I like Stott Pilates

After trying a lot of different Pilates workouts I have to say that Stott is where it's at. The Ana Caban's were my first ones and then the Breakthrough video and some Crunch ones and they were all just BLAH. Some reviews of Stott said that Moira Stott was very dry and clinical. I argue that if you were to compare how she teaches with Caban that you can spot right away how clinical can be a good thing. The flow of the workout plus how she balances it with working your back and abs and breathing makes absolute sense. The speed of the level 4 workouts are good too. I bought a Winsor Pilates one and although it was decent, it wasn't as rounded. Working out to Stott also gives you quick noticeable core strength that is much appreciated now that I'm trying to run.

I have her Intermediate Matwork tape I got in a trade. Although I like it, it's too long as I use Pilates as add-ons to strength or cardio workouts. Has she made any DVD's that can be broken up into 15 or 20 minute segments?

I really like Stott's workouts too but her delivery is dry. She co-teaches the stability ball workouts w/ an instructor named PJ who teaches w/ Stott's clarity but with a soothing voice.

I'm not familiar w/ Stott's beginner workouts but one could shorten the intermediate level workouts by stopping when you get to the side series (leg work). I wouldn't skip the warm-up because it gets you physically & mentally prepared for an intense session. All of my Stott workouts are on video, the DVD format would make it much easier to customize (& trim the time).

I've been using a.m/p.m Pilates when I want a 20 minute workout.

Stott Stability Ball videos

I have Core Balance I & II. I is matwork exercises done on the ball. Some are easier, while others are more challenging compared to working on the floor. II uses the ball for reformer type exercises. While I is a bit light on leg work, II does a lot of tough hamstring work & plank work. I like it more than the core work in PUB because you work up to the more challenging movements. Both are in the 40-45 minute time frame.

I like both workouts a lot. The set is warmer compared to my other Stott videos, looks like a real Pilates studio. Stott's obviously worked on her video presentation skills & PJ is a terrific addition. One instructs & the other demonstrates which keeps things moving. They switch roles during the workout.

Lately I've been using the Intermediate matwork routine as my ab work as well. I finally just wrote down the order of the exercises and do them without the tape - I can get most of it done in 15 minutes or less if I just flow from exercise to exercise. I usually leave out the leg exercises, the teaser and a couple of others. (I haven't done Pilates in a couple of years and my core strength isn't adeqate to do the teaser safely yet.) Moira is so good at form pointers, though, that I like to do the tape every once in a while to catch any bad habits I'm getting into.
