I'm ready for a fight!

:)

Just a vent on my part.....nerves, really. My PTA meeting is in exactly one hour and I'm ready and prepared for an onslaught of moms, ready for a fight. It's a long story, but to keep it short......these parents would rather their child leave this elementary school at the end of the school year with a T-shirt than to go on one extra field trip this year. There's more to it, but that's the basis of it all.

They're staging a protest of sorts tonight.

But I'm ready. I'm prepared.

I just needed to vent some of my nervous energy here, and you guys are always so accomodating! LOL

Oh Jeez, not another flippin t-shirt! We have a t-shirt cupboard in my 12 year old's room and I can't get another one in it. They are pointless, a waste of money, never get worn, feature awful messages and graphics that mean it doesn't go with anything very much. There isn't a kid in the US who doesn't have enough t-shirts already (you know what I mean), but there are plenty of kids who lack education and cultural enrichment, not to mention parents with common sense who value education over apparel.

I feel sorry for you Gayle, I really do. I've just joined the PTSO of my high schooler's school, as secretary. I wonder what awaits me?!?!?!?

Stay strong. Hang tough. Defend your position for your kid's sake and for their kids' sakes. You have my support.

Don't have enough info on your situation but I remember when the school was always asking for more money for this and that and it just got to be too much. Got so it seemed the school was more interested in making your kid sell stuff to get money or doing things that had no educational value.

Had my son not turn in his band fund raiser form with any purchases and the band director had all the kids in the auditorium to pass out the cheap awards they got for selling stuff and made my son stand up and then tell him he COULD have gotton an award if he would have sold something. That was mean beyond words. Had to write the principal and complain. Pulled my son out of band. Unbelievable.

Parker, that is just terrible. I thought teachers were suppose to act grown-up. That was ridiculous to ridicule your son in front of everyone. The teacher is the one who should have had to leave band, not your son.

Gayle, stand strong. Put on your Cathe gloves and come out swinging. You go girl!

Hee hee! I feel 110% better. Of course, there were folks the tonight who came specifically for this item on the agenda....SURPRISE! It wasn't ON the agenda! LOL So I went thru the agenda and just as I was about to adjourn the official PTA meeting and hand it over to our Superintendent (as our guest speaker), they quickly asked if I was going to bring up the shirts. I said, "no, but if you'd like to bring it up you can". OK....stumped them there!

Then.....when I explained to the membership what the circumstances were (I won't bore you), we got to the possibility of the parents paying for the shirts instead of the PTA hoofing the bill. She asked what would the PTA do in the situation of a family who might not be able to afford the shirt. I turned the tables and said, "good question....do you have a solution for that?". lol Stumped her again.

Don't come to me with a problem if you don't have any possible solutions!

Long story short.....it's on the agenda for next month, when I suggested they come to that meeting "with educational and un-emotional thoughts".

HA! I feel much better. Until next month, at least! LOL

Thanks for indulging me!

PARENTS!

Gayle, you are SOOO good! If I ever grow up I want to be like you. I have no backbone when it comes to things like that. Job well done - you need to be proud of yourself.:D

Great job Gayle!!!

I have a similar thing going on because I am Head room mom for my son's class. EVERYBODY who has a complaint never DOES anything. They just expect me to HANDLE it!!! They are in for a big surprise!!:eek:

Hee hee! I did LOVE the look on her face when I asked HER for the solution. Here's the kicker.....the 3 ladies putting up the biggest stink over this were Officers for the last 2 years...so they KNOW.

ANYWAY...thanks for the pats on the back. I am confident that I approached the situation correctly (although everybody DOES second-guess themselves) and I'm willing to accept whatever is voted on next month. It's not personal to me, but it sure is to THEM!

THANKS again!

Gayle
