Eeks, I'm right under a huge swath of orange on our radar...for you non-weather buffs, that freezing rain/sleet:confused:

Schools are closed - my younger DS is sad because today was supposed to be all the Christmas parties, gift exchange, etc. Now they'll have to do it on Jan. 5th which will be just weird.

It's wicked bad out. Dogs slid their way off deck for am potties. I'm literally dreading my drive/skate to work which will probably be an open appointment book d/t cancellations...

Off to coffee #2 and more worrying,
Heidi

I feel for you Heidi. I'm in an area where nothing has happened yet and I don't see it getting too bad but I've lived through some NASTY ice storms before. They are NOT fun and 100% more dangerous then even multiple feet of snow! If it's that bad perhaps you should consider not going into work. Is that a possibility for you? It's not worth risking your life IMO.

We are about 10 miles south of the worse of it so I think school is in, which is good since it is the second day of finals and the kids do not want to take those after break. Still my trees are bowed to the ground coated with the stuff and the roads look like an ice rink. By sunrise it is suppose to be above freezing, which will be good.

Snow Day

We are getting hammered here in mid-Michigan! The school called at 5:30 am to say it was cancelled. My sister drove to Flint to catch a flight to Detroit and then on to Richmond for the Holidays! I have yet to hear from her ~ I hope she gets out so she can see her family. My DH took the TrailBlazer to work (about 20 mi from here) so my son, my nephew, the dog and I are hunkered down for the day. The grocery store was packed last night at 5pm.

That is a bummer about the school parties - that happened once to my son.

If you have to go I wish you safe travels girls!!!

Will be checking back ~

ps - Heidi, I had a visual of the dogs on the morning outing - LOL!

There are lots of people in the Northeast who were without power for days and some in NH who won't be getting their power restored until after Christmas.

We just got our power back after being without for 6 days. Now we will be getting 12+ inches of snow. I would rather have the fluffy white stuff than the ice. The first few days without power was like camping but by day 4 we had had enough! There are towns around us who will only get thier power back around the 1st of Jan.!!! I feel for them.

Ugh, we got hit in Akron, OH too. Unfortunately we have to drive 2 hours to Columbus tonight, hopefully the roads will be okay by then! Everyone be careful!!

I'm in Michigan, too, and all the schools are closed here. DH didn't even bother getting up at the regular time today. Don't think he'll be going in at all. It's supposed to slow down by noon, and then we'll start cleaning out the drive. No sense doing it more than once! So far we're north of the freezing rain, which is just fine with me, I too would rather have a ton of snow than ice. My parents are an hour to the SW and they have ice on their windows.

Well, the nasty stuff has stopped, and I must admit that it left a beautiful glaze on all surfaces. Kids are at the YMCA playing with friends. Our electricity is out - wonderful....so I booked a hotel for tonight before the mad rush. Can't go without heat and such.

Merry Christmas to us...$200 hotel stay...oh well, it has a pool, so we'll just try to make the best of it. I'm sure the kids will love swimming...i know I'm not getting anywhere near a bathing suit, but I'll gladly watch and read a magazine:p

Enjoy warm heat, television, toilets that flush, and watching your kids have fun at the pool. :D

Hope all of you get some relief and ELECTRICITY .. guess you are getting MORE than a "white Christmas" ...

Down here in AL we are HOT and HUMID (78 degres) .. so NOT what we usually are this time of year ... STRANGE weather for everyone .. cold front is supposed to come thru Sunday .. hoping at least for a cool Christmas .. but certainly don't want anything like ALL of your north of us .. bless your hearts ..

sending warm - fuzzie - fully electrically serviced vibes your way!:)

Nicole, how far away do you live from Barberton? That's where I live. It sounds like we're very close neighbors.

Elaine - I only lost power for one day thankfully, but know some still without power. Snow is coming down hard and heavy here!

As of right now I'd say we have about 6 inches and still coming down hard. I had to shovel a path for our puppy to go out.:D

We are still without power in Findlay, OH. They've restored it to some, but it's still a work in progress. So, we decided to stay at a hotel - the Drury Inn- which actually is very nice. Enjoying the warmth. DH just went home to assess things. I have SO much to do this weekend so hopefully we can get home today.:(
