Marcia and everyone...
Thanks so much for all the congrats. I am really excited about this new designation. I am currently a certified trainer and a certified women's fitness specialist through the IFPA. I had been looking into life/fitness coaching types of programs, but most of them seemed like a "buy a certification" deal. So after quite a bit of searching I found the Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant certification throught ACE

ACE requires that you hold a PT certification through a NCCA accredited organization. I studied like a maniac for about 6 weeks, (more than 100 hours) including brushing up on the PT stuff that I had totally forgotten about (like Newton's Laws).
I have been a PT for about 8 years. I taught fitness at a private middle school for 4 years and really only trained clients part-time. Honestly, working at a gym doesn't appeal to me (felt too much like cookie cutter training). I really wanted to make a difference, not just count reps and get water (believe it or not someone once told be that was all a personal trainer was good for! - not someone I trained :7 )
I have been talking with my primary care doctor and she is ready to start referring her patients to me. So, within the next month or so I am planning on starting a private practice. I will work from home, I have a pretty cool gym, knocked down the wall between two bedrooms so it is really spacious. I also want to teach people how to be effective home-exercisers (like all of us
)
Any how, thanks again for your well wishes. If any one wants to e-mail me I would be very happy to discuss more in detail.
Have a great evening,
Debbie Russo
