Hi Everyone,
I actually need some encouragement I for the past two years have been addicted to my workouts but lately it seems like I am in a bit of a slump.
I remember when I looked foward to working up a sweat and now I struggle with it.
Has this happened to anyone Please tell me it's just a season and that I will get my love for it back again.
I still workout but it's like pulling teeth.I miss the old me the athletic me somebody Please hear my cry and help me out
Thank you,
In advance
Marisol

when was the last time you took a break? Are you just burned out? It's a huge mistake not to take breaks, or do some light weeks.

Do you just need a change? Do you do the same stuff over and over? Maybe you need some new tapes, or a new class at your local Y. Do you have anyone who could act as an exercise buddy? Someone who you could walk with?

There's got to be a reason for this slump. Got any ideas?

I went through the same thing in March. Cathe told me to take a week's break. I lasted 4 days!! I went crazy not working out. But you know what? I also proved that I still loved to workout, that I really was just burnt out. I agree with HB, take a break, and when you do come back to it, try doing something a little different. It may help. Ok, just my .02 cents, but honestly, it did help me:)!

Good Luck!

Sounds like a week at the beach would be good for you. Okay, maybe that's not possible at this time. But seriously, have you had a vacation from life in general (career, workouts, etc) in the last 12 months? When this happens to me, it usually means that I need a break from everything for a full week. Then I feel better. Hope you feel better soon!

Another idea in addition to taking an exercise break would be to just do the workouts that are the most fun for you - don't worry about a rotation. Do the workouts that make you happy without worrying about the intensity. Or take up a new activity - walking, running, skating, jumproping, etc. I find that I get bored with my cardio videos frequently, but running outdoors keeps me very motivated. Or I like to use my stepper or spinning bike while watching tv or reading a magazine.
Good luck!!

Not lost, just TIRED :)

Depending on how hard you've been pushing yourself, everyone here is right. It may be time for a break. Or it may be time for a change. Maybe it's time to try some other activity for a while, like yoga, roller blading, biking, anything that interests you.

We all go through periods where we aren't as thrilled by our workouts. The situation is temporary as long as we realize that our bodies are trying to tell us something and we respect that. Trying to just push through without dealing with the underlying cause will only make it worse. So take some time to figure out what you need, and take it. You deserve it! :)

Hi Mari:

I ran into this as well. I found that there were a few things going on with me.

First, I really needed a vacation. So I took a week, it had been a 15 months . . . so I think I was due. By day 5, I was bouncing off the walls. But I still didn't want to work out. So, I picked my most favorite videos. It helped some, but not enough.

Second, I found that I was bored with my exercise routine. So, I went out and rewarded myself with a barbell and introduced some other types of workouts into my routine. It worked . . . that got me out of my funk.

Just a thought.

Keta. :D

Hang in There!

I agree~it's probably just burn out. Take some time off. You teach classes too don't you? I was starting to get the same feeling a few weeks back, but once I started adding in a few different tapes and added spinning to my program, I was fine. I was also going thru a period where I was not sleeping well and I think I was just plain tired :-tired!! I think you just need 5 NEW CATHE TAPES! ;-) Try to take at least a week off and see how you feel. Thinking of you.

One more idea

I think I remember that you have a son, right? Maybe do an activity with him - soccer, kickball, basketball, baseball, walking, cycling, etc. You'll both get some exercise while spending special time together!

Come to think about it I have not ben sleeping properly so that might be it.
Again Thank You

Perhaps?

i dont know about anyone else...but a good look in a well lit 3 way dressing room mirror does miracles for my motivation!!

RE: Perhaps?

Oh yeah!! That is the acid test!!! Those mirrors don't lie!

I don't think my heart can take a look in the mirror
I feel bad as is these days I think I will hold off on that mirror thing at least until i can handle it

I know exactly the feeling you're talking about, happens to me every 6-12 months if I'm working out really regularly. It's like I go from being totally tomboy workout queen to just having no interest and not being able to get psyched up for even my fave workouts. It could be mental or physical burnout and I'll tell you what, when I take a break altogether for a little bit (maybe a week or so) I find myself missing my workouts and it's fun to get back to it. But everyone on here already gave you great advice and ideas. It could be lack of sleep just making you too fatigued, it could be just boredom (even with your favorite tapes) or just that your body needs a little break. It could even be nutritional, that you're not getting enough of certain vitamins and minerals or your body isn't using them as efficiently. Don't overthink it and don't worry because I think everyone has these phases, based on what my friends tell me and my own experiences. And just know that taking a week off won't make you backslide at all. You may actually get even better results when you go back after a little break. I always do.

Have you considered trying something totally new and different to shake things up, too?

Hi everyone,

Again Thank You,
