This morning I was watching Canada AM (our natinal morning show) and they had a segment about using hip and waist measurements instead of BMI to gage a person's risk of heart attack. The BMI doesn't take into account where our fat lies or how much muscle person has. The hip/waist ratio is 3x more accurate. Divide your waist number by hip number and to be in healthy range it should be less than .85 for women and .90 for men. they also said it's better to store fat in the hip area rather than in the waist, it's more of a protective factor. I wonder if that means I'm overprotected.
Anyway, just thought I would share.
