I'm sick of Shovel Max...need warm gloves...

My hands get cold handling bags of frozen vegetables or cutting cold food from the refrigerator:( so shoveling snow just about kills them. Today it's 15 degrees and I had on a pair of those silver glove liners plus a pair of arctic gloves on top of the liners and after about 10 minutes, I had to run inside to run my hands under warm water because they hurt so bad.

Can anyone recommend a good pair of warm gloves/mittens that keep your hands toasty when you're outside? Other than moving to Arizona:D, I'm at a loss as to what to do to keep my hands warm when I shovel snow or am outside for any length of time in the winter. I've tried several kinds of gloves but none seem to work.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!

I live on the Canadian prairies, directly north of North Dakota. It gets very cold here, -40s last week. I swear by my sheepskin gloves, they're amazing!

You could also look into the battery operated gloves. They are usually found at the hunting/sporting stores.

cab0899 - Thanks for the sheepskin recommendation! I just ordered some sheepskin mittens from Amazon that look toasty warm. Once I get them, I'm sure my hands will thank you as well!! Minus 40 degrees? Yikes. I guess I'll appreciate the 15 degrees here in Ohio.:)

I usually have a box of 'hot hands' handwarmers in the house. Open a package and give the warmers a little shake, put in your gloves and they stays toasty warm for up to 6 hours!

Great idea! I'll definitely get some of these. With these warmers plus the gloves I just ordered, hopefully I'll be able to shovel without breaking into tears because my hands hurt so bad....

Thanks so much.:)

Mittens are warmer than gloves, in general, because each finger isn't isolated and more exposed to the cold. And for something like snow shoveling, you don't need the dexterity that gloves afford. I'd recommend getting a glove liner and a pair of warm mittens (those "hot hands" sound good as well).

Hand warmers are definitely a good thing to have. I started shoveling the end of my driveway the other morning, but since my running mitten/gloves aren't made for that - I stopped after about 10 minutes. Thankfully, my plow guy showed up about an hour later.

I received my new sheepskin mittens from Amazon the other day just in time for this latest blast of snow.:( Well, I just got done shoveling and for the first time EVER, my hands did not hurt! Just wanted to give a shout-out to cab0899 with a very warm:) thank you for your recommendation!!

Thanks to the rest of you for your recommendations as well. I still need to go buy some "hot hands" hand warmers, but luckily today with my new sheepskin mittens, I didn't even need them!

You guys are the greatest! I know I can always come here and get great advice on anything. For those of you in the path of the latest snow and ice, stay warm and safe!!

Great advice!! My fingers and toes end up hurting really bad as well and that's with a snowthrower!

Crazy, crazy weather... the Weather Channel just said 30 states are being hit by this storm. My personal favorite weather website is NOAA.gov

Everybody stay warm and don't go outside if you don't have to!
