Hi All,

I wonder if your Friday evening is as exciting as mine is right now. I hope not! :(

Apparently, the pressure valve for our main water line has been seeping and then full blown leaking for a month or so. So half of my basement is being gutted by the insurance company cleaning crew. They're tearing up tile and the hardwood in my basement and the place looks like a train ran through it. I just feel like screaming and then eating a brick of chocolate the size of my head.....

The worst of it is, we don't even know how much if anything that the insurance company is going to give us to replace the damages. The adjuster was here today and my hubby walked him through and told him what happened and he dropped comments that were hard to interpret....Plus we have a $500 deductible. So if they give us about $1500, that won't even buy flooring....I have no idea how it works either...do they replace the floor with what you had down to begin with? Or do they give you funds to replace with cheap sticky tiles?

To add insult to injury, there's apparently a couple spots where one of my cats (Baby, the one that had to be put down earlier this Spring due to cancer) whizzed on the hard wood and when they pulled it up the basement is reeking of cat urine now. AND, my husband doesn't want me to tear up the portion of the hard wood that remains. For some reason, he feels we should leave it alone until the adjuster or insurance company gets in touch with us. This floor is hard wood laminate flooring that interlocks. It's 5-6 years old. There's no WAY I'm going to try to repair what's left. It's not happening. He's fussing with me over the matter. He's going to work tomorrow and I told him - "keep talking, but when you get home, that floor is going to be GONE" so now he's cranky.

:(

What a bummer. When I hear stories like this I don't feel to bad that I don't own and that I still rent a home. Take it a day at a time. Don't worry this to shall pass at least you'll get a new floor. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Hang in there.

i am sorry to hear that your friday night is not going that well. i hope the insurance company will do the right thing (which we know how that usually goes) and give you what you need to replace the floor. find something that makes you smile like a great CD or dvd or pictures or whatever it may be, and put your thoughts there for the evening. it doesn't make the problems go away, but maybe could give you a break from it for a little while....maybe....good luck with your insurance company and your DH...
