hard. I still work very hard at all my workouts. I make each & very one count. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing.

RE: Yes!

Just wanted to agree with Debbie. When I am practicing routines for a new session I often don't add ANY extra cardio that week. Like you said, just listen to your bod :)
Andrea

Ooops!

One slight correction~I actually do weight work 4X/week. I do two body parts for three days and then at the end of the week, I do a total body workout. So, I hit each body part 2X/week!
