I think I strained my neck

Cathe or anyone - When I was doing S&H Chest this morning I tried to go heavier than last week - I think I strained my neck and I am wondering about my form. I felt more of a pull in my shoulders and neck area - I watched and my dumbells were over the chest area and not the shoulder area. My shoulders were retracted - I take that to mean to push them back and down a bit on the bench - or maybe I just tried too heavy for me. Could someone explain the retraction in the shoulders a little more for me?

Also the heavy dumbells really hurt the palm of my left hand near my thumb - do you know any specific brand of gloves that help with this?

Perhaps you should go back to yur previous weight for the next S&H chest workout.
