I have a confession to make...

Cathlete
While chatting with a neighbor about home workouts, I introduced her to Cathe. Is she too advanced? she asked. Because she had just gotten a workout system that was too much for her. Maybe she should've gotten Slim-in-6? I said I've heard of Slim-in-6 but never tried it. What was this workout system she got? Turned out to be P90X.

Oh goodness, did all the blood run up to my ears. Whoa! I've heard a LOT about it, I told her. After chatting and comparing notes, we decided to trade. Some of my Cathe strength DVD's for her P90X.

So far I've done Chest and Back, Shoulders and Arms, Ab Ripper and Stretch. Holy crap! Now I know what everyone's been talking about. I don't have a way to do pull-ups so I used a 45-lb. BB for rows. I just ordered bands from a wholesale fitness site, different resistance/colors, and cheaper than I would get at beachbody. I never realized there are hundreds of ways to do push-ups. Love, love those killer dive bombers!

For Shoulders and Arms I used lower weights than usual and had a goal for only 12 per exercise. To my surprise I was able to bang out 16-20 reps. So next time, I'll use my usual weights an see how it goes. I do have a problem with those crouching cohen curls. I used a pair of 10's, which is light for me, but I felt those weights in my lower back, due to the way my body has to be positioned. So if you know of any modifications, please share. I have a small curve in my lower back so I have to be careful.

I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the series. I'm not following any rotation yet since I want to try out everything first. This series is on a loaner until I get my own, so I'm ordering one right now. I know I said I still choose Cathe over anything but this is what I need NOW. New moves, new ways to work my body. I just hope I won't have the ordering problems some of you have experienced.

Pinky!!!! Welcome to the world of P90X! Isn't it awesome. I a really glad you tried it. Give Core Synergistics a whirl...:D one of my favorites and I just finished the Doubles rotation. I really like Shoulders and Arms too....Legs and Back is another killer as hardly any weight used for the legs?? But the glute pain...:7 . I have heard others having to modify the cohen curls. Possibly sit in a chair and do concentrated curls, one arm at a time. I completely enjoyed the rotation I did and I did add another Cathe leg workout and sometimes her upper body too. Was not a huge fan of KenpoX but alot of us substitute with another kickbox (KPC :) ).

I am going to do my own version of a S&H with PS rotation for the next 2 weeks and then do a Lean (probably more like Lean doubles) rotation next....great series and I know you will love it...:)...Carole

You girls have to quit talking about new workouts. This is how it all gets started. First I read a post on something I don't have and then I ponder it for a while- eventually getting it. I'll be fit but broke when I go to the great beyond!!!!

She (or he) who dies with the most workout tapes/DVD's wins, right???? LOL!!

Thanks, Carole. I had this idea of letting my butt rest on something solid and low, like a short stool, to keep it from hanging in space. I think it's that lack of support that makes me feel those cohen curls in my back. So maybe do it on my high step? The way my elbows have to be on the inner part of my shins make me feel those curls on the inner part of my biceps, more so than concentration curls. (Or have I been doing concentration curls wrong for the last year? ) I don't know if doing it this way would take the effectiveness out of the exercise.

Yes ladies, I am SO broke.}( But as my hubby's cousin told me last night, after finding out I'm 35, I "look good" for my age which "doesn't show at all". And all this time I've been trying (in vain, I know) to massage away these lines between my brows, courtesy of my 4-year-old boy. I swear, I could skip the cardio with this boy around and still burn fat.:)

On a side note, I found myself flinching when Mr. Horton flexed for the audience in Shoulders and Arms. Aside from that, he doesn't bother me. I like that every member of his crew is doing something slightly different. Gives me lots of ideas for variations.

I did watch Core Synergistics and tried those banana rolls while I was at it. Holy crap! It hurt so good. And I think it'd be really great for my lower back. I don't think I can do so many though. Still have to work on balance...

Pinky, I think your way of modifying would be great. I don't think it would take away any effectiveness...:)...and as for Mr Horton...he never seemed to bother me like he has some others. I like his "Arnold" imitation in one of the workouts, he is just kind of silly. But the crew is good and they always modify or do something different which I like.

I also agree with Carol is Fit....:She (or he) who dies with the most workout tapes/DVD's wins, right???? LOL!!

Hi Pinky! Welcome aboard! I'm into my 12th week (yes only 1 more week & I actually finished P90X!). I've gone up in weights as well as reps in EVERYTHING! You should see the beautiful definition to my arms & back. Your abs are going to be very strong too; you'll be surprised when you go back to doing Cathe's V Pikes on the stability ball just how easy it is. Also I did Step Blast & to my surprise its now Intermediate level after doing Plyometrics X 1x a week. Follow the Classic rotation your gonna LOVE it not to mention you'll be in top condition for Cathe's Hard Core series. Kathy:D

Hi Pinky!!

I am so glad you liked P90X !! Your reaction was exactly like mine when I did it!! I have two weeks left and have been very impressed with the results obtained.

While I still prefer Cathe's workouts, it has been a fun change to work the old bod in a completely different way.. I have seen some very nice changes in my arms and back.

Please keep us posted as your progress. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts through the rotation!

PS. Tony H. bugged me at the beginning of the series, but now he's kind of grown on me. Now, I even think he is kind of hot.. and... he's 46!! ;)

Take care, Lynn M.

I agree that these workouts are great and they work the body differently than Cathe. I love the legs and back workout- the legs workout with little or no weight is excellent.
Pinky, I agree, who knew that there were so many different type of pushups.
It really does push you to new limits.
But after doing 5 wks of the classic rotation, I have decided I need a break and want to do some weeks of Cathe workouts. I will probably go back to them a month at a time.
I also love core synergists.
Tony does not bug me either, he is in good shape and seems very knowledgeable.
