I'm starting a new diet Monday & my head is SPINNING!

The Abs Diet.......six meals a day.......omega 3........whey powder......flax seed.....proteins.....carbs....cals.......unsweetened oatmeal & yogurt (can someone please explain how these are any different than creamed cardboard?).......1000 different smoothie recipes.......OMG!

It's like a total re-education process. I can see how so many completely fail on diets, there's so much to learn! Plus so far I haven't come across anything that really appeals to my taste buds, although I'm sure eventually I'll figure it out. Low carb was so easy to follow, which I guess is why a lot of folks do it, including me.

Someone please give me some tips on how to make this diet palatable & easier. It's so freakin complicated! I assume I can use artificial sweeteners like Splenda so the oatmeal & yogurt might actually taste good? I've seen a lot about Stevia on here, is it worth it? Can I use stuff like cinnamon & brown sugar?

The good news is I'll be eating some carbs again. I cannot wait to have a bagel! :)

This may sound gross but in my yogurt I added Swiss miss no sugar added cocoa (has lots of calcium and gives it a more chocolately taste). You can also freeze the yogurt and make it frozen so its more like ice cream??

Laura,

I've never tried oatmeal and yogurt combo. I usually add chocolate protein to my zero fat Fage yogurt(yummmmy).

I always eat my oats hot but I just recently found this and going to give is a try.

BTW, I LOVE Metabolic Drive Low Carb Chocolate & Strawberry protein. It's a slower digesting protein than whey though.

Hahahaha - let me know how it goes!! I finally decided to hold off on the Abs Diet itself simply because those 12 power foods are pretty much incorporated into my routine as it is! What appealed to me was the handful of recipes I found online - and they came from the men's diet :9 When I have my plain old boring oatmeal in the afternoon, I add a tablespoon of Smuckers sugar free strawberry preserves and it's actually pretty tasty! Good luck!!!!

Hey Laura. I try not to use artificial sweeteners so I use Stevia. Stonyfield farm plain yogurt is soooo good. I put some fruit or some walnuts in mine. After a few weeks, if you eat a regular fruit yogurt, it will taste so sweet you won't be able to stand it. Same with oatmeal. Keep plugging away.

RE: I'm starting a new diet Monday & my head is SPINNIN...

Hey, Laura,
DH and I sort of followed the Abs Diet last summer. We weren't really trying to lose weight -- just clean things up some; we'd slipped into a few bad habits, and it seemed like a good way to return to better habits. I do better with someone else's meal plan than if I have to come up with it on my own, and the Abs Diet seemed fairly logical, easy to follow, and not too weird.:) It's been a while since I've looked at it, but I recall a few things:

-- some of the recipes are really quite good, some are not so good -- there are a lot more options in the Abs Diet for Women book than in the original (the orange one).

-- the recipes are pretty easy since they were written by a man.;-)

-- the recipe for "Salmon Rushdie" is really delicious. We go back to it over and over. We marinate it the way he says, then grill it on a cedar (or other wood) grilling plank. For Mother's Day, we grilled it on a maple plank.:9

Good luck! I'd love to know what you think after you've done it a few days. I may go pull it out myself.

Question: Why the hell are you on a diet Miss Laura? You look fabulous darling!:) But good grief, if this plan allows a bagel every now and then, go for it. Life without carbs, is not a fun one in my humble opinion. I do not indulge alot, but every Sunday, watch out!:)

My typical carbs for a day include rice cakes and whole grain tortilla's,tons of veggies, the more the better! I detest oatmeal and no one can make me eat that nasty, slimy stuff.:p
